Building a Pc for my kid

Not really a 'Gaming' system, but for a start to a 9yr olds Computer Life this may be suitable.

I have an AMD system that I built for testing and messing about that Id be happy to get rid of.

Specs are:
A320M Chipset
8GB Crucial Ballistix RAM
AMD A10-9700 APU + Brand New Stock Cooler + Ryzen Wraith Stealth Cooler as well
R7 370 2GB MSi Gaming X GPU
550W Thermaltake PSU
I will add in a basic chassis as well as build the whole PC for free since it's a pleasure to build a pc.

I can provide screenshots etc if requested

I think I have a green LED 80mm fan. And will give a decent brand new mouse pad with as well.

If you want to add some RGBness to the build, I have some that you can have. No controller or connector jobbies for it though, and some soldering work will be required. Its just the RGB led strip that I have. Also have a blue perspex case, not sure of the brand though. Has most of the bits and bobs, but two of the connector blocks that hold the case together have had screw threads broken off in them, but case was still solid when I used it (got it that way). Case only takes 80mm fans though, but have fans for the case as well. The top off the case is badly scuffed and scratched. Case and fans yours as well if you want it.

We have a case, but the RGBness would be cool thanks. Everything will go to Maximus, so im sure he will arrange something with everybody

I'm also going to be doing something special with it that will only be revealed once it is sent off: If anyone has some ideas for free programs for children to teach graphic designing, animation and coding could you please send me the names so I could load them up on a Hard Drive to go with the system.




You can see why the green RGB will work great.

I am in Potchefstroom, a far ways (I know) but I'll arrange for shipping. I will cover the costs for shipping to get everything to me.
So far I have the following donations:
1. QYV for some RGB goodness. I know Fox22743 does RGB Lighting, might be able to get a controller from him.
2. Flex for a 80mm green LED fan. Gonna look sick yo!
3. Anonymous donater has donated R300.00 to this here build! Whoop whoop!!!
4. PickleRick for a mouse and some RAM to speed up this child's future (can I detect the next Incredibles coming?)
5. MSI1104 for a monitor. Gonna need something to display all that power on.
6. Icemanbrfc is sacrificing his 120 GB SSD that would have been a neat upgrade for his lappy!
7. BARGUILD potentially for a RX 470 4GB. ScorpioMan86 has looked at some boards for me in the past, will contact him and find out if he can have a look at it. Otherwise I might just decide to bake it LOL.

So far that is the list, I do hope that everyone can get on board with this as it is a once in a life-time opportunity to invest in someone's future. Someone once made a difference for all of us. It's just something to think about.

I have a Sapphire RX 470 4GB OC. It "died" the other day and was out of warranty so just decided to upgrade instead of sending it in to be looked at.

If somebody here is tech savvy enough to have a look at why it died and see if it can be fixed on the cheap, more then willing to send it over free of charge. It is a bit dusty as it has been in an HTPC for a year or two but as I say, if somebody can get it working for you then its all yours free of charge

@Maximums_Rickimus I have a strip of leds in the media pc without a controller, the blue gives off a nice glow. I have some 80mm fans with the grills as well.


Let me know how much of the leds to send and about the fans as well.

Awesome buddy, I want to see how many fans I'm going to need but I will definitely take the role of LEDs.

Look, if the RX 470 cannot be fixed, you can keep it. Maybe the fans or cooler can be salvaged for something or other. But let us hope it can be fixed.

Your kid sounds like me when I was 9. I was fortunate enough to get my own PC which was decent at the time. I got like 64mb of RAM and a 8GB HDD if I remember correctly.

Anyway, stepping away from the hardware for a second. A couple of really great software products that he can start getting into on a light system:

• Aseprite (R100) For 2D sprite creation. GREAT place to start.
• Blender (Free) For modelling.
• Krita (Free) Great for painting.
• Unity (Free) Speaks for itself.

Then see if your kid will dig programming. Animation and modelling is great and it is kinda where I started but the money is in the tech, and you can always find a niche or something that hits both spots, like a developer working on Houdini or something. A lot of animators and 3D folk get taken advantage of. They are underpaid for the hours they put in relative to the developers.

Maybe keep an updated list of parts you still have outstanding and PM me the appropriate steam handle, I might be able to hook him up with a copy of Aseprite
