Same here, upgraded my laptop from 8.1 without problems and did a fresh install on another PC from the ISO.

I was actually impressed with how hassle free it was. Had to wait a few hours for activation though, but I figured the servers are probably being hammered delaying the activation.

To do a fresh install, do I need to upgrade with the ISO first so it changes my key guys? Haven't had time to research it, been moving all week

so I've read the 'something happened' error can be fixed by changing language to english US. so I'm busy downloading th elanguage pack, will update yal later.

This is an interesting question because after upgrading and activation mine still seems to be using the 8.1 Pro key... Which means you might be able to do a fresh install of 10 and activate it by using a 8.1 key (or 8.0 and 7 as well).

I wanted to test it but ran out of time this morning before work...

create microsoft account if you dont have one yet
do fresh instal
login with microsoft account
it then activates automatically

thats what ive done on my pc

dont know wtf up with my laptop though

Yeah see I would prefer not creating the microsoft account...

Spoke to a guy here at work who was an insider for Win10 and he said the chances are good that you should be able to use a 7, 8.0 or 8.1 key on a fresh install of 10 and activate it. Anyone want to try this? lol

think they going the android and apple route, where everything is linked to your login account.
how ever you can use anyemail addy to create an account
i used my gmail account to create a microsoft acount

SWEET TITS!

After changing every language options to US in language AND rgions settings, and after multiple attempts, the upgrade started! sitting on 1%. now to wait.
So this works for the installation tool software, the windows update still did not want to work.

anyone know if you can use the iso image to upgrade so in other words same process applies as now it is just not using Windows Update?

I have installed ALL updates and checked for new updates a million times, yet the infamous upgrade icon still evades my taskbar

You should be able to, just mount or burn the ISO and run the setup.exe from your current Windows

That's the other thing I still wanted to test, so let me know if it works

If you have 3rd party Antivirus, uninstall it, reboot and activate MS Defender and let it update<this worked for me...

My icon disappeared yesterday and never came back. But I have managed to get it to start installing.

Upgraded from 8.1pro retail without a hitch. The reserve install downloaded last night and installed this morning. Left it running during the day for updates.

Busy installing it from ISO 35% in so will let you know once done - mounted it in Win 7 with Clone Drive

It was never there. I am trying to update Defender now, hopefully it appears. It is l*gal

You can get your Windows 10 License Key after upgrade with a CMD command.
This key can then be used for your clean installation if you want.

I have NO anti-virus, Windows Defender is up to date and activated, Windows Update tells me Windows is up-to-date, I have rebooted a few times. Still nada!
