So how does it feel to have paid real moola to be a alpha stage tester? Was looking at joining at the weekend but seems ridiculous to spend hundreds of dollars on in game ships to be a alpha tester.

Really hundreds of dollars?
Friend of mine spent $45 and he's playing the crap out of the game.
It's not like the game is bare bones or anything like that. There is a lot to do and explore.

As for paying to be a tester, there are thousands of games on steam that are early access, that you pay for and if you choose you can provide feedback ect. Same deal.
This however is on a completely different scale, this games scope and size is vast. Bigger than anything I've ever played.

I've actually made real cash from playing this game. I've bought some of the special/limited edition ships and sold them on (For a profit) once they stop selling them.

Lol spent the money 5 years ago, however i did start losing faith for a while. Played every patch that came out, reached the top 10 lists in star marine, but i was never really impressed by the game until last week. Although the game doesnt have much to do i can happily say that all the money i spent was well worth it, even though i paid to be an alpha tester, so happy with the game now that i even spent more money.

You dont need to spend hundreds of dollars, you can very easily get away with $45 which will get you the game, a hangar and a small ship to start out with, you can then get in game money by doing jobs or you can just go steal someone elses nice ship. In the next patch which is expected in the month or so you will be able to buy ships in game.

However they do have free fly weekends where you can just go play with out having paid anything, if i remember i will post here when the next one is.

They confirmed that in 3.3 you will be able to rent and buy ships with in game cash. 3.3 is currently in public testing and the release will probably go live in the next few weeks.

Yea you will be able to buy and rent ships in 3.3 but the buying and renting "stores" will only be put in in 3.3.5

Yeah I see they started doing an expression of interest system for some of the big expensive limited edition ships now to prevent large scale buy and sell of limited edition ships. Ridiculous that people would spend 300$+ on what's essentially an in-game purchase

SSSSSHHHHHHHH dont make me feel worse about it xD

Guys, the 3.3 PTU is available for EVERYONE now. Go on RSI, click on your account settiings and scroll all the way down to PTU. Do the thing and get the thing.

Trust me!!! 3.3 is a fucking awesome experience!!!.

And to all the naysayers, I have dropped just under 3k on the game in the 5 plus years I have been a backer and it was definitely worth it!

Looks like I'll be downloading this game tomorrow. I bought at launch and played it a bit then stopped for a while. Looks like it might be good now. :D

Also for flying what are you guys using? Is it advisble to get a xbone controller?

I'm about $850 dollars into backing this thing hehe, and I'm really proud of these buggers after this citizencon. These guys are living up to the promise. How about we do a carbonite org?

You can use whatever control method you prefer. I want to use my hotas setup as there isn't anything else quite like it when you're dogfighting.

And if I knew I would always have enough crew then I might be tempted to try turn my 600i into a hammerhead

I found you in the contacts but it just lets me follow you. You can follow me back, IanStagib

Have you tried PTU 3.3 yet?

The difference in stability between 3.2 and 3.3 is actually mind boggling. I am beyond impressed!

I'm waiting for them to copy my account to the PTU, did it this morning. Did you watch all the citizencon vids? It was mindblowing

I am just waiting for Lorville. I want it so bad!

EDIT: Yes I did watch all the videos. Fascinating stuff. I was starting to get cold feet until this CitizenCon to be honest

I'm up for a Carb Org too, I'm under Le Grand Fromage/LGF on RSI and I currently have a Super Hornet and a Freelancer.
I haven't played since 2.6 so I'm excited to see what the performance is like in 3.3 when it goes live. Can't be bothered to do the PTU this time around.

Lol, not sure how many of you have played the PTU yet but the new patch released including the ability to now buy ships in-game...

...but only from 1 shop in Levski XD

Should really jump on a server. Literally just a ship graveyard with people rushing to check it out, not being able to get a landing pad and literally just jumping out of their ships mid air to check it out XD. Pretty hilarious!
