Keyboard Nut Thread

Here's my current favourites:

- Of the shelf: Ducky 3087, soldered mx browns and side printed pbt caps.. (soon to be box burnt orange)
- Custom: ErgoDox EZ, hotswap with kailh speed copper and sculpted pbt caps. (soon to be glorious pandas)
- DIY: Iris (she is broken),
- Vintage: '93 IBM Buckling Spring.

You have a buckling spring keyboard, clearly we agree on something in the keyboard space.

I'm so glad JLCPCB only allows orders in lots of 5 or more, I made some dumb mistakes and I've ended up killing 2 of the PCBs, but at least I've almost got one whole keyboard out of it

Hi Guys , so I got a question - I am looking for a keyboard with the following specs . I do stream so I don't want a clicky keyboard that the mic constantly picks up.

Must have media keys at least
Must have F Keys
Don't want full size preferably - Ten keyless keyboard would be better suited
Must be good for gaming at least

Any idea's ?

I had quite a search to find one locally from my birth year... Eventually someone actually posted one on carb. The price was a bit steep, so I let her go. The dude messaged me 6months later, dropped the price to what I was comfortable paying and included a second buckling spring board. :D

He thought the second one was worth much less because it has a terminal connection, so he included it to sweeten the deal. Now I own 2 buckling spring boards. One from '93 (my bae) and another from '95. I have yet to build the little translator from terminal to USB for the latter.

No keyboard is specifically good or bad for gaming, really. You'll probably be most likely to find a good TKL or 75% board with what you want, provided you're willing to live with having the media keys on a layer

Can't wait for the results!

Also to whoever mentioned the beyond customs coiled cable, I hate you now.

Oh.. noo... look! Pretty cables

Oh no... my birth year is 95. I don't wanna get a buckling spring but I really like the concept of getting something like that from your birth year, you can have that as a nice sentimental value piece. I think I will stick to having an original windows 95 case and such on my wall in a frame >.>

Just for my own sanity sake, are these your photos or taken from the internet?
Haha sorry, these are from the guys who make the cables overseas. But! I am busy with prep to begin my little custom shop since I normally work with mouse paracords, its just sourcing the materials which will cost quite a bit given the import duties. But you can get these shipped here for about $29 + 20 shipping, and I know for a cable that's a lot but... yes.

I am relieved to know that you do not have 20+ blue aviator cables in a drawer somewhere. :D

I did a proper order from Beyond Customs. Impulse buy and I just randomly selected colours on different cables. Let's hope they turn out okay.

Edit. I updated my order with some more sensible options. My decision making was farked yesterday looking at some of the combos.

From beyond customs?

Yeah from them, but there are also other places like mechcables. But I normally use MyUS for shipping as they forward stuff from the US at a reasonable price with DHL Express, but customs always throw random numbers. Like R600 import price because.. uhh.. its a luxury item!

(it was a plastic board...)

If you ever do build such a translator lemme know.

I've got an old 90s terminal version floating around myself.

Whilst we are on the topic...what the hell is the point of coiled cables?

I thought we were supposed to be all about minimalism and hiding all the cables away, yet adding an extra sausage of cable seems to go directly against that. Why shrink the space being taken up on your desk with a 60% and then turn right around a slap a giant cable on it?

A E S T H E T I C S

Loads of space above my keyboard to put more stuff. Minimalism sucks! Add moar! Just as long as there's sufficient space to flick my mouse around.

Damn, I'm sure I'd score noddy points if I got the SO a fancy white coily 🤔

Anyone wanna jump on a cable GB? 😂

For... reasons? Basically loooooooooooks. You can't tell me it looks ugly.

It can be both minimalistic and make everything pop. I mean look at this!

Also if you want to go the minimalist way, you can use them combined to make things easier on the eyes (and cable manage) Also, please note these are not mine (this is so @PandaAttack1 doesn't have a heart attack again)

Hahahha don't feed the troll man

So we mention cables and you buy some hmm... let's start talking about keycult so you're bankrupt!
You funny guy! KeyCult I can handle. The price is high not because of the product, but because they limit the supply. If it was fairly priced I would be all over that shizz, but my mind is not so far gone yet to justify those insane prices. Yet.

Also, you're assuming I'm not bankrupt already.

Weeks? Oh my sweet summer child...
No these past few weeks have been me going mad with upgrades and shipments from Glorious.

Been a keyboard sunkenmoneyship enthusiast for a few years now.

Also, yeah keycult's overpriced stuff is why I don't care about it too much, but my god if I had the money I would be all over it.

"We" 😂😂😂

Yes "We"

The irony being that I don't give a shit actually. My desk is an absolute cable jungle as I'm all about function over form.

But looking at desk setup pics that's now what "we" are after.

And yet in both cases it'd be more minimalist and cleaner with just a straight-up cable.

A setup can still be minimalist, clean and aesthetically pleasing with a coiled cable on the desk.

If you care for the absolute minimalist setup, just go wireless. If you want to add some character to a clean setup, a coiled cable is a nice way to do it.

Why not let people enjoy what they enjoy?

As somebody who likes full metal keyboards and a nice clean look. Im not sure how to feel about this one...
