So I pose this question to you guys and girls of the forums

Star Craft was one of the first games I ever played on PC way back when I was a lil whipper snapper. I came across the Battle.net launcher the other day and saw they had it there for free to play so I didn't think twice and got on it. Graphics wise the game definitely hadn't aged well but apart from the resolution locked to half my screen it was just as good as I remember it being.

The remastered version is out which was basically a graphics overhaul and that's about it. Now with most remastered games they fix bugs, update AI and make the game overall more playable (Dark Souls if you will). In this case all they did was make the game look pretty.

Now my question is, is it worth paying for a game that looks pretty, when the exact same game with the exact same story, bugs and terrible ai pathing is absolutely free? When much newer games are on special on steam for less? Tell me why you think so.

Now to clarify this isnt me asking if I should do it, more so a question into society and what people value. Call it a social experiment if you will.

Hell yeah I'll play it again. Great game, even with it's flaws. I tried playing Kane's Wrath the other day and the graphics just killed it for me. People expect more these days, even if the core game is brilliant.

Starcraft was (is?) a highly competitive game with a serious professional league etc - if they messed with the pathing etc in any way it would seriously upset the balance of a game that was tweaked, balanced and fine-tuned like a Japanese turbo 1600. In trying to fix it I think they would ruin it.

When much newer games are on special on steam for less? Tell me why you think so.
Because they're crap. If they were good they'd be selling and wouldn't be in the bargain bin at Musica.

Interesting response i must say it really put me to thought. I never thought of it from a competitive standpoint as it is a game i purely play for the campaign. Never really was interested in its multiplayer if im honest.

Had a friend that played it semi pro years back, watched a few of those games, those guys play rts like I play fps with the mouse and keyboard. Rush and storm was two words I heard a lot and then a whole lot of gibberish code teamspeak

OP, get Starcraft 2, you will not be disappointed! It is free for online and competitive games and I think the first (Terran) campaign is free as well.

Ah I still have the original with the Brood Wars expansion. Great fun. Pity I've gotten tired of RTS games.
