Truecaller kept indicating that a company called Mondo was trying to get ahold of me. This happened a few times last week, but I didn't pick up because I don't have any business with them.

The other day, the Truecaller ID was delayed so I answered. A female rep asked me if it was Dain, and instead of confirming, I decided to be skeptical and ask what this call was regarding. She proceeded to ask me to confirm my surname and birth year, but against better judgement I insisted that I would not share any personal info as I'd had no idea what the call was about.

According to her, my contract application for a device had been denied due to my low credit score (I've never owned any credit cards or contracts and I'm not formally employed yet). My first thought was: "dodged a bullet lmao," but after insisting that I had never attempted to do so, I thanked her for her time and put the phone down.

Now, I highly doubt any company is going to allow anyone to take a contract out on my name given my lack of a credit record and lack of employment record, but I'm just confused as to how this is possible. I've literally never shared my ID doc or number with anyone (not even to deal with skeptical individuals on Carb or FB), and my cellphone number doesn't trace back to any sort of database entry with any of my personal details.

The only personal info I've whored out are my Nedbank and FNB current account deets that I'm sure half of this forum has by this point, but otherwise, I'm utterly lost. Not sure what to make of this.

I have been dealing with mondo for my mtn contract for years. And I mean years. They helped me build a credit score. They are a legit company. Although their method of sales does seem a bit dodgy. If it was the same place that contacted you. I wouldn't know. But Mondo, they themselves are legit and not to worry about.

MTN originally denied me my contract. Mondo approved with some conditions. Today. I have 3 contracts directly with MTN because I was able to build a score.

The point though is, I didn't attempt to open one and have no need for one. It would appear that another individual attempted to defraud me somehow. Was hoping to get some opinions on what could have transpired.

Check if your email was involved in any leaks. Chances are that it was.

I check this site regularly. My password keeper also has a DWM feature that informs of the latest password dumps. I also generate new passwords quite regularly for my more important accounts.

That's a wild experience with Mondo! Dodging a credit score bullet like a pro! It's pretty bizarre how they got your details. Maybe it's time for some extra phone privacy settings?
I really don't know how any of my deets landed on the interwebs to be deadly honest. My only guess is perhaps it was my scammer messing with me.

Banks.

Likely if you participate in their rewards programmes, they sell your personal details on every street corner.
