Afrihost, Coolideas DDOS again? RSAWeb too? Who hates South African ISP's so much?

At least there are some updates in there every few hours. It's also a great place to get a laugh at the morons that are defending Cool Ideas...

I can recommend Rocketnet or HomeConnect.

Moved from Telkom to Axxess then to CI then to Rocketnet - Rocketnet was awesome.
Then moved from Rocketnet to HomeConnect (for pricing) - just as awesome.

CI was great for a while - it all went downhill and fast. Was to be expected though.
These sort of services allows one to chop and change and chase either better service or better pricing or a good combination of both. It's relatively easy.

Managed to convince quite a number of folks to try HC - and all have ditched CI for HC

I was originally with HomeConnect and they were awesome to start with.
For about 2 years they were brilliant, I raved about them to everyone.
Their support was brilliant, Phoned and generally got sorted in less than 30 minutes every time. Got a few friends on them as well. I was soo smitten with them and no one could rip me away from them.

Then their service went to hell. Pathetic everything and their support became absolute garbage. For about 6 months I had a 200/200 that wouldn't go past 10+- download speeds and playing online games were not really possible. They eventually told me that it's my physical line and I must have damaged it on the premises. Cancelled them and switched to Cool ideas. wham internet worked fine.... Well now I want to cancel with CI because after the second attack surely they would be much better prepared? And all my buddies on HomeConnect and Telkom were jamming games without me :'(.

@heinreich

Don't let my rant persuade you too much about HC.
I may have had super shit service from HC eventually.
BUT the two-ish years I was with them were heavenly, and all my buddies(Seven of them) that I orginally brought to use them are still using them with 0 problems, I think one of them had a issue once a long time ago but it lasted for less than a day. They all went for the 100/100.

Ok thanks. At this point in time I need to make a move and choose the lesser of two evils. Luckily its easy enough to switch amomg the options available. Doubt we'll find an isp here that will not be shit within a year's time.

Look, honestly I don't think they can fully mitigate the attack as it's DNS traffic and all you can really do is narrow down your list of allowed DNS servers, which they've done, though we're still having issues. The traffic is masked as legit DNS traffic, and I don't know if a way to inspect that traffic except for allowed DNS from certain providers only.
I needed to study this past weekend and the attack screwed all of the plans. Honestly it would only be fair if we were able to cancel with immediate effect due to these issues. I'll even pay them the cancellation period I just need proper working internet ASAP.

Excuse my lack of knowledge with this. Why would someone do a DDos attack? are they being dicks or are they getting something out of it?

Either. You'd have to ask the initiator(s) what the end goal is

.... Sorry cool ideas, I've put my cancellation through. F all communication and no compensation for you crap the previous times either.

Still with CISP till the end of this month, using out my 1 month notice. So need to make a decision on who to take up next. Was aiming at Afrihost before this all happened. But now -.-
Good Luck getting Afrihost to migrate, I went with Axxess, once my line was in the holding pool it took 3-4 Houirs to complete, Afrihost could not do jack shit for 5 days.

To be fair 5 days isn't all that bad. I've heard stories that would make grown men cry about some of these "service" providers.

i Hear you, but they could not even give me an update at all, i literally called Axxess on Friday @ 12:00PM, By 15:00PM my internet was connected all in the same day (didnt even accept my bribe for getting it done faster), Not sure why Afrihost could not eve provide an update.
