Hi guys,
As the topic states is Afrihost really that bad???? Reason I ask is that I received another 5gb trial account, tested all day from downloads to gaming to streaming to speedtest and not a single hiccup. My ping in Assetto Corsa to a server in Netherlands was 190ms to 220ms all day today. Downloads on a 2meg line peak at 220. Youtube streams at 480p automatically without any buffering.
So is Afrihost on their way back up (issues resolved) or are there a few of us lucky fish that are not experiencing any of these dreaded AH issues that everyone is complaining about???

its a trial account, trials get higher preference, till you start paying lol

Well, to be honest all accounts are like that. It's once you hit a murky 'threshold' usage limit that they start throttling you down again. It's why I ended up getting a capped account because at least the traffic is prioritized.

Been a Afrihost member for almost 2 years now. Last couple of months went down hill fast. Even on my business uncapped speeds are horrible during peak hours and the upload are ridiculous at a point were speed test time out

Lets hope they recover from this otherwise I will move

I thought about that.... But didnt think they would be that dirty. Isnt that false advertising??
Ive actually got a Vox fatpipe 100gb but I was considering AH since they double your data so I would be getting 75+75gb x2 and last night I had a small hiccup with Vox but nothing since then. I just loaded up my Vox account and ran speedtest, surely this cant be right on a 2meg line?

jasong, I was planning on using a capped account 150gb x2. Uncapped in SA is kak

No, they're worse. If you wanna stream anything, forget it. Had Business Uncapped for a year and the streaming was rarely without stutters.

Yea... I guess capped accounts are okay, haven't tried Afrihost but I don't have any complaints about my Openweb one. Especially as I get unlimited after-hours downloads which I can schedule.

Same here on a 100GB account

The streaming's shit on all accounts. Business Uncapped is the same thing anyway, just no cap. I had constant streaming issues, and then purchased a 10GB capped account, and the issues were still exactly the same on streaming.

For heavy downloading etc. it's magnificent, but I can download everything I want after midnight now anyway.

Im really caught in the middle, my AH account is flawless.... But I think I might just stick with Vox and avoid potential issues

Afrihost capped is the way for now, tried a lot of isp's before People who think a uncapped account should perform wonders should get over it, and go capped, limit your downloads. We live in mzansi remember

mzansi = bedonner jou met als

Except if, like me, you depend heavily on streaming. And yes, someone will tell me theirs is working flawlessly on Afrihost, but there were so many who reported the same symptoms as me, and they still couldn't tell me what exactly was going on months after I initially reported it.

I seem to be a bit of an outlyer as well... on Afrihost Business Uncapped (4Mb) and my line is up ~99% of the time and speeds are maxed 24/7.

Yeah my brother also depended on streaming for netflix/hulu. He got 720p on his capped 4mb,with 480p now and then, still capped was the best option for streaming out of all the other tested isps and packages tested

2mb uncapped with afrihost, no issues on my side, average about 16 to 18gb per day no throttling for me...

Good for him. I and many others on MyBB did not share the same good experience.

The guys with good speeds how far are you from you exchange
those with bad speeds how far are you?

Ill assume those furthest away will always have speed issues or am i wrong?
Also those with speed issues do you maybe have an msi board with killer nic and windows 8 or 8.1?

I was just about to comment on that, his exchange is about 6 houses from him.

10mb AH bussiness here. Ah have their problems but 95% of the time since im with them, its great. Im very very close to the exchange. When people were complaining I was not bad at all. It did go slower for a couple of days but Im patient to wait a week or so to resolve :)

I have a 20MB business uncapped account. For years it was great, but for the past 6 months it's been terrible. The past two especially.

Some days are better than others, but I can't remember the last time I had a week of decent performance. It's been about 65% decent vs. 35% terrible for the past two months. P2P is basically hard throttled all day every day, and this on an apparently uncapped and unshaped account.

Right now my Telkom account - my TELKOM account! - is much much better than the Afrihost one.

I would seriously recommend people go elsewhere. Stay away from anything with an MTN backbone. My Axxess account has the same issues as Afrihost. Try to stream baseball and I get 240P and it lags on Axxess (capped account btw), and switch over to Telkom uncapped and I get full HD no lag. And this was last night so it's an ongoing issue with these ISPs.

Couldn't agree more. I have seen the MTN Backbone mess around many a client

I sadly have a uncapped Afrihost account, I have constant issue with downloading (torrent especially)

I have logged the calls and I get told its my line every time.

Lucky for Afrihost, I am just to lazy to move at the moment

I randomly started having issues with my line and the support I got from Afrihost was extremely poor. It seems like the quality of their support dropped at around the same time the bandwidth quality started dropping. Grabbed one of those 1TB Vox accounts while they were still valid and haven't had issues since.

I was at mweb......... never again. Was at telkom...... never again....... tried open openweb? AHAHAHAH what a joke never again. Im at afrihost capped atm and it seems to be the best so far they do get their shit days but rarely. Best out of all I tested so far.

1st ISP was Mweb, never, ever again.

I'm at AH now, while the speed is slower during peak times, I get my designated speeds about 15 hours a day. Just keep in mind they are busy upgrading..

I've got a 10 meg line that I pay fr via telkom, and I use afrihost as ISP and I haven't had a day of trouble. I've been with them since December last year and it's been perfect to me
