Keebers, tell me I've found the promised cheap keeb switch lube?

Keebers, tell me I've found the promised cheap keeb switch lube?

Sorry bud, this isn't gonna work either. When we last chatted about spray lube, I mentioned the problem of chemical additives, but there is a very serious second problem, and that is gravity!!
Spraying a thin water consistency lube onto the stem and housing of a switch presents a whole other problem than just the chemical corrosion, it also has the problem of running downwards towards the bottom of the switch. this is exaggerated even more the fact we bang like there's no tomorrow on our keys, the stuff is just poised to run down into a nice pool of slick residue on the bottom of your switch unfortunately.

Getting the correct thickness of lube is extremely important. The switches will feel great for the first 24 hours, but very quickly the lube is gonna run down causing that all hated clacky clacky. The next problem with this, is that people will simply add some more, and then more, and you eventually sit with a huge puddle of the stuff in the switch with nowhere to go, except all over the PCB, and that is a scenario you really do not want happening,

@VandaL , there are plenty of guys who have done a whole load of testing on this thread and even more on international forums. There is a very good reason that anyone who's physically done months of testing will ALL say, stay away from stuff unless it's been tried and tested.
It's not a money making scheme, or people trying to be elitist, it's purely that to make a good lube that can stand the punishment of being beaten all day and be safe for use on multiple plastics and metals cost's serious bucks to manufacture in small quantities. If it was a mainstream lube that sold millions of tubes a month, we wouldn't be paying what we pay for lube, and it would probably be around R100 for 50g, but because it's so specialized, its crazy expensive. I wish it wasn't so, but it is what it is.

Take it from someone who's damaged more switches and PCB's than anyone has any real right too.................:):):):)

Anyone that's interested, IDOBAO have a special on their Id80 V1 for like 2.2k with free shipping(DHL or FedEx) to South Africa.

Also wanted to know if anyone was keen to do a group buy on some Gateron Black Ink or Zelios Switches.
It's around R1300 for 100 BlackInks and R1800 for 100 Zelios and if we can get atleast 5 guys on board shipping will be like R200

I'd be down to join a local group buy for either of those switches

Awesome, the more we are the cheaper it'll be.
You should post in the Keyn discord too. Invite link was posted here a little while ago

@huzidada I'm in for a set of both Gateron Ink Blacks and I'd rather get a set of Tealios V2 instead of Zealios, shouldn't make any real difference to the order.
Also, a set for me is only 50 switches (The joys of 40% boards), so effectively I would need 50 x Gateron Ink Blacks and 50 x Tealios V2's.
If that's okay of course, if the minimum for the group buy is 100 switches per line item, then that's okay too, I'll take a 100 of each, but would rather only take 50 of each if possible :)

Perfect I'll add prices here as we go along... I'm dealing with MK Zealot. Store on Ali if any of you'll want to check what's lekker and we can ship to me. Swaziland may be dead but the postal service and my lick with them is amazing.. Will get switches up to my brother in Sandton for free when they arrive

I am interested in

Zealio™ V2 Switches (Tactile)

Afternoon all, I thought I would be courteous to my fellow keyboard enthusiasts and let everyone on this specific thread know that I will be posting a couple of keyboards for sale this afternoon. I would rather them go to a fellow KB Enthusiast than to the general community, as I know how hard these things are to find and how quickly they go when posted, especially with all the resellers on the forum as of late.

I don't want to break any rules, so I'll just mention the basics of what I am going to sell, and then I will create official posts a bit later.

I will be selling a 40% OLKB Planck V6 and a Aluminium Hotswap Keychron K2, both of them loaded with extras and customizations.
If you are interested in the meantime, you are more than welcome to WhatsApp me on 063 zero 59 2495.

Even if we do go ahead with a deal before I post the official posts, I will still post the actual sale and then allocate it to the correct person.

If this is breaking the rules in any way, please let me know and I'll remove this post ASAP

Hi all. So I'm currently running Gateron Yellows in my board. Im looking to try something else. Would y'all recommend Gateron blacks or browns?

So, I will be receiving 3 orders this week. Kbdfans, kineticlabs and hopefully PimpMyKeyboard. One of which FINALLY has a full resin case!
Also, 4 sets of switches to play with :)

Tested some Tamiya Plastic Model Co. Ceramic Grease over the weekend on some spare MX Reds.
Must say it performs very similarly to Krytox g2. With the g2 winning slightly on noise levels and smoothness. Very hard to tell the difference. Both lubes look almost identical.
Not sure how well it will hold up in the long run, but well worth it for the price.

I've seen some comments online a while back of people using 3d printer grease for lubing switches. It looks safe and should work like a charm. Have you used this before? What is the consistency like?
I'm a keyboard noob and only ever used it on lead screws its not that thick at all

Looks a little creamier in color compared to the Krytox

Introducing my very first quality keeb, a hard to recognize Keychron K2 (Version 2).

  • This amazing Custom job was done by @Keyboard Kulture : Including this sublime glossy red aluminium frame that looks even better in person.
  • Sporting Gateron Reds. It's an absolute joy to type on with lubing throughout all switches, sound dampening and band-aid mods on the stabs.

Sick stuff, You're officially now the Keyboard Overlord.

Let us know how those penguins are. I've had some in my cart for a while but I'm way too happy with my Fake Panda's
I need to know about those penguins too!

Just a general observation here.

So switch Films, probably one of the more controversial aspects of Keyboard modding.
Here's my 2c, and again, before anyone has a flat out panic attack or get triggered, remember this is my opinion.
I am not always right. Except I am.

They are firstly extremely over priced, and I mean extremely over priced. these things should not cost more than R10 for a 1000, and even that is decent profit. It just seems that the moment anything falls into the realm of Custom Keyboards, it's a license to slap a huge price tag onto it. And it truly is a catch 22 situation, because if they price them too low, us Keyboard Fans immediately think that it rubbish, so they have to price them high to actually sell.

I have now tried 3 different types of keyboard films on various switches and have come to a conclusion.
They do absolutely NOTHING to the sound, feel and operation of the switch. No extra stability. No thockier sound profile. Nada!
In fact, if anything, they make the switches worse. If you don't get them perfectly lined up, they can quite easily add a slight ticking sound to your switch where the edge of the film is catching on the moving parts, and the fact that these things actually change the tolerances of the switch, cause more friction on the moving parts and therefore increase noise.
I also cannot find any evidence of a single switch actually getting more stable from using these, in fact, again the opposite can happen as the clips no longer hold as they should and can cause extra wobble or even the top housing coming loose.

Unless I am seriously missing the boat, this seems to me like this is a case of Placebo, and I will no longer be filming any of my switches going forward. After removing all mine after a re-lube (Trying a new Lube), the switches sounded identical and I had perfect consistency across the whole keyboard.

Okay, rant over. As you were. Again, my opinion, not fact, but be I'll damned if I saw one single advantage of these pesky little things!!!!

Does anyone know how to install a bigger battery into a keyboard like a GK68XS? Imagine having a wireless keeb that can run for months.

Also, I worked in concrete casting as vacation work, and I am wondering what a concrete base would sound like. Obviously it would be quite fragile if it isn't thick enough

Some interesting ideas.

What switches did you test them on? I think if you can easily move the top half of the switch before applying them, they might make a difference, but none of the switches I have have that issue.

On the plus side - you should be able to have a million of them printed at a sign printing business, or anybody with a vinyl cutter and put them up for sale on your site 🤪 (at R10/1000 of course)

Had to check back in my notes. Luckily I'm a document everything kind of guy!!

These were the tested switches:

Gateron Red, Yellow (v1 and v2), Black, Clear and Blue
Novelkey Creams and Blueberry's
Cherry Red
Kailh Speed Copper
Gateron Ink Black
Content Green and Blue

Just need to find a printer willing to print them!!!
