Seller: @Mariuspay
Buyer: @Dksmiley

Deal thread link: [Wanted] - I7 6700 or 7700 | Intel

Description of Bad Deal:

On the 9th of May I purchased a i7 6700k cpu from @Mariuspay for 2k which failed on the 30th May.

Upon inspection the CPU was delidded but was never advertised as such by the seller (Pics attached)

I was not even aware delidding was a thing till educated by a friend yesterday.

@Techspertz assisted me to test and verified the CPU is dead.

Does not seem that the seller wants to take responsibility or refund me.

Also in addition to a dead CPU it has messed up my mobo as my ram slots are all faulty except slot 1, tested with an i5 6400.

Hi @Dksmiley

From my knowledge delidding does not have an effect on the CPU in terms of lifetime it is more to do with the temperature and voltages.

If it is done probably there should not be any problems at all.

Still, it isn't right of the seller to not state that the CPU was delidded.

@Mariuspay your input is requested, please.

Also, please update your template:

That is exactly why I am annoyed with this whole situation, if it was advertised as delidded then I wouldn’t have an issue, the problem now is I sit with a dead cpu that has damaged my motherboard. This has been tested with a working cpu and new ram, I even gave Marius the benefit of the doubt and bought a new board to test his cpu but it is infact dead.

I am the seller in this deal.

I bought the CPU off Carb 2 years ago. I was not informed that the CPU was delidded. It ran in a Asrock motherboard with absolutely no problems and was never overclocked. I sold the CPU because I upgraded. The buyer messaged me after one week and said that he is very happy with the CPU and it is running really well. I sold the Asrock Z270 motherboard at the same time. The buyer of said motherboard let me know after 2 days the motherboard not posting. Board was returned to Corex under warranty. Bent pins was found on the board and they refused RMA. I pleaded with them and got Z170 for Trade in on Z270. Paid in money. Supplied Z170 to buyer on Asrock Z270. I then get message from buyer that board does not post and he is at buyer of CPU. The buyer of the motherboard went to his premises and the motherboard suddenly fine. This whole situation smells.

Just my 2c, I work with @Dksmiley and the dude is as reliable and trustworthy as they come. The seller, accusing him and the MB buyer, of dishonesty, is completely unjustified.

I can fully vouch (even with my low itrader), that nothing unjust has been done by the buyer.

Please can you focus on the topic at hand and not dwell on your motherboard sale. I only met Abdul as he was selling a board as I have explained to you. The only thing that smells is the CPU you sold, If your cpu lasted 3 months or 6 I wouldn’t have an issue but seeing it lasted less than 20 days is a disappointment, since you are so big into custom watercooling and it was delidded kinda smell funny? 🤨

OK, thank you for your inputs.

Honestly, in my few years I have never heard about a CPU just dying on you (AMD or Intel).

Uhm, so if I read it correctly, @Dksmiley did you bent the pins on the motherboard? This could maybe also damage the CPU if I am not mistaken but there isn't a definite answer.

The last part is a bit confusing, did the motherboard work and now it does not anymore?

My motherboard pins are not bent Marius is talking about some other deal that he did and confusing you

I never bought the board that Abdul was selling(Marius old board) as the cpu would not post on that z170 board..I was running it on a b150 Asus pro gaming aura board, an i5 6400 will post but his i7 has caused issues so my ram slots are now defective and I am without a rig.

IMO RAM slots defective tells me 90% probability that there is bent mobo pins.

In all my years, and it's been quite a few, I have never, not once heard of a CPU going from a completely working state to a dead state without some sort of human intervention. And the human intervention usually means insane overclocking without due consideration and then too I've only ever seen one CPU give up the ghost. Nor have I ever heard of a wonky CPU killing off a motherboard and RAM. I don't reckon it's at all possible in fact. Modern electronics have failsafes built in to prevent damage to other components when certain conditions aren't met.

Mods - please remove if this post adds no value.

Good morning I would like to defend myself in this situation and say that I was trying to use the board with his cpu and it was not working

I have used a different cpu now and it is working perfectly so pls do not involve me in this as I also have picture proof that he sent me showing the previous board he has given me had bent pins when he gave it to me and I did not damage it in any way on my side

1 more thing is that it was the USB 3.0 pins were bent not the cpu pins

@Dksmiley can you confirm that the CPU was working when you received it?

I agree with @Star_22, there must bent pins on the motherboard.
Yes but it was delidded, I did not pay for a delidded cpu it was advertised as an i7 6700k

Hi star his cpu was tested on an asrock z170 board and also a gigabyte h110m-ds2 and it will not post, the pins on my b150 are not bent as a i5 6400 works and posts, as I have a b150 overclocking is not an option and I ran it stock

He said the previous seller did not mention it to him. Appearance-wise they look the same. @G3t Wr3k3d please correct me if I am wrong.

@Dksmiley you not answering my question, did the CPU work when you got it before all of this happened?

Yes it worked, the picture I uploaded shows some sort of red silicone around the heat sink

@Dksmiley

I quote the words of @G3t Wr3k3d:
Is this done when putting the heat sink back on? The problem is if someone inexperienced delidded the cpu, could it not have consequences?

@Andrew_Smith is this even a carb deal? I dont see actual deal link anywhere apart from two people being on carb there is not link?

Also what were the warrenty terms agreed this is almost working for a month, i get the seller sold a delidded item but he didnt know dont think its fair now for him to sort out a month after the fact

It’s fine did some research, intel uses a black paste so this was definetly delidded

If a delid is done nicely, you wont even know the difference visually.
Years back I bought a 3770k off carb that was also delidded and it somehow went bad ( my seller at the time also wasn't aware of it, or he lied :D )
Booting into bios had it on 80 degrees ! [ I re-delid it myself, dropping temps to frosty low 20s idle and 50 max loads]

Did you monitor your temps after your install? Thermal protection/throttling should protect it, though I'm sure extended max out temps would not be great for a cpu's life... Now, you could argue a non delidded cpu would be less likely to have these issues.
But if it worked for a bit, and you didn't monitor temps, causing it to degrade and die, you cant pin that on the seller imo.

Standard Cpus do not have the red silicone around them no.

Yes, it was indeed.

I did monitor my temps with core temp and also have a shutdown temp of 70c as it is watercooled with an 240mm AIO my cpus never hit above 60-65 when stressed

Done, seller saw my thread and sent me a pm to advise he has an i7 6700k for sale

Yes, an inexperience person who delids a CPU can cause harm, I think @G3t Wr3k3d can totally agree on that.

@Dksmiley @Mariuspay

Were there any warranty terms discussed when the deal was made?

No unfortunately no warranty terms were discussed, seller wanted to get rid of the cpu ASAP so I dropped everything on the day and went to get it
