Keyboard Nut Thread

Just picked up my first mechanical keyboard! The Keychron K8 with Gateron Brown Switches,
-It has lived up to most of my expectations.
-The height really isn't an issue, The 2 prop up feet make it easier to type as well,
-However when typing really fast i notice the ping is quite audible when the switch bottoms out, Not a deal breaker tho,
-Now its time for mods! Looking at getting nicer less boring keycaps, Blue & White or other cool colours
I just got mine and first things first...
Foam! Keyboard has plenty of space for something decent.. Huge difference!
Stabs lubed with Krytox made a decent change however I had a set of Gateron Stabs and they make a huge difference. The key caps are cheap and do not sound so nice, a good set of double shot abs or pbt would change the presses dramatically...
Also took out the browns and replaced with a set of gateron blacks, and they sound amazing. Altho I have to say with the foam, my Holy Pandas don't sound too bad either😍 all in all a very capable Keyboard

I am currently typing Keychron K8 TKL Gateron Browns I immediately put o-rings on them. However I obviously tested before and I can the keys are great, the o-rings only dampen the sound and shorten the bottoming out/travel distance a little bit. However the stock stabs on this thing are worlds ahead of the Ducky I had, not even comparable to be quite honest.

Gateron Browns feel better than Cherry, smoother but still tactile and the entire keypress just feels more refined as a whole. And just to say it again, the stock stabs on this board are fucking top-notch, could not be happier right now with this board. I definitely need to get a wrist rest though as this is a tall body.

A big big thank you to @Techfox for holding 1 of the last 2 for me (especially given this may be the only batch that comes in), and the absolutely flawless customer service. Top-notch, genuine person to have a talk with, I am a very happy customer right now & for the foreseeable future.
No the stabs are still disgusting... Please at least lube them properly if you feel scared of clipping its awkward feet😂😂😂

K4 V2 Stabs Gateron Browns
Compared to something a bit better 😂😂😂
Dz60 V2 RGB
I was rather surprised at them one of those double back moments when you first hear the sound of them.

Is anybody experienced with connecting Keychrons in windows? my PC is not discovering it at all in Bluetooth devices and whilst I would use it in wired mode, the cable is the only gripe I have with the product as the length is certainly not long enough to have freedom of movement.
Make sure switch is in BT mode, open Bluetooth on you pc and say add device, keyboard, and then press FN +F1 on your keyboard. It should be discoverable

I am saying they are a lot better then Ducky's stock stabs xD

Trust me Huzi I have tried absolutely everything xD The board is not discoverable by my PC without my antenna. It works just as expected on a laptop, and just as expected with my wifi antenna, so something with one of the receivers are not playing nice at all. because if I take out the antenna whilst it is paired, it still notices the board and says it is paired but it isn't connected and cannot type anything.

What foam did you use?

Where to get lube locally?
I ordered some permatex for the stabs off Amazon, not sure when it will arrive. Krytox seems to be a mythical substance in SA, and around R600 to import from amazon.

Unfortunately, the ones on Amazon are Grade 2. I've been through that route. I'll PM you regarding the lubes

Got my Roccat Horde AIMO, it's not fancy fancy but damn I enjoy this KB. Looks nice, bit of plastic but that's never bothered me. Keys feel easy to press; it's pretty quiet and the mid profile caps are very nice to use.

I think @ctrlshiftesc_za has a lubing service, maybe you can get in touch with them to see if they have any lube for sale on the side

Guys Takealot just got the entire keychron range in stock!!! The K2 Hot Swap & K1:love:

Anyone waana buy a K8?😂

Got my K8 TKL up for sale for us weebs because I couldn't resist having more keys :p

So what would be the most preferred, Logitech G915 TKL wireless or a Ducky One 2SF?
Ducky. Logitech locks you in with those custom switches. My logitech board has gross keycaps I wanted to change them only to find out I’m locked into what logitech has to offer because the switches and keycaps design are so unique.

Any group buys happening/planned for 2021?

I missed out on last year's one :(

At the moment not really, locally, I've had good results with banggood. rebeltech used to stock them back in the day, so if they come back you might hear something

So I've got myself the Mistel Barocco MD770. Great keyboard, almost exactly what I wanted (switches are not hot swappable, but I've only ever wanted browns anyway).

So, the backlighting is a bit stupid in that the keycaps are not transparent. I knew this going in, and thought it's fine, I'll just get some transparent keycaps or swap over the ones from my old Redragon. I've now discovered that the switches are mounted with the RGB LED at the bottom...which means regular keycaps which expect the LED at the top, don't quite work.

I have seen some front-printed keycaps like these that appear to be ideal for this problem, but AliExpress shipping is a bit crazy.

Any ideas?

Thought I would just quickly show off latest Project Board.
Keychron K2 v2 Alu Frame Hot Swap Switches with the following mods :

  • Lubed Gateron Red Switches (We were gonna change these to Either Gateron Milky Yellows or NK Creams, but the Reds Lubed so damn well we decided to stick with them - Gateron = Lube KING Switches!!!)
  • Custom Frame Color - Poppy Red
  • Genesis Audio Sound Dampening Internal
  • Genesis Audio Sound Dampening External (Between Board and Desk)
  • PBT Double Shot Keycaps
  • Stabilizers Clipped and Heavy Lubed
  • Band Aid Mod
  • Custom Wrist Rest with Matching Board Colors (Not In Picture as It's still drying, so just used a place holder)
Had fun on this one, and the Lubing and Mods made such a Massive difference on this board!!!
Sound and feel is as good as any High End Board I have used or worked on.

Also, I'm looking for some switches if anyone has to sell.
I'm looking for a set of Zealios/Tealios/Gateron Inks/Alpacas/Holy Pandas/Gateron Milky's or any other weird and wonderful set of switches you have that you might not use anymore. I need a minimum of 50 and maximum of 120.
Please shoot me a DM if you are interested in selling them.
Thanks

Maybe check banggood, I think they have a lot of stuff and buffalo is a pretty decent courier

Well after close to a week of having my Roccat Horde keyboard today a few keys randomly stopped working. i re-installed the software, reset everything to default, restarted machine, removed all drivers, reg files and any trace and even let windows do its thing with standard generic drivers and still no comprende. put in a TakeAlot request for replacement.
