Deal Thread URL: [Sale] - AORUS GTX 1080TI 11G GDDR5 GRAPHICS CARD (RMA UNIT) | Nvidia
Seller: @Amyas Pieter du Plooy
Buyer:
@OrcChasm
Description of Bad Deal: Received the gpu today via postnet, which was literally only wrapped in bubblewrap. No box or anything, I very much want to return this card to the seller but he is now banned and no phone number was supplied on the waybill. The fan shroud was broken on one part and the heatsink fins were bent. I have already fixed the broken shroud and bent fins after I saw the user was banned, just want to know if I can sell this gpu in future knowing it came from this guy or what should I do

As @clmartin1314 and @Amyas Pieter du Plooy - Same person, please respond,

not sure if banned they can still comment on the support section @admin

@OrcChasm does the GPU still work, did you test it?

If you want you may still sell the GPU in future if nothing gets resolved, as you paid for it, but I will try to return the card for a full refund @Amyas Pieter du Plooy

@DeviantCyber Yes the gpu works flawlessly now. I disassembled the gpu, fixed the broken fan shroud, bent the fins straight and applied a new dose of heat paste.

Played some witcher 3 and it was stable for the 20 mins I played.

If I can get in contact with original seller, I will definitely return it. Just wanted to check if it is fine to sell the card again even if it was received from this seller.

I am glad that the GPU is in working order. still it's no way to sent a 7K GPU to a buyer @Amyas Pieter du Plooy

Luckily Carbies will not deal with clmartin1314 and Amyas Pieter du Plooy again.

Yes, that is true. A good samaritan sent me his number, so I will try to sort it out but I am not going to keep my hopes up.

If I don't get feedback from him to return the stuff I will just keep the card, because selling it is just going to be a loss, thanks for the advice though guys.

OrcChasm, if you have time, please sent me pictures of the damages, or post here.

@Amyas Pieter du Plooy, if reading this, you should also state your side of the story.

Here are some pics after I repaired what was damaged, I was an idiot to not take photos of the gpu before I fixed it.

I did send the seller a message on which he replied asking for pics, and if the gpu was in a static bag.
He also asked if I think the damage was caused via shipping or If it was damaged like this from rectron, giving me the idea he never physically interacted with the card.

Might I just add that the fan shroud was bent so badly that the 1st and 3rd fans were making contact with the shroud when I was turning them by hand, so I had to fix the shroud before I could even check if the card was working.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience @OrcChasm, to think I actually thought this was a awesome deal and would expect great service from a re-seller.

I always wondered why somebody would run 2 or more profiles? Is it to be able to post different sales at the same time (which you can do from one profile) or is it purely to avoid any bad I-trader listings on a profile? I'm curious to know the logic behind this.

I see @Louwrie also bought one of these cards. I wonder if that was f2f or shipped, and if shipped how he received it.

@OrcChasm do you mind sending me his number via PM please. Pending deal (I am the seller) that I would like to conclude or pass on to the next possible buyer.

If you notice on all of this banned user's posts, he only allows for shipping, no meetups. Probably did this to protect himself from the day shit hit the fan like now.

I guess this is what some of the mods would call school fees :)

Atleast the thing works, I can game on it and can give it away one day when I upgrade.

@Amyas Pieter du Plooy has not replied to my last messages since 4 o clock this morning ( I wake up early) so I think he's ghosted me.

Just asked him on whatsapp again whats up and he says he has never had this issue and said I should just ship it back and he will refund me, how should I go about this?

I'm based in Durban and have met up with ClMartin before F2F when I bought a Z97 gaming 9ACK board and processor from him, the guy was an absolute gent and I doubt he would've shipped a damaged card like that.
Possibly poor packaging was the result of the card being damaged...had a similar incident with LG 25 ultra wide screen I sent to a friend via the courier guy, got there with a bad chip on the monitor, I ended up telling my mate he can keep the screen without payment.

Look, regardless of the reason for his banning, Chris has always sorted out his customers. Even when this just triggered he still played open cards with the buyers. We banned him now simply because of his continued trading even while waiting for this SAPS clearance. I don't want to give advice as an admin, but if I have to say personally, I'm pretty sure he would still sort you out, if you let him.

Hey guys, I am busy speaking with him at the moment, feel like a dog now because I am starting to regret opening this thread, but without this thread I would not have gotten his number.
We are busy talking and he says he will refund me and then I will ship back the card.

I only opened this thread because he was banned and I had no idea what else to do as I could not speak with him on forum and did not have his number.

I apologize if I made him appear bad but he is trying to sort me out as we speak, I will post any updates as soon as I can.

This is nonsense. I've bought a card in person from AmyasPieterDuPlooy. He is not someone to intentionally mess you around. The fact that he is willing to refund without issue backs this up.

Morning guys, got some feedback:

He's refunded me and sent me a proof of payment, should clear tonight as he is Standard and I am FNB.

Look, by what I have seen so far he is a good guy, might need to learn a thing or 2 about packaging though, but more than helpful even after I told him I opened a bad deals thread.

Fact of the matter is he is helping me get this sorted and hopefully if he ever gets back on Carb we can still have dealings in the future.

The fact that he's still sorting out people after being removed from Carbonite tells me he's serious about his business. I'll definitely consider letting him back as soon as that SAPS clearance comes through. It's very possible that he was just another guy who fell for a stolen machine.

Please note i said probably. And if you check ALL of his posts it says, and i quote:
Collection: No
Collection: No
Collection: No

So it is very easy to draw the conclusion.

I have also dealt with him, had issues with a psu that i bought from him, and he helped resolve it. I had to remind him a couple of times for the warranty information but it worked out in the end.

I am very glad that he is sorting out issues from his side, and wish him the best of luck with saps clearance if he's innocent.

I agree a while back i bought a 1080ti from him card was giving me issues so he sent me a second one while i kept on to the first one, end of the day sent it to rectron to get a rma unit but i used the second 1080ti until i received my new card and he paid for all the shipping even to fetch the second one as well ..Problem is he does not sit with any of the cards his business partner does all the shipping packaging and card testing....

Glad you got sorted. Now hopefully I'll have the same positive resolution with him too.

Currently dealing with him. Paid up front (without even asking) and covered shipping.
Would definitely deal with him again, not a scammer and hope he makes it back onto Carb.

Morning guys, received my full refund in the bank.

Going to send the gpu back today via postnet.

Glad that @Amyas Pieter du Plooy sorted me out. Once he receives the parcel I eill update for the last time.
If I may ask. what did he respond about how he packaged and posted the GPU?
understandable that shipping is on the buyers risk usually, but that is on another level though
