So who's looking forward to this? Has anyone backed the game yet? What are your thoughts?

yep, had a look at it the other day when I picked up on it from linusTT.

Looks good, but seems like a colossal time sink :p

Seems that it will need extreme hardware, which is the best excuse to get it bar none =-)

Carbonite is a colossal time sink but we're still here :)

I'm quite keen on this game. Freelancer was one of my favourite games. I just hope it is successor to it and not a total failure.

Been looking forward to this for ever. Backed it last year when the Kickstarter was going. Currently have the Avenger:

I was initially excited & considered backing this but a year later they still raking in the cash & no game yet.... What they at now, $27 million?
They keep putting in more content for more cash, they should just finish what they have & release it- add the rest via DLC or something.
I dunno.

They only short around another $150m or so to get to GTA V costs? But yeah, I was thinking exactly the same thing. If they never deliver a game, they still have close to $30m

The timeline seems to indicate a 2015 release. I'm not sure when the funding is gonna stop though. I haven't read the terms and conditions but i'm pretty sure they give you your money back if they don't make the game.

Well the current prices and stuff is going to end end of November (Initial funding goal was $24mil), but the more money they get the more stuff they get to implement. They are doing this completely by themselves without any publishers (I.E. they say what goes into the game and when it's ready and it won't be rushed/incomplete and with things the community don't want (ala BF4)). At the moment we have the Hanger Module where you can inspect your ships and interact with them (see above) and then at the end of December we are getting the Dog Fighting Module where you can fly the ship and fight it against others and then at some point we are also getting the Planet Module not sure when though.

If you watch The Wingmans Hanger on Youtube you will see what they are working on. Most ship models are complete and they are pretty far with the Single Player as well. If you just Google around a bit you can see they have done a lot. There was a pretty good interview here: Chris Roberts Details Squadron 42, Takes On Doubters | Rock, Paper, Shotgun

And from a respected Youtuber:

Initial funding goal was $2m for the game to be released in Oct 2013 (multiplayer only) then campaign 6 months later. I thought at the time, oh okay, sounds good.
Then they went ballistic with the stretch goals & I lost the plot.
Now, a year later, I see a PC release date for Aug 2014 for the single player campaign, multiplayer beta for Dec 2013 (dogfights only)
Then I see "sometime in early 2015" for everything to go live, single/multiplayer/full universe.

That October release was just the hanger module, which they achieved (even earlier). They had planned on the stretch goals from the beginning. They are pretty on track with their plan if you kept with it from the beginning. This is a huge game. Will take a while make.

Here is an interesting discussion from Chris Roberts regarding the game on consoles, and also some additional design ideology around the game.

Also, since the game was first teased in 2012, I rate an early 2015 release makes more sense than a 2014 one for a game of this magnitude. Will see what happens.

Mmmm the Constellation :p You will need multiple people to crew it though...either some friends or hire NPCs...otherwise you are a sitting duck for pirates ;)

I bought the digital bounty hunter with the 300i. I'm thinking of upgrading it to the 325a though

Yeah 300i is a nice ship. Can be used for pretty much anything...

Hahaha I'll have several friends playing the game with me who are willing to serve as my slaves I mean "crew" members :p

The Avenger has finally been updated :D even more sexy now, with fantastic new features.

I don't see that upgrade on the rsi site...

It's not a purchasable upgrade. The current Avenger model is an unfinished one. This is the final version with everything added.

You and I will be needing to do some dogfighting. I'd like to see how we fare up

Indeed we do :) could be quite interesting...and maybe with any of other carb pledgers as well:p

pent a little bit too much money of kickstarter/indie projects that haven't turned out the way they were supposed to or they way I expected - this looks good though, going to wait for dogfighting to come out before I take the jump though.

What projects? Cause I've done the carmageddon one and that one is looking to turn out nicely.

You damn rich kids... don't let me and my Aurora find you in dark back alley. I'll be counting on some trouble.

Let's steal his ship. I'll salvage it and buy something nice for my hangar hehe.

Btw, grabbed the business hangar for my 325a the other day. You can hardly see your ship in the basic hangar
