The anime that broke my virginity:
Basilisk: Kouga Ninpou Chou

I'm a big fan of mecha anime so:
Tegen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Everytime I hear "Sora Iro Days" I get a chill down my spine. I literally know the dialogue in Japanese for this).
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Code Geass (Though it's more political, strategic and downright awesome than it fits into the category of mecha).
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (putting this here coz I don't think I've watched anything like it... and it has robots)
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 & Mobile Suit Gundam 1979 (the original)
Vandread
Eureka Seven
Darling in the Franxx

Short sad anime (These ones made me cry --- and I'm a guy):

Code Geass (I think this fits better here but I started watching it for the mechs).

And I'm done. These are some of the anime that I found to be good. I've watched a ton more but these stick out to me. That's excluding long running anime like Naruto & Shippuden, One Piece, DBZ, Bleach (without the fillers) until just after the fight with Ulquiorra then it's downhill from there etc.

Highly recommend. One of my all time favorites. Definitely the best anime that came out last year.

I might have put it on if I watched it. I don't know how I could have watched so many anime and missed out on FMA but weirdly enough, I have.

FMA, Great teacher Onizuka, Golden boy and trigun are all must watches.

FMA - because its rated as the best anime in history for a reason
GTO - Just an old school light hearted anime
Golden boy - Because deep down we are all perverts
Trigun - (not the remake) is an absolute masterpiece

Word of warning on GTO. There is an OAV that you have to watch before the main series. If I recall the OAV was the reason the main series got made.

I watched it without the prequel, like many others

Similar case to Z without Dragon Ball

The sequel manga's popularity likely had more to do with it getting an adaptation

In this case I am going to tell you to go find the OAV and watch it. It, for me at least, is required to increase enjoyment of that show. Luckily if you own the box set from Madman it includes the OAV episodes.

I agree. It was overhyped. I much preferred several other anime that ran at the same time.

I watched S1 and S2 then dropped it, then January of this year I sat all the way through to the final episode, because so many people said it is good, so I had to see what I am missing.
