Bikers!?

The CBR's are good bikes but unfortunately Honda client services are less than non existent., Specifically West Rand which makes owning a Honda a pita! I've recently made multiple requests for pricing, part available, new bike sales and so on and I never ever get a call back or any response at all, 2 weeks ago being the most recent and to date no contact.

The first thing to look at when buying a new or new to you bike is the dealer assistance, parts on hand for that bike and service costs.

As long as you both realise it's still all jokes, some people here take this stuff wayyyyy too seriously.
As someone who has tried to get my SO into biking many times and failed every time, I am very jealous.

You should be happier om a Japanese bike, I've heard some sad stories about unreliability on the KTM's.
There is another user on carb selling his 390 and it cost him 30k (if i remember correctly) to rebuild the engine on a low mileage bike .
Be wary of this dude, He talks big but is still very much a noob on a bike :) .
Good guy, just full of crap. :p

100%

Honda service is non existent.
KTM will sell you a bike easily enough but they don't care too much afterwards.
BMW 100% all the way so far, Well the fourways dealership anyway. The Clearwater one couldn't give a f about anything, Screw those guys.

Maybe it's just luck of the draw on which dealership you end up using?

I would assume so, it's practically the same as some car dealerships. In Durban here, we haven't really explored but the one guy at Honda my gf spoke to was clued up and helpful as hell.

Will be phoning and probably just going to a few dealerships here next week to check some things out. I am pretty sold on the KTM RC 390, but I heard there is a whole new model coming out so pause on that. R3 looks great and well priced and the Ninja 400 is more but is a really solid all-rounder bike from what I heard.

Turbo buuuusa!!!
Smells like Yammie Noob

Definitely luck of the draw. Some dealerships are utter trash and that is just the way it is.

Gonna have a small rant.

Just had a "Conversation" with a "biker" who had all his facts wrong from not knowing what desmo valves are and how he upgraded his CBR600RR's valves to desmo valves to improve his bike's performance to "200hp".
He started talking about the new busa and it's name, and how it should be changed to be more modern because "what is a hayabusa?"
I told him the name is iconic and was quite literally brought out to take on the Honda Blackbird and that the name "Hayabusa" means "peregrine falcon" which hunts other birds.
He then said "What a coincidence that Suzuki named it that with the blackbird being a bike as well"
I had to get up and leave to save my remaining brain cells from committing suicide.

You should have asked him to elaborate a little bit. How exactly did he modify the existing cylinder head in order to accommodate a camshaft with a Desmodromic Valve System as well as where are the rocker arms of the valves going to rest. Is it going to use the same chain drive for the cams ?

And let's assume he did go through the whole process of modifying the cylinder head and the cams and and and... Useless people. ( i have never heard or see it done ever in my life and I worked for Ducati for many moons) .. The cams alone will not change a single thing other than more accurate reliable timing. The advantage of the Desmo is that you can go insanely high on RPM's without losing timing. Therefore based on Desmo alone in order to achieve 200HP from the 120HP stock he will have to increase the RPM's from 13500 to 22.000 at least. In order to do that we all know more or less what modifications needs to be done. And even then the bike will simply explode as there is no commercial way to cool down commercial oil from 22000rpm without an intercooler from a subaru impreza.

Did we get pictures of the 600 or is he busy doing motogp practice on it[emoji1787] the dom is strong everywhere my friend.

He didn't even know it was shortened for desmodromic, I asked him if he knew what desmo valves were and he just said "Yea, I put them on my bike" Which is some old skadonk of a CBR600RR, the one with the zorst under the tail.

I didn't even waste my breath going further into it with him.
He asked me which would my next bike be and I just said the busa just to get him off my back and thats when the busa talk started and the entire conversation ended.

The はやぶさby the way is fantastic bike. And it decimated the Blackbird ( My Dream bike growing up ) in every way when it came out. It literally did not leave any chance out there. Up to this day Honda has not responded to this dishonor 🤣

Whoever is in Glenwood (Durban) with a fat slip on that pelts it to the beach every day or two, I hear you

@EDDYYZ37 @Sub-lime

Since I know you guys have experience with MX/Enduro bikes, what is your opinion on the BMW G450X? Seems like a nice bike to put some sumo wheels on it if you wish to have fun on the road.

I recently got my motorbike learner's and went for a test drive on my friend's Big Boy TSR250 and got hooked instantly.

Will be using the bike to join my friends for gravel riding and hopefully if I can improve my riding skills with time something more technically demanding. Commuting will also be in the mix, nothing hardcore like commuting to CBD and back.

Of course, the bike is one thing, then I have to focus on the gear as well.

Hey man, hope you're well.

I don't have much experience with BMW bikes tbh, but I do know that model hasn't been in production in a while. Google confirms production ended in 2011. So, any bike you buy now will be at least 10 years old. Which isn't a huge deal, but does need to be taken into consideration that is quite a long time. Also, I'm not sure how easy it is for you to get parts for that model. If you were going to strictly use it for road use, then I wouldn't worry too much on parts, but if you're planning to do some offroad, things do tend to break.

Something I learnt many years ago, which is something I think you need to consider. I converted an 08' WR450F for road use, it was really awesome, but offroad bikes tend to have more frequent service intervals then road purpose bikes. I then moved over to a KTM 690 (enduro model) which performed almost the same as my WR, had more top-end power but I didn't really use it for speed. I think this is the better suited option to what I wanted to do, as it could do both on and off road, I also didn't need to worry about servicing it every week or two. If you're planning on racking up quite a few KM's a week, then I'd look at a more road suited bike (like the KTM 690), but if you're going to be doing sub-100KM every week, then a more offroad-y bike should be fine.

Obviously depends on your budget, and please don't think I am a KTM fan boy...
I was looking at getting a 690 again a few months ago, there's a group on Facebook (can't remember the name exactly) "We buy ktm, we sell KTM" something along those lines, IIRC its just a side hustle for Trax KTM in Pretoria. They had some really decently priced 690's at basically new mileage.

Another thing to mention is the YouTube community for bikes like KTM's/Husky's... You can pretty much find a how-to video on almost everything. I've learnt the hard way a few times, that most workshops/dealers don't take as much pride in their workmanship as I'd like them to. So the benefit of being able to learn and do your things yourself pays off, you save money and ensure its done correctly. I'm not sure if the BMW community has this type of presence on YT, but the fact that KTM/Husky does has definitely been a huge factor why I've stuck with them.

To add - the 690 was a prime example. You don't have to go with that specific bike, but could look at similar bikes to the 690.

Don't cheap out on gear, too often guys spend 99% of their money on the best bike, and the 1% isn't enough to cover decent gear. But, I am sure you know this already. (y)

Oh last thing, @Ageless_ZA ... hi

Should have known you'd be in a thread about crotch rockets....

Hi bbygrl

Server wipe is on Friday - (new name: Rezurrect by iNv.ZA50|Missions|Airdrops|...).
Please show face, otherwise ban, and I'll also bring those boneheads you argued with here... they'll scare the entire community away. <3

I gave up on playing that game awhile ago.

Those boneheads are lightweights, compared to the trolls here. So bring em sweet cheeks.
