Bikers!?

Haibo

zErnKNn.jpeg

If anyone is looking, I know of a 2023 KTM 500 Six Days for sale in Fourways Jhb.

Bike is brand new with only 4 minutes on the clock. Original owner has never ridden it. Save R40000 on the price of a new model.
Extras:
Wrap around handguards
Radiator braces
Front and rear disc guards
Fork leg protector
Swing arm guards
Clutch cover guard

Is anyone still riding or has everyone taken a break due to the colder weather?

Took the 1200 on it's first gravel the other day, didn't do anything ridiculous (60-70kmh) and was rather impressed at how stable she is.
Did get a bit of a fright after being chased by a dog on the road, glad it ended well for all parties😂.

My 1250GS's battery packed up otherwise I would have taken a ride to Val over the weekend. I enjoy the cooler weather, eventhough we are not having TOO much of it yet.

With the dirty stuff, do some training if you have the $$$. I can not recommend Country trax highly enough!
Also, speaking from experience, as @PandaAttack1 would tell you, ride YOUR speed, a speed where you feel comfortable grabbing a hand full of front brake in a panic stop.

Learn to trust the bike and the riding aids. dont listen to the ballies telling you to switch ALL of that off lol

Ah, sorry to hear that Wacko! Time for that 1300GS ;)...
I do have to agree on the cooler weather, although we are falling foul of some rain at the moment.

I am planning to do some very soon, had a look at Country Trax and they look like they have an exceptionally good hand on things! Thanks for the suggestion!
One day I can maybe ride how @PandaAttack1 does...

I am definitely not turning the riding aids off, they are there for a good reason.
I found the enduro mode did help.

I went for a ride the other day. but I had to charge up my battery first. Its probably due for a replacement. Im gonna start riding with HD Mzansi again on sundays.

Working from home for so many years has taken away some of my riding time.

Firstly: Cold? What cold?

My son & I took a ride out to Potch last Wednesday for the North West Motorshow. Saw some really nice cars, had a nice ride, I had some National Service memories come flooding back when I saw the ELGRO Hotel - but that's a story for another time & place.

Lots of riding happening, just not to the usual oh-so-overdone places from Jozi.

For offroad training on a GSA the best (IMO) you can get is Thomas Bohm from Sabie Valley Riders Academy. He is BMW Motorrad accredited (Germany, not ZA) and knows his stuff. You will be astounded at what he can do on a GSA. As an added bonus the hospitality will bowl you over.

Hay Chappies and chapettes
Just thought i would do my good deed for the month.
If anyone has a S21 and they would like a SP Connect cover for their phone, i have my old one that i no longer need.
You would need to buy or have a SP Connect mount, not the SP+ through as that has a different mount..

Anyway if you want, just give me a shout!

Will send you a whatsapp.

I would venture to say that being accredited in ZA to give offroad training, is better. 😆 (Nevermind that BMW Germany themselves test their bikes at Country Trax.... 👀)

There are GS Trophy winners in the Country Trax stable. Not comparing or saying the one is better than the other. They all have their accolades etc.

Yap, just for clarity sake, Country Trax IS a BMW motorrad school, both the owner and his son (the owner of city trax) are BMW Motorrad germany trained, and have been on the scene for well over 3 decades.
They train our GS trophy teams, and last year when I did my course I had 2 GS trophy WINNERS running it.... just saying.
I mean for a GS you most probably dont get better instructors than Warren and Leonard, not to mention the years of experience from Jan and Gerhard.

There is a reason BMW tested the F900 and 1300GS there last year February, march and April.

So boys, thoughts on the KTM RC990R road bike going into production?
We have been asking for a superbike for a while.... is this it?
There is a method in all this for KTM, as they want to enter world SuperSport racing (600cc class, but if you race a twin a bigger capacity is allowed, just ask Ducati), but it has to be a "street bike" not a prototype ala motogp.

Would you grab one? do you think its saxy?
From the mag:
"KTM 990 RC R road-legal version coming in 2025.
Scheduled to hit the production line in early 2025, the KTM 990 RC R is not just a track machine but also street-homologated, catering to orange enthusiasts and street riders alike. To showcase its racing pedigree, KTM will introduce a prototype in select European Supersport series as a wildcard entry in early 2024.
Riaan Neveling, Head of KTM Global Marketing - “The KTM 990 RC R is a groundbreaking innovation for those who live for the thrill of cornering. It's for those who lean close to the road, almost brushing their knees, and then push the limits, dragging elbows to the tarmac on the racetrack. This bike offers power and prestige without the exorbitant price tag. At last, we can unveil our KTM 990 RC R and introduce a truly exceptional motorcycle to dealerships in early 2025, fulfilling the anticipation of countless riders and race enthusiasts. Our DUKE Range and other Street products have garnered a loyal following for their distinct character; we believe the KTM 990 RC R will quickly attain cult status because it excels at the two things it was designed for so remarkably well. Success will be evident on the track, but the unparalleled experience for customers on the road will truly set it apart.”

Having ridden an RC8 & loved it, I'd be keen on this. Looks like lots of thought & design has gone into making it track friendly & also more road friendly than the competition. I'd just have to see if I'm able to fold myself into the riding position! :ROFLMAO:

Also of interest - Kawasaki is handing their WSBK team over to Bimota from 2025. Kawasaki motor, Bimota chassis.

So i was looking at stuff on eBay , looking to upgrade my brake master cylinder and i came across motorcycle frames and stuff are pretty affordable including shipping from like the EU so what's the law about shipping main frames to our country?

Customs won't bitch about some having blank vin numbers?

So I popped by yamaha linex (was called world of yamaha before) and again they didnt have a demo of the new R7 or even an R1. So all i could do was sit on it. They also only had 2 Indian bikes so I guess that devision isnt doing too well.

Saleman told me that yamaha brings in so little new R7's and R1s that they cannot afford to have a demo model. Apparently the R7 is a downgrade to the R6 so ppl just arent buying it.

I went there. Great store overall but yea, not too many bikes.

The R7 isn't a downgrade really, it's just a completely different bike. Totally different philosophy behind it Makes more sense as a road bike I guess, but people want fast pocket rockets and that's not really what it is.

The type of person in the market for an R6, would not consider an R7.

The type of person in the market for na R7, have a loads of options to consider from all manufacturers.

The R7 just does not have enough PAH for a super bike.

Yea, I think if you want and really like the R7, then what you should do is buy an RS660. It's a tough sell.

These 750s got indestructible motors and are extremely low and light if you worried about the height factor @Byakugan

gents, the R7 is a SERIOUS downgrade from the R6, its a much slower, less feature filled bike aimed at the asian market and beginner riders.

We tested the R7 compared to the RS660 at MRW, and its NOT a fair comparison. the RS660 is a proper superbike, in R6 range, filled with DOPE electronics etc, abs, tc, rider modes, etc etc where is the R7 I would put up next to my wife's little Z650, and even smaller bikes, and extremely barebones.
Not to mention how uncomfortable i found it, mainly because of my big feet.

DO NOT THINK the R7 is the late 90's bike that raced in WSBK with great success against 996 and 998 ducati's.

Here are some basic specs
R7:
• 689cc CP2 parallel-twin engine
• 72HP
• 67Nm

RS660:
659 cc four-stroke (twin)
100 hp (73.5 kW) at 10,500 rpm
67 Nm

R6:
599.8cc (4 cylinder)
118.4hp
61.7 N⋅m

For attention, the MOST awesome Nitro Nori Haga on the OG Yamaha R7 (around 2000 I believe)

Why are people even bothering to compare the R7 to anything remotely related to a superbike?
The R7 and GSX8R are no where in the same league as a superbike. They are street bikes that have been dressed up.
