X570 Tomahawk: The new default choice for Ryzen

"Yes, the 10900K is the fastest gaming chip in the world but it’s also one that very few can afford" = Agreed

And yes the 10900k can do over "5GHz" I have a good mind of putting together a X570 rig for the pure fun of it perphaps a 3900x could work just fine

I thought you were a massive Intel fanboi?

And you can get one now, then still upgrade to the new Ryzen 4000 CPUs when they launch in Q3/4 this year.
Do we have confirmation that Ryzen 4000 will run on the AM4 socket? I was under this woukd not be the case? If so, all of you mention B450 boards and compatibility as if X470 will be supported, is that the case?

Not were the word is hence the "fun statement" I will be purchasing a 10900k and Gigabyte Z490 series combo do not be fooled oh and I NEED a new screen too :).

Ryzen 4000 is AM4, but AMD don't want to support B450, X470 and prior boards cause of a BIOS size limitation which I think is stupid - just make boards with a bigger BIOS or allow existing boards that have it like MSI's Max series to support it.

You’ll need this

These have my attention currently probaly buy both ;) .

I like the Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Xtreme, but it's expensive at $757. It has 10gb LAN, an external DAC, Wifi 6, Dual BIOS.

I'm not sure about the VRM layout but if it has a 16 stage layout with 90 amp VRMs and it allows you to overclock like mad, it may just be a great board.

Still hoping 4000 series support might be added to x470 / b450 lineup...

Me too, I love my board and would rather just change the cpu

It's a pain but I get why AMD did it.

Intel give you 2 generations per motherboard, AMD has given us 3. That's not bad value considering.

What's pissing me off is that my laptop is looking like it'll die soon, so I'll need to build myself a PC (gaming laptops are garbage) and I desperately want the X570 Tomahawk but I may need to pull the trigger on a board sooner rather than later.

I hear you. I'm happy i can at least upgrade from my 3600 to a 3800x/3900x etc.

If i was you I'd look at the X570's now sooner rather than later because once new stock arrives the prices are going to skyrocket due to the R/$

The AMD 3100 is listed as £100 on Amazon UK
The 3300X is listed as £115.

That’s R2271 and R2611 respectively.

The 3100 doesn’t seem like good value compared to the 3300.

The AMD 3600 trades at £155 (R3520).

@JollyJamma Wanted to eat my hat out of suprise, when I saw the 3300x trade blows with the 3600 in terms of gaming fps!
Well that's not too surprising considering the increase in clock speed and minor improvements in the fabrication process of the 3300.

The AMD 3600 is a better work/gaming balanced CPU and would happily work for people who code/video edit and then have a quick game after work. The 3300 is a better gaming orientated CPU - It's just behind the 3600 in many games (even in the 1% lows).

There are two ways to go about this for my upgrade:
  1. Get the X570 Tomahawk at £200 and the 3300 at £115, with a view to get a Ryzen 4000 CPU later on
  2. Get a B550 board instead and get the 3600 CPU as that'll be a shifting of the funds towards a cheaper motherboard and better CPU
The £200 Tomahawk and AMD 3600 is a compelling upgrade but I'd rather not break the budget just yet.

If B550 has all you need, then, well, the 3600 basically matches the 8700... so, at that point, I think your GPU becomes more important.

I would actually argue that you should spend on B550, 3300x, and then the rest into a better GPU or screen. (Or Headset and Decent DAC/AMP).

I've ordered a 3300X and Corsair TX650M.
I would rather get a better GPU than have 6 cores. I also want to overclock the shit out of the 3300X so I'll need an AIO.

Think you chose right.]

Yeah and I’m happy with my choice.

I looked at the Intel offerings and you have to spend much more to get a quad core with hyper threading.

If anyone is looking at Intel, watch this video:

The key point is don’t buy a motherboard before you buy a CPU due to the Intel fab process shortage.

Edit: I’ve removed recommending Trident Z Neo RAM from the build - it’s too expensive and Crucial will do as good a job for a lower price

intel's powerful 10th Gen Core i9-10900K is now available for preorder through B&H. The flagship 14nm processor has a maximum boost clock speed of 5.3GHz and default base clock speed of 3.7GHz at 125W. Intel states that the MSRP of the Core i-9-10900K is $488, but the B&H listing has the price at $600 (via Tom's Hardware).

Intel announced the i9-10900K alongside the i7-10700K and the i5-10600K. Thanks to Thermal Velocity Boost it can reach up to 5.3GHz. It has a base frequency of 3.7GHz and goes up to 4.8GHz in boost. Intel states that the i9-10900K offers double-digit gains over the 9900K and refers to the new processors as the "world's fastest gaming processor.

As below how :)

You guys check the good news, AMD gonna give a bit more life to X470 and B450. Hardware Unboxed reported it earlier.

Yeah, I saw that.

It’s clever because they will release an optional BIOS that removes support from all of the old CPUs.

Yeah, I don't mind that too much because i already have a 3600. I'm very interested to see the performance of the 4000 series.

I'm sort of glad they did this.

I want to do a upgrade end of the year from i7 3770 and B75 to R5 3600 + B550 board or B450 board. But might be able to pickup a good 4000 series cpu at that time. Will see what happens.
