Got the update some hours ago in the AM.
Have been using Windows 10 Preview build since 10049, mainly on the gaming machine.
There were some issues back the, but with each iteration the refinements and stability increased. Along with performance, particularly where the NVIDIA drivers were concerned.

At present, Windows 10 Build 10166 is faster than Windows 8.1 x64 (updated) ever so slightly.
I will be testing the this retail build against a fresh Windows 8.1 x64 (updated) to see how it stacks up. My money is on windows 10 right now, but we will have to see.

Microsoft has now finalized Windows 10, ready for its release later this month. Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans tell The Verge that the software giant has selected build 10240 as the final release to manufacturing (RTM) copy, allowing PC makers to start loading the software onto new machines ready for release. We understand that Microsoft is signing off on the build internally today, and may announce the RTM publicly by the end of the week or choose to ignore the milestone and focus on the launch. While Microsoft is planning to launch Windows 10 on July 29th, new PCs with the software won’t be available until some weeks later. Microsoft is now pushing for existing and new device owners to upgrade to Windows 10 as part of a new marketing campaign.

Microsoft will first roll out build 10240 to its Windows 10 testers, and the company is now focused on patches and fixes that will also roll out alongside the OS launch. While the RTM process is a milestone for Microsoft, especially almost 20 years to the day the company finalized Windows 95, it’s really just one step in a new model that will see Windows act more like a service. In the future Microsoft will be updating Windows 10 regularly, especially the built-in apps that power most experiences in the operating system. Microsoft will test these future updates with its Insider program first, before rolling them out more broadly over the coming months.

Nice. It looks like it'll be a decent OS. The fact that it's as fast as 8.1 at time of release plus stable bodes well for the final patched version.
Unlike Vista which took tons of patches to get it to be fast and stable.

and even then vista was still slow and unstable and sucked XD

After it was patched to hell and back again it was a good gaming OS and had higher FPS compared to 7 but it was far from a good honest OS.
Win 7 will dominate for years to come thanks to business. I can't wait for 10. I just need to take my laptop to work so that I can get it downloaded.

I really liked win7, I just had so much crap with vista, in7 also had its problems tho. like most OSes
Oh yes cant wait for 10 either, especially being so pleased with 8.1! Im sure 10 will not disappoint! Things can only get better right.

My ass is itching for Win 10 but I have to wait for Creative to release a driver pack for my sound card. Luckily the ETA is August, so it's not like I have to wait long

Right now I'm using the X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty and the driver date is a cool 2010 :( However it is working perfectly, albeit I suspect in some for of legacy mode.
I haven't had any issue though and Windows 10 picked it up and installed this driver itself.

It's available for everyone I think. If you ever installed the preview, they you should get a notification to update to this version. I have an ISO as well for clean installs but that may prove problematic with the license as it needs your existing windows 8/7 license seemingly. I'm unsure about all that

Performance is really a thing and most certainly this is just as fast as Windows 8.1 and all other times faster. It is but a claim right now with no factual numbers behind it. Still busy with other things but I will get on this ASAP and report back with cheap, but cool graphs

Soundblaster ZxR, their chart is here : Creative Worldwide Support

I'm just hoping it's early August

Yeah just found that chart. Getting a Zx soon so need to check. Weird thing is my previous Soundblaster Z worked fine with 10 and 8 x64 drivers, but Ian said he could not get my old ZxR working either. Will check when i get 10 and my ZX.

The update I see available is called TH1 Professional 10240, think i'll only see the retail version end of the month.
Seems this update has a a couple improvements and removes the watermark.

That is the RTM version. :) As confirmed by a PC vendor here.
Retail comes on the 29th, but it is the same build.

Windows 10 Build 10240 = 10*2^10

How can any nerd possibly refrain from pushing that build for RTM :)

so i have legit windows 7 if i install this over that not clean install. will it automatically update the 29th when the final version comes out?

another dumb question quick

come the 29th i upgrade to windows 10 from win 7
and lets say few months down the line i need to reinstall my OS, do i need to install win 7 first then upgrade again?
or can i download a win 10 iso and use my win 7 key?

bit confused as to how this works

Probably won`t be able to update to the 29th. It will start in phases. And no you can do a clean install off Windows 10.

so if i understand this correctly.
the 29th i first need to do the upgrade to register the key. after that i can do a clean instal with that key?

You should have by gotten a little windows icon next your clock. If you go trough that process to register with your email address, i will then bind windows 10 to your email address, and the update will become available to download trough windows update. Not sure what you can do if you have not registered yet.

Correct, It also means if you have 8 or 8.1 the key is connected to your Windows account, it will automatically activate once you log into your microsoft account.

As for the moment I'm upset I didn't set up my laptop last night to get that release, will do that tonight and see where it gets me.
And major changes between build 10130 and the big release?

Also has anyone tried the new browser? I was using spartan and then it disappeared...

I have registered and my upgrade is reserved.

So i can just do a clean install sign into my microsoft account and it would activate?

Does anyone know if the new builds are installed as a clean install, i.e. you have to reinstall all your software again?

Yes as long as your account has 8 or 8.1 connected to it. If not then it SHOULD ask for your CD key and a win7 one "SHOULD" work.

Also all your apps and installed programs will remain, I did a clean install on my system though and when it upgraded through the builds it kept my programs fine.

All in all I love windows 10 already

this is basically what i did

installed win 7
updated registered and reserved my win 10 upgrade
installed win 10 preview over my win7 (not clean install did this so i keep my programs etc like it was in win 7)
created a microsoft account with the preview build.
ran the preview till build 100162
restored win 7 with a image backup i made before installing win 10

ag not gonna stress about this will wait till the 29th LOL!
and figure it out
