unfortunately where i work i cant ride a bike, the taxis are too rough, i have been hit in my car at least 4 times this year by taxis doing what they want, like just driving down the side of the trafic scratching all the cars just to get to the front of the cue and then going through the red robot because someone is pissed off that their car is now damaged, i cant imagine being on a bike.

My last bike was a bmw k100, i am thinking of buying something nice for weekend rides though

Yup, I used to commute to Kempton Park from Randburg every day. The taxis in Randburg are crazy but the taxis in the East simply don't give a shit.
I pulled over to the left of the yellow lane on Modderfontein Rd, left foot on the curb, hazards on, to sort out a twisted chin strap. Next thing I get hit from behind by a taxi probably doing about 40kph. Plastic top box explodes, absorbing most of the impact, but I went down nonetheless. Taxi just reverses and drives off. I was ok but for vark steaks really?!?

I generally find taxis to be the most courteous to me on the bike. They're always the first to move over when I'm splitting and leave a gap for me when crossing bumper-to-bumper traffic.
They definitely do as they please though which simply leads to dangerous situations for bikers, cagers and pedestrians alike.

yea i work in jhb cbd, no rules and 0 f**ks are given here by taxis and the normal drivers arent much better. It seems like people evolved their driving to fit in with the mass amount of taxis and so there are no yellow lanes that arent being driven in, often there will be someone on your side of the road oncoming and then swears at you because you are in his way and on top of all of that there are random oaks that jump off the pavement to tell you your tire is flat to try get you to pull over so they can rob you(nearly everyday this happens and i have seen a few poor souls actually pull over to check there tires and get robbed on the spot). Combine that all with riding a bike and you are asking for trouble

Sounds like that was a bit of a rough crash, good thing you still ok :) Luckily iv never been in an accident, iv come off a few times but never hit anything

Shit, never knew that. I guess I've still got the small town knowledge of crime in me (Knysna)...

Kinda off topic but...
What I have noticed, first time I was clueless but now I just laugh. Whenever I go get a haircut, I travel back home along the same road every time.. And every time I drive back home its during rush hour traffic so the traffic is going really slow. There are guys walking/weaving through all the traffic to sell their hats and other random rubbish. There is this one guy (will never forget his face), the first time I was driving down the road he pointed at the front lower part of my car, so I thought some thing was wrong and rolled my window down a bit and asked him what was wrong. I have a Knysna number plate. He insisted that I take one of his hats, I said no a bunch of times and he ended up forcing it through the gap in my window. Once it was in my car he asked me to pay for it, since the traffic was rolling so slowly I didn't want to cause kak with him. I closed my window, opened my sun roof and threw it at him through there and closed it. He just walked off. Since then every time I drive down there he points at the front of my car (he doesn't remember me obviously)... Obviously this is all because I have a non-GP number plate...

Haha, yeah.

I really envy the guys lane splitting in the morning and how traffic really doesn't effect them in the slightest. I live really close to my work, but with the traffic it adds on 20-30 minutes, that's valuable sleep time... ;)

Or valuable riding time :)

I had a meeting in PTA North a while back. There was a major accident on the highway so the hosts very kindly moved the meeting out by 2 hours to give people time to get there. Traffic didn't affect me so I took the opportunity to ride there via Breedts Nek

lol! That's sick! Sho really would love a road bike, but would rather put those funds into my off road riding. Insane how addictive it can get. :D

That pointing at the tyre thing happened to me a month or so ago.
I was in my mothers car going to pick something up for her in randburg and some random guy on the road starts knocking on the window and points towards the front left tyre, at first I ignored him and then later on I started getting a bit worried and thought "what if it is truly a flat?" I pulled over in a parking lot and whoa and behold... nothing was wrong, then It dawned on me that I avoided a possible robbery.

First bike: '13 Street Triple R

yea its rough hey, i was stopped at a robot a few weeks back and saw them doing it to an oldish lady, she stopped her car opened her door to get out and look, while the one guy kept her busy the other stole her laptop out her car from the other side .... i hooted and screamed at the oaks out my window, the one turned around, lifted his shirt to show me his gun and told me to get lost. They luckily only took her laptop and left.

I can just imagine them tackling you off a bike or something just to rob you :/
