Hi Fellow Carb's!

I've been trying to think of something small for my wife to do from home, so she can still keep an eye on the little ones. I'm thinking of a low startup investment (Max 2000) and something that is not going to tie her down.

Possibly you may have thought of something but didn't try it or just good at coming up with ideas.

Thank you in advance !

What sort of skills does she have?
Baking? Crafts? Photoshop? Administration?

Think of stuff that is in a shortage in your area. Offer something like picking up groceries for people working full time and charge them for it?
People need to eat, drink and go to the bathroom. Think of items that is needed not wanted

Sorry for the way long reply, I didn't get notified of your post.

She is into baking and the market is really tough around here as most people goto person is "The Cake Lady" despite our efforts, low prices and competition."The Cake Lady" still remains the ridiculously priced, but is still highly recommended by everyone.

She enjoys doing crafts.

She is not Photoshop literate

She is able to do admin but has minimal experience.

She doesn't have a license and does not like to leave the house.

Thank you guys for your input, I appreciate the help!

My 2c, She is limiting herself by not having a license and wanting to step out into the world.

Being selective is not going to help when the odds are not in your favor as an starter entrepreneur.

There are literally thousands of start-ups daily (especially non-specialised) and most and willing to do pretty much anything to succeed and failure is huge within the first years... This is your competition.

Nails. If she's good at doing ladies nails then she should get the equipment and try going down that road. I know of two peoples partners who did this and it does take off.

If she likes crafts then she can offer that as a service. For example, scrap booking classes for moms and kids. You’d be surprised how much of a market there is for such - think Color Cafe (colorcafe.co.za)
Crafts are relaxing and have low start up costs.
Plus your little ones will also get to join in on the crafts and she can keep an eye on them while generating income. No Licence required.

She could also have baking classes for kids (and moms). So instead of selling the cakes and competing directly with the Cake Lady, she’d be selling a service and the spin off is that by positioning herself as a “teacher” people would be interested in buying her cakes.
Good luck man

This sounds like a great idea.

Equipment would be under R2000 but supplies like paint will fill the budget quick. I back it :D

For a little more insight, she doesn't go out because of her anxiety, she struggles with panic attacks. This is what makes our situation so complicated. Thank you for your 2c.

Thanks for the suggestion, but my wife is not too keen on it. It is a very good suggestion in my opinion, as she can paint pretty well in my opinion.

This would be great, except we do not have sufficient space and rather looking to do something we could sell. I really like the idea, though thank you for your input.

I didn't know of a place like this, this would be great. I'll see if we can come up with some idea's, try and see if we can inter great some of the other posts above to work with this. Thank you!
