Bikers!?

High siding from a whellie o_O That is a bit hectic. Can't picture how that could have happened

All you need is the front wheel to be pointing somewhere other than straight when you come down and it'll flick you like a stompie, especially at that speed.

Can imagine a tank slapper or a low side with the front sliding out

Trust me dude, I also have no idea. I think I put her down hard and squeezed the front brake, then when trying to correct turned the wheel and nipped the front break again.

But damn, how did the rear end start sliding out so far to start gripping again to throw you over the bike? :p

Must have been quite a crash to have witnessed

All I can do is shrug dude... Okes said there was revving screeching and I went straight into the air and landed like a dart on meh head.

Eina! Glad you are okay! Seems like it was more of a hectic tank slapper that threw you off the bike.
Crashing on a bike is never fun =D

Well except my last low side on the track was quite fun

Well i would have prefered that over what happened to me, cruising on the highway 6th gear 9000 rpm, ( Not disclosing speed due to legal reasons :p) lady decides to change lanes in front of me without seeing me, i smash into her side. Shattered my femur and hip so fun days. Best part is the guy behind me had a dash cam so i could see the carnage afterwards

Heyo peeps.

So I have 5000 km on my bike... and my brakes are shot. I know, Pads should last a lot longer than that but I clearly rode my bike how it should be ridden.
I phoned KTM raceworx, Asked for pads and they said R1400. Coolios, I reckoned it was going to be something like that. asked them to book it in and all of a sudden the price was R2800.
Turns out a pair costs R1400 per side for the front for these "racing" pads that the 2017 model comes with standard, needless to say I ain't gonna do that. found SBS sintered pads for R400 per side. Gonna get them and put the pads in myself.

KTM dealers seem to love to rip off their customers, this isn't the first time they tried to pull this bs on me. Charging me R400 to wash my bike... Going to try KTM in pretoria next time. I don't have to deal with these a-holes.

Du-hude, chill. It's got nothing to do with the dealership. The 1290 uses Brembo BRM10 pads which are just expensive racing pads; there's no getting around around that, and if you want the best from your bike then that's what it costs. There will always be cheaper options when it comes to replacing parts on any vehicle and you can't expect a dealership to voluntarily sell anything other than OEM.
The SBS sintered pads are probably 90% as good as the OEM pads for 90% of riders, but that's not what the your bike or any other bike at that level was designed for.

I'm curious about the bike wash story - did they seriously invoice you R400 for a wash?

Yip.
1000km service. they charged an hour labour to wash my bike, they also put "Bike wash consumables" onto the invoice as well. Was R500 +-... to wash my bike.
It is KTM raceworx that is a ripoff, Just out of curiosity I phoned Trax KTM today and was given a R1200 quote for two sets of OEM front pads.
I will go SBS regardless, Those OEM pads dust up the living crap out of my rims, A weeks worth of riding and I have brown rims instead of orange.

Then again, I expected to be replacing pads and tyres a bit more than my previous bikes because 144nm feels good xD

was reading some of the accidents on here and thought i would share my worst one, well not mine - you will understand shortly.

So i had a 2007 red and grey R1, with about 20000km on the clock, some customs parts but nothing too fancy, awesome bike could not push it past the 296Km mark for some reason,

Anyways at a stage my GF didnt have a car and i had to pick her up from work on the weekends, it took a while for her to get used to the bike but eventually started loving it (that was hot) well anyway one day i Zipped through to Lynnwood in Pretoria to pick my GF up, went for a bit of faster ride to pick her up, it was flippen hot but i decided to kit up, (Alpine Pants, gloves, jacket, boots, Shark helmet etc) Luckily. my Gf on the other hand new leather jacket from the bike shop and new alpine gloves and shark helmet, was still getting her all her kit. anyways picked her up and went for a nice lazy ride back home (back then it was Rietfontein) decided to take the scenic route home, seeing it was so freaking hot that day or probably just because of the kit, was a bout 4Kms from my house, the scenic route has a lot of Speed bumps, not very well painted, with huge over hanging trees so everything is shaded up. Had my black vizor down as i was going to have a stroke from the constitant changing of the light because of the trees and bright sun( was 1Pm on a saturday). anyway getting hot and bothered i was going faster then i should have, mind is drifting off i think (abit hazy to be honest) next thing i know BOOM smack a speed bump(went back to check its a Fucking speed MOUNTAIN, anyway we launch hit the damn thing at what the doctor says at least 80Kms an hour, get tank slapped but stay on the bike my GF still holding on and land, lose control of the bike, but end up putting it down on its side, and just got flying, when i come to i felt a bit heavy, see my Gf ontop of my and the tail of the bike ontop of her.

This is where it got scary for me, i push the bike off of my gf and I and shimmy slowly out from underneath, hit the kill switch on the bike and go check on my GF( well basically check on her will getting to the kill switch, didnt need a fire) GF laying their bleeding from her Knee pretty badly, and crying and calling for me. leather jacket Fucked, Visor on the helmet gone, pants and shoes fucked. skip the ambulance and by standers part. Rush her to Netcare in the ambulance, let me not start ranting about that hospital. eventually they tell me to leave because she is asleep, fast forward to 2 days later i get to the hospital and the doctor informed my GFs parents that she has broken her neck, for broken vertebrae, a week in ICU and crazy pain ( in the hospital it was more pain from her knee weirdly enough) Forward 6 months later, just some pain when she wakes up or i hug her too tightly, some permanent hardcore scarring on her leg, she is pretty much fully recovered, thank goodness. I walked away with a few grazes and scratches not bad.

TLDR:
Long story short, even if you are riding a short distance, even going slow, kit up any kind of weird array of stupid shit can happen if you lose focus on a Bike, especially when you have someone else's life in your hands.

Cheers

Had an 07 blue R1, loved that bike. Had 75k km on it when I sold it, and it looked mint.

Hectic accident though. Glad to hear your GF pretty much fully recovered.

Saw a similar thing on some speed bumps in Magalis.
Dude got annoyed that we weren't riding fast enough, passes us and didn't see the speed bump hiding in the shade. Pillion nearly comes off, who has barely anything on, and they catch some air. Luckily he managed to keep the bike up, otherwise half the people I was riding with would have been taken with him.

Firstly, I didn't know you were a chick.
Secondly, I don't think that cruiser looking thing is a R6, Surely the black bike can't be a R6 either.... Looks slow :p
Yes yes I have titties, and I called my white Harley my R6 :p

Try the okes at Traxx in Pretoria dude. Riaan and his gents make an excellent team. I used to race in their enduro team. :D
