Bikers!?

@Cyst there's a Swartpilen 401 (the pics I posted) as well as a Swartpilen 701 and Vitpilen 701. Can post pics if you want.

Seems I didn't take of the Swartpilen 701, but it's the same basic shape as the 401. Slightly bigger, more on-road tyres. Different paint job. Normal mirrors, not bar ends. No front-light protector. Factory exhaust, not Akrapovic. The yellow pin-striping is sliver on dark grey, so more subtle.

I went for my first long ride and off-road (gravel) with the bike, and I love every minute of it!

40km loop Spes Bona, back of Malanshoogte and back up Vissershok home.

It handled great on the open road and cruised at 95kph with ease, the suspension felt great on the bumpy 'sinkplaat' gravel road.

Sadly there seems to be an issue with the stator since it does not charge the battery while riding, luckily with me being lightweight and the bike as well, my friends just pushed me to jumpstart the bike to get me home where I put it on charge again.

We did confirm the problem Saturday afternoon by stripping the bike and testing the 3-phase cable with the voltmeter where it read 30 - 16 - 6. So yeah, a new stator needed, fun times...

If anyone knows a secondhand BMW dealer for parts or know of someone who can source a stator for the 2010 G450X, please DM me. I will greatly appreciate it.

Damn, looks like fun. It's been so many years since I've ridden offroad. I actually miss my old Honda, was super fun on the dirt jumps.

Hope you come right soon!

All i did in terms of modifications was a tail tidy and removed the db killer from the stock exhaust.

Fuck me, that aprilia is sexy.

So, if you are keen to know my amateur thoughts on the Triumph trident 660, please read this month’s moto rider world digital mag coming out in a week or so.
BUT. I will say, RIP 300 class bikes. The trident is the perfect perfect beginner bike. Smooth, comfortable, ample power, amazing abs and traction control, super silky quick shifter, and all that at around 150k.
If you havent tested one yet, get down to triumph SA now.
You just cant have this one because i brought it home for a weekend test [emoji2960][emoji1787]

@Wacko_ZA You have any experience with 2011+ ZX10R's? Almost set on getting one, have always loved them.

its a Jap bike, more spares than for a toyota hiace. have a mate that races one, think its a 14, he loves it. better option. Jap bikes are always a safe bet!

Contact dark electrical, they rebuild stators.

Thanks for the reference. I got advised to go to Schipper and Sons in Stikland, only a few kilometres away from me. Will take the stator to them for a rewound.

Strange that nobody wants to work on this bike, so we decided to give it a go ourselves:

Burned wiring on the stator, there is the culprit. We took it in for a proper rewinding, so ETA is next week.

@Sub-lime would you say a bit of play is normal on a flywheel? Please see the video for reference:

You can clearly see that the previous owner rode this bike hard/did not look after it if you look inside of the flywheel:

Thread's been a little quiet, anyone got some new bike photos or anything? :D

Sometimes you just have to get your hands dirty and do it yourself!

These bikes aren't all that complicated, with enough patience they are completely serviceable in your own garage. It's all nuts and bolts.

You see, the problem with this is that I'm such a good engineer that I always improve the bike by at least three bolts. Weight reduction they call it.

It's like that in everything. Build a PC and wait... why do I have 3 screws left over and a motherboard backplate.

Oh on, new fairing kit and wait... why am I missing 3 bolts.

When they announced a naked Z bike, I REALLY wanted it and was dead set on getting one. Then they revealed what it looked like and I still cannot believe its that ugly.
And that's saying a lot coming from someone who rides a MT10.

Now I'm considering a H2SX rather as my next bike, atleast it's symmetrical
