Bikers!?

Bleh, FB Groups are the death knell of a hobby.

Maybe I should try find something international, at least for advice and such. Maybe Reddit is the place?
what exactly are you looking for? My father in law builds classics, I could find out some things from him?

Nothing in particular right now, as I haven't started working on it yet. Need to wrap up the pitbike project first which requires some money.

I'm more just thinking ahead, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of stuff I'll want advice on.

I've found that Reddit is a great place to ask advice on specific issues etc.

The forums were awesome because you could read through old projects, check stickied threads etc etc. That info is all 'lost' now.

Your most valuable resource at the moment will probably be a workshop manual.

Luckily I have two of these, one digital and one printed. Digital for quick searches, printed because I'm cool like that.

Actually I was just really lucky, the previous owner took care of his stuff and gave me a ton of spares - plastics, forks, wheels, swingarm, clutch etc.

In theory I know what to do but in reality there's probably a correct sequence to the whole thing and I'm not 100% sure of it.

Also considering whether I should open up the engine or not. On the one hand, I have a full set of gaskets, seals and engine bearings so it's probably wise to do so. On the other hand I don't have all the tools I'd need and I'd rather not kill the engine. On the other hand (I have 3) I may as well just do it properly from the get go.

Awesome. Many would-be builders underestimate the value of workshop manuals.

I always start with the engine.

Why does every adventure riders bike need to have half a soccer stadiums lighting attached to the front of it and feel the need to switch on all 24 LED's soon as the sun starts to drop.

Is it really necessary to blind every motorists on your weekly Tour d'NewsCafe run??!

They might give me the nod but i give them the finger...wankers!!!!

Im not sure... are you angry?
Maybe its because twats in cages DONT SEE US, and DONT LOOK for bikes, because you know, the road belongs to the cagers?

On a lighter note...
Got to run my GS on the dirt today for the first time.
@PandaAttack1 held my hand, and gets credit for the pic....
The smile when we were done was from ear to ear.
For the first time in a good while I am enjoying my road riding again, its different not chugging along at near supersonic speeds, being able to take in the scenery, and do so comfortably.

Looks beautiful out there, where'd you do?

Surely it's enough to ignite the spark again! Be safe out there.

Spark has very much been ignited. I've expanded a little around the midsection, but leathers and gear still fit after a deep inhale. Avoiding traffic / lane-splitting for a while though until I find my groove again

Babysitting while a friend travels abroad

Wouldn't be my first choice of bike, but having been off for 3 years now, it's nothing by grins

I had a go a while ago on the new F900R, they are STUPID fun machines, however, I also rode a F900XR to ballito and back on a road test, and let me tell you, for someone returning, or looking for a great bike that can do a bit of touring, or blasting traffic, you would be hard pressed to beat it.
I loved it so badly I preferred it over the 1250 GS Adventure, AND S1000XR.

It's a very civilized bike. I honestly didn't think I'd like it, but it feels great on the road and playful enough through the corners. My first real experience with a BMW bike (besides a very quick round the block on the S1000R)

Went to go buy milk at the furthest shop possible yesterday 😁

So this weekend myself and @PandaAttack1 took our friend @Mb12 on his first proper out ride. My mrs went with with her Z650 and its new touring screen.
We decided Parys was a worthy stop, and had a brunch at O's restaurant. its RIGHT on the Vaal river. The service was a little slow, but the food good!
The ride there all along the R59 was pretty decent, though being pay weekend for most the road was BUSY!
Absolute blast! The more I ride the 1250GS, the more I fall in love with the thing!

@Moemfie_ZA
Bike repairs? Everything alright?
Yea, just want to do some repairs on the Aprilia from a previous accident.
Want to get OEM mirrors, and proper APRC fairings for it again rather than the crappy looking RSV4F Fairings I have on currently...
Total repairs are gona be around 12-15k

Long-time lurker in the discussion section. Keen to join for a weekend ride if there are any happening, I'm in Randburg (new to the area) and solo rides are a bit meh. Please DM me if you're part a group.
Keen for some peg-scraping track action, chilled cruiser ride or even a bit of adventure riding. I've got 90/10 tyres and a portable compressor. Up for whatever, happy to go with the pack :)

Only running bike I have now is a pitbike, so if you're on similar, we can go break down together on a trail somewhere. Otherwise go with @Wacko_ZA maybe, just remember he is very slow (cheap bike) so you'll have to have a relaxed ride with him.

Congrats dude! 890 -> 1290? Lekker man.
Now for some cornering training and then we race around Zwartkops?
Close, 790 -> 1290

And definitely! Been wanting to do some track day sessions, just to get more comfy, and then start pushing
