Hey guys

Just for interest sake, is there any software out there that shows you what is holding your system back and what would be the most appropriate next upgrade... ?

Probable answer here would be hdd,

In most modern PC's, if you don't have an SSD installed with your OS and perhaps your favourite games with it, the HDD is to blame. It's slow, noisy, hot and ancient tech. We can't be without it for now, unfortunately, as SSD are still too expensive. However, if you're worried about booting times, loading times, etc. it's the HDD that's too blame. In almost every case these days (my PC included) the most obvious and most impressive upgrade is an SSD.

So yeah, I need an SSD.

He has an SSD already...remember he asked whether he should buy an OCZ Agility 3 500GB in a thread a few days back?

Hdd - hard disk drive ;-)

Post specs of your current setup and the amazing carb CUD fundis will advise.

But i am not aware of software that can pinpoint bottlenecks etc or advise on hardware

Nope. Stalker... :p

Like Mizer said Kobuspolisie, post complete specs and most people here will be able to tell you what's the problem here! :)

windows hardware index on windows vista/7 runs a benchmark and then scores each component out of 10, must likeley your harddrive will score the lowest except if the rest of your components are really shitty.

Run FurMark / 3DMark / PCMark / CineBench / Unigine they generally tell you about your system but keep in mind that these are GPU you heavy except for PCMark...but they also point out weaknesses in your system.

Cool thanks everyone.. yes zi already have an SSD, My PC specs as follows:

i7 4790
Msi Z97 G45
16gb 1600 Ram
OCZ 480gb SSD
Corsair HX650 PSU
GeForce GTX580
NZXT Phantom Chassis
23" samsung screen

I know the next thing would probably be the gpu, but I was just hoping there may me some software that would shed some light on how much of an impact it would be

The GPU will have a big impact if you are going to play newer games that need more VRam, I use to run two 660ti 2GB cards in SLI, I have since upgraded to a GTX 970 3.5+0.5 GB card, and the performance impact was quite noticeable

I would say gpu as well. Next would be faster ram, but the benefits of that are very small. I know Linus did a comparison video at one point...

I just keep an eye on my cpu & gpu usage in games. The moment one hits 100% it's a bottleneck.

From what I can see I would say its the GPU - The CPU is a good one (not great but good )
I would say either go 970/ 980 or R9 290X (and make sure the CPU has adequate cooling :) )

GPU and then CPU. RAM is fine for now.

GPU is gaming side of bottlenecking. it got nothing to do with system performance, speed etc

Well im sure I will be ok for quite a while... I just wanna play BF3 For now, then when Hardline had dropped a bit in price, I will buy it... Dont even think I will be getting BF4 unless its dirt cheap at some stage...

Curious about how a current generation 4GHz 8 thread cpu could be considered a bottleneck for gaming...

Its not the "K" version, it cannot be overclocked, maybe thats what was meant.... Donno?

Not a valid excuse. A non-K is fine performance wise. Very few titles will tax that CPU.

For the moment I'd say GPU.
After that your money might be better spent getting a kick-ass screen than on getting minor increases. from other components.

IMHO your GPU needs to warp itself into the future to a more current generation from either Nvidia or AMD.........the rest of your system is fine as is.

Yea I will look at that in the near future, then I will drop this one in my old PC so my son can join the Battlefield :)

Cpu bottle necking rarely occurs now a days, cpu overhead in games are not as much as they used to be that being said, gaming on a dual core wont be very pleasant unless you playing games of 10 or so years ago. I7s will only be put to the test with dx12 i hope, that i7 shouldn't bottle neck you until you have like a tri sli setup...1150 only supports 24 pcie lanes i think.

Gaming aside what kind of loads do you intend on putting on the pc?

Nah bud I dont have anything specific in mind atm, just to be sure Im sorted for a few years without any hickups
