Description of Bad Deal:
Never wanted to see this section but i guess it was only a matter of time....
Been holding back because i was asked from a fellow carbie that i must wait it out, because @wastie was going to rectify the wrongs.... Anyway, here we are and it only got worse.
Phase 1
On the 24th Feb 24 @wastie posted a thread, selling his CPU. [For Sale] - 5800x3d ryzen 7 (sold) | AMD
I was first to respond but didn't get a reply until two days later. @wastie basically told me im first in line. I then asked if he had anything else for sale. He listed parts which was basically his entire pc. I asked for pics and prices of course etc. etc....
I asked if he would be fine with shipping before payment. Seeing that he only had 1 feedback point. I TOLD HIM ITS BETTER TO SELL IF HE HAS A BUYER CLOSER TO HIM.He asked me for a deposit (which is fair) and then i can pay the rest when the parts are with me. I told him im in two minds about a deposit and that he is within his right to deal in a manner that is best for him. Told him that I want to stick to a principal that i set out for myself (i.e guide for safe dealing on carbonite).
Phase 2
Haven't heard from @wastie until 2nd March 24. He contacted me asking if I’d be interested in everything else (i.e his pc) for a good price excluding the CPU. I TOLD HIM I WILL TAKE IT IF HE’S KEEN ON SHIPPING FIRST BEFORE PAYMENT. I told him i will pay when i have the parts.
3rd March24.
I asked @wastie if he’s keen on the deal (i.e SHIP BEFORE PAYMENT), or if I should move on. He said its fine and asked about shipping methods etc. We discussed about packing and shipping methods because it was a lot of boxes that needed to be shipped. I ASKED AGAIN IF HE’S GONNA SEND BEFORE PAYMENT. I WOULD COVER SHIPPING COST UPFRONT OF COURSE. TO WHICH HE REPLIED YES. Initially, he told me that he had the boxes and slips for EVERY part. Turned out later that he didn't have the box of the Lian Li chassis. At first, this was a big blow for me. The risk and cost involved is huge. We negotiated on a price without the case.
CURVE-BALL* THEN @wastie OFFERED ME A CORSAIR CX850M PSU AND STEELSERIES AEROX WIRELESS MOUSE FOR EXTRA FEW RANDS. AS AN INCENTIVE. HE WANTED ME TO PAY FULL AMOUNT UPFRONT BEFORE SHIPPING. HE SUGGESTED TO MAKE VIDEO CALL TO SHOW PROOF OF THE PARTS WHILE COURIER COLLECTS. I KEPT QUIET AND DIDN’T ACCEPT NOR REJECT. I WAS CONSIDERING IT....
4TH March 24. Shipping day.
Next morning i asked for shipping info and box dimensions. He had some issues with box dimensions but he sorted it out. Wastie managed to get a big box and offered the the Lian Li case again. Bear in mind this affects shipping costs (weight and size) and the risk involved. No original packaging. He eventually convinced me of the safety and i gave him the go ahead. Told him that if he is happy then I will leave it in his hands.
Afternoon came and almost time for courier. @wastie asked if i would pay instant EFT. To pay for everything besides the case. He offered me to pay when the case is in my possession and if its in good nic, i would then just need to pay the balance. I replied by offering less. BEAR IN MIND WE AGREED THAT I PAY ONCE I HAVE ALL THE PARTS IN MY POSSESSION AND THAT I WOULD COVER SHIPPING IN ADVANCE. I DO REALIZE THE CURVE-BALL, BUT I DID NOT AGREE TO IT. “Sometimes when things are too good to be true” was in my thoughts. Anyway, I asked for the invoices to have some sort of verification and identification and asked for vids. I reminded him about our agreement of sending the parts first. But then I compromised and to meet him halfway . I offered to deposit about half of the package deal. @wastie AFFIRMED AND ACCEPTED MY OFFER.
So courier came, i paid the deposit and they left.
7th March 24. Collection
As days gone by, I kept asking for invoices. On the 7th he offered me a ryzen CPU and asked if id be interested in his xfx 7900xtx. Just before courier dropped off the parts by me, we made a deal on the ryzen CPU and that he will send it without needing payment upfront. Still waiting.....
Anyways, courier delivered. Upon inspection, the Lian Li front panel was off. The corsair CX850M PSU was in bad shape, was rusty and the STEELSERIES AEROX WIRELESS MOUSE was missing. I also got 2x 500GB m2 drives instead of the 3x 1tb gigabyte m2 drives. @wastie responded by saying that he didn’t include the mouse because he would’ve given the psu and mouse for free (which wasn’t free btw because i had to pay few extra rands) if i paid upfront. He also said he didn't include the 1TB Gigabyte GEN4 drive because it didn’t fit on the the motherboard because of the drive heatsink too big
He then explained the reasons why. Basically, he got scared of being scammed. Trust issues. . According to his understanding, the deal changed minutes before the courier collected. At first he thought that if he add the curveball* i would pay for everything upfront (excluding case). *AT THIS POINT (BEFORE SENDING THE PARCEL) @wastie DECIDED ON HIS OWN TO TAKE OUT PARTS AND MAKE CHANGES WITHOUT SPEAKING TO ME! EVEN THOUGH WE MADE AN AGREEMENT THAT I WOULD PAY HALF DEPOSIT, TO WHICH HE AGREED AND THAT HE WOULD SEND EVERYTHING!!*
He then apologized and said he will send the stuff with the ryzen cpu. At this point i didn't want to proceed with another deal (ryzen cpu) until we concluded the first deal. We needed to resolve the issues of the m2 drives, lian li case panels, missing mouse, rusty psu. We decided to clear the issues over a phone call. We made a new deal and settled on a price. However, @wastie still owed me a 1tb gen4 drive and the lian li front panels. I made instant eft to conclude our first deal.... The ryzen cpu wasn’t paid for yet because its part of another deal. He told me its fine, i can pay upon delivery.
8th March. Shipping issues
From this day onwards, I’ve been struggling to get my items. Courier was there twice on that day with no success. Told me he was driving to them but no luck. Comms gone bad.......
For days he responds randomly. Sometimes not at all. In between he made promises of sending it via courier or postnet, pudo etc. Nothing materializes .....
On 19th March I tried reaching out to carbs community to help out with facilitating. Someone close to him. So i got help from a solid member. Thought this would be a great idea but sadly he got taken for a ride as well...
21st March I told @wastie that i had enough. I wanted a refund and that he could keep the front panels of the case and my 1tb drive. He made promises again and went silent. I gave him my banking deets but then he promised again to ship to carb member..... Eventually, he met with carb member’s friend. He gave him parts but did not include my stuff .
What followed was just more empty promises .
Anyway, @wastie is saying I got a good deal, misunderstanding, bad comms, bad weather etc etc....
This morning I gave him a deadline for me refund. He missed it...... I genuinely believed hes a good guy but I don't know. I gave him a fair time to deliver.......
TLDR: @wastie sold me parts, didn't send everything and I asked for refund on one part but no success
