Keyboard Nut Thread

Maybe check banggood, I think they have a lot of stuff and buffalo is a pretty decent courier
They seem to have either side printed, or transparent, but not both.

Yeah, Buffalo has been pretty good when I've ordered from Banggood, but don't see them on AliExpress for some reason. Might check some other couriers who do an Aramex Global Shopper type thing.

Aramex Global Shopper does offer addresses in Hong Kong, if that helps

This guy even does a whole song. Amazing. I was about to get some spraylube.

Hi Guys

Thought I would share my first build on here.

Got a keychron k6 as a christmas gift and decided to mod it.

I used krytox 205 for lubing the switches, tub lubed the springs, used a generic switch film on the stock gateron reds.
I clipped and lubed (also used krytox 205) the standard stabs. Did the band aid mod as well.
Keycaps are Drop skylight blue/white.
The did a little spray job on the aluminum frame.

Pleased with the end result, loving the sound an the look.

So did a few mods on my work keyboard. I know the caps and switches are more than the actual keyboard but heyyy... It's a fun keyboard for LANs and work. As @dotnerd says, everything sounds better with creams, so got a few of those (the Tofu60 build is running the same switches)
Thanks to @ctrlshiftesc_za for hooking me up with the NK Creams, Flight PBT set and some awesome Durock V2 Stabs(for the Tofu build). As always amazing service

Good Morning

So I'm looking to replace my Redragons K530s case with something a bit more solid, now I can't find anything online that I can just buy and use, so I was wondering if anyone knows a place that makes good quality custom keyboard cases??

Thanks

So keyboard nutters, I'm sure someone has tried this or looked into it but would this can of Superlube work for lubing switches,

I Know there are a few videos on youtube of people using Superlube spray to quickly lube their switches, and there is also evidence that you can damage your board.

Example of spray lube, lubing.

However is the one on rs-components safe to lube with? I would like to spray the lube into a container and brush the switches instead of spraying directly inside the switches.

Have you had a look at what's in stock at www.ctrlshiftesc.co.za ? They've got some great custom and DIY cases and kits.

New Baby arrived last week. Obviously did the obligatory mods to the board, although Internal Sound Dampening is not really an option due to space limitations. Had to go with external sound dampening.
Gateron Yellows (As always for me!!)
Keyboard Kulture Lube
All switches filmed
DROP Acute PBT Keycaps
OLKB Stabilser (Only one on the space bar + Band Aid Mod)

First few days getting used to this was living hell, my typing speed went down to the lower 20's 😔
Now into my second week and things are getting a lot easier and now that I've learnt how to play with QMK, setting up custom profiles is making the world of difference.
I may accidently have a second one on the way as a project board..................😇😇😇

I'm slowly falling in love.......................

You could probably even get away with spraying the components individually if you're going to be disassembling the switches

Well I have a K70 Lux so that's a bit too much work then I'm willing to put in, de soldering etc I've got size 00 flat hobby craft brushes so I'm hoping this will improve the keyboard without too much effort, the Permatex Diaelectric is somewhere in jhb atm.

My opinion on Spray Lubes is as simple as this (This is an opinion, I'm not a scientist, but I have played with so many different spray lubes)

Stay away from spray lube unless you know EXACTLY what ingredients are in the can. The problem with spray lube is not the actual Lube itself, but the chemicals they use to make the lube come out of the can!!
They generally never disclose this in detail, and unless you know exactly what chemicals they are using, steer clear (If you know what it is, and you know what the reaction between your specific plastic and that chemical is, then go ahead, but remember, there are more than one material (Plastics and Metals) in each switch)
During my time testing out all the different lubes a while back, I tried a plethora of different spray lubes on different plastics, and it was almost guaranteed to be unexpected results. There is a good reason most spray products don't add plastic as safe to their cans, purely because there are so many different types of plastics and so many different reactions to those plastics with different chemicals.
Even some paints affect plastics badly, makes them dry up and crack.
Some effects even came later on, after a few weeks (One specific spray lube looked like it worked fine, and about 3 weeks later I went to use the specific switch and it literally started crumbling in my hands)

Just my opinion
:)

How did you get them to ship it to you? Been wanting a planck for a while and couldn't figure out how to get it to me without it costing an arm and a leg.

Built my first keeb!! I can't believe how amazing it feels and sounds.

Drop Carina Kit
Brass plate
KBDfans Chalk SA profile caps from @ctrlshiftesc_za
Drop halo true switches

I wanted a tactile switch but these feel really smooth and linear. They barley feel tactile before lubing them. I want to do a silent build next and try Zilents. I really really love this. I am so stoked.

I will show you guys what the RGB looks like once I figure out how to configure this with QMK.

A person of culture I see
Oh absolutely!!! I have yet to come across a Linear that is better for me. Been trying to get a set of Tealios/Zealios to see if the hype is real. Oh, Gateron Black Inks are really nice as well, but the ones I managed to play with were not set up very well, and I haven’t been able to bag a set for myself yet, so until then, Gateron Yellows are just too good!!!

Nice board, welcome to the craziness that is the Custom KB Rabbit Hole. Say goodbye to your cash, your sleep (waiting for stuff to arrive) and your sanity.
I love how everyone shows off their first board and then immediately tells you what they want to build next 😂😂😂😂

It’s like the moment you enter this hobby, a shelf needs to be cleaned off to display the next 8 that you are gonna build.

“One Keyboard, who has one keyboard?
Poor peasant!!!”

😂😂😂

What do people believe to be the best tactile switch available in SA?

I've used MX, gateron and outemu browns and looking for options of what to try next

I'd guess the Novelkeys Blueberries, but you really don't have much choice at all

For my personal projects only, but does someone know where I can find a gerber file for something like the GK or MK61. Anything that supports optical switches as well?

Can only find stuff like the DZ60

🤣🤣🤣 haha! it's so satisfying. Damn well I hope I don't lose control because it's a super expensive hobby. I almost lost my mind having everything for the build except the switches. I only. want two boards though. (famous last words?)

Does anyone know someone that offers keyboard customizing services (not sure what would be the right words:unsure:). I'm looking at soldering new keys on my board and adding new stabilizers. Thanks in advance 😬
