Description of Bad Deal:

Made contact with the seller on the 21st of Jan 2023.

We spoke via WhatsApp and agreed to meet up the very same day, before meeting up he asked if he can pack the monitor up so long, I requested a few pics of the monitor and double checked with him on the condition of it, he confirmed that its excellent as stated in his thread and sent me 3 pictures with colorful backgrounds.

We meet up and I do payment and advise him that I'll probably get to testing the monitor the following day. I didn't get a chance to test it until Wednesday as I was tied up with work and it being close to month end. Upon testing all seemed fine but I did not contact the seller or mention anything about me being happy and satisfied.

Friday came and I was free to really use the monitor and do some gaming etc. Once I opened discord I noticed certain parts of the screen looking rather weird, this seemed to look more apparent on a light grey background which discord has. To me it looks like some sort of clouding on the panel which cannot be seen when a colourful image is displayed.

I immediately message him the Friday evening and I don't receive any response until Saturday evening in which his girlfriend informs me that this is actually her number and I must contact him on his own number ( not sure why I got her number in the first place)

I then message him on his own number stating my concern in which he responds "Hi my lady just sent your messages we’re gonna have to deal with this when I get back from Langebaan on Tuesday. we also need to get a carbonite mod involved"

At this point I'm a bit confused as he does not even seem concerned about what exactly is wrong with the monitor. He did not ask any questions or offer any advice on how to solve the issue, most importantly, he did not seem keen on assisting me at all claiming that its been 6 days since I bought it and because I never messaged him, he assumed I'm happy with the monitor.

Yes while it may be 6 days later, the issue with the monitor is not something that can be picked up very easily and you seemed to have hid it very well by only sending me pictures of colorful images displayed on the monitor.

You claimed the monitor was handed over in perfect condition yet you have no evidence of that. In my experience of owning monitors, this is not something that simply happens over a period of a couple days.

@Nyt Ryda posted an update on this in the sale thread for this. It seems like it's a common issue on the monitor, and might not be the fault of the seller. @Joshmeister did you look at that part there?

Part was not checked out at his place. He sent me pictures of the Monitor and because it had colorful backgrounds I could not see the fault. I'm pretty sure even if I saw it in person I would not have immediately seen it

I get you, but if it's a common issue with all screens in that series, you can hardly fault the seller. I'd also send colourful pictures on the screen if I'm to sell it as it displays the product best. That's how marketing works.

Okay I understand it may be a common issue with these specific models, but then the seller should have not mentioned that the screen is in excellent condition. Just because something is a common factory fault, does not mean it needs to be overlooked. That's like saying a strix GPU with faded LEDs does not need to be mentioned by the seller because it's a common occurrence.

Also I need to point out that the seller has made it clear that he no longer wants to communicate with me just because I opened up a bad deal thread to seek help. If that's the way he deals with future deals that might end up going south then that's a no no in my books. I get that he might not have seen the fault as it's hard to spot, but the way in which he handled my concern was shocking; No questions, no sign of interest, no solution.

my 2c

It might be a common issue with that series of monitor but we're still talking about what, like 1-3% of all sales might be affected?
If seller knew it was affected, he should have mentioned it.
If seller didnt know it was affected (weird since I assume he was using the monitor prior to selling) thats fine, but he should be willing to take it back, exactly the same way the manufacturer would take it back

unreal that people have this kind of expectation when buying second hand stuff

No one is saying he needs to rise to the standard of a manufacturer, do warranty, repairs, technical support etc.

All I said was that when:
someone sells something that has a defect (knowingly or unknowingly)
and does not disclose that fact in the listing (knowingly or unknowingly)
he should be willing to take the item back...especially if < 1 week and clearly not a fault that the buyer caused.

Do you really disagree with that?

Yes the buyer "inspected" it before, but couldn't see the defect because of the colourful background - neither his nor the sellers fault.
But are we really going to set a standard that if I can hide something well enough for ~15 mins then tough tits when buyer gets home lol?

"Hiding" is a stretch as it implies malice and dishonesty. When I get rid of used stuff, I certainly don't spend hours stress testing it to ensure that the buyer of my used stuff has a minty fresh out of the box experience while paying 50% of the new price.

If you can't/aren't informed enough to assess the used item you are buying for common faults, you should save up and buy new items which have a manufacturers warranty.

Fully agree, unfortunately it seems like nothing is becoming of this thread. Negative itrader here we come. Please guys do not deal with this guy as his response to all of this was absolutely pathetic and almost non existent. And the worst part is that some people seem to think that him not disclosing the issue is okay simply because it's a well known occurence. Mods Please close this I'm done.
