Hi All,

Do i need an xbox controller to play moden games from the xbox game pass for pc, or can i just use a generic wireless controller.
Gaming like fifa 2022/2021

You can use any controller on the PC. You an even use a Wii controller with a bluetooth dongle.

But, I would personally rather buy a second-hand original Xbox360 controller then a new generic.
The quality is just better.

Thank you. I am not to clued up on this. I see cash crusaders near me has some decent 2nd hand 360 remotes. Do i just need any Bluetooth receiver that i can purchase from the matrix or is there a specific one.

Xbox 360 needs a special wireless receiver for Windows. Or you can get the wired one.
The Xbox One controller (some versions, see link below), Nintendo Switch Pro, Nintendi Wii (with special software), PS3/4 DualShock (some versions, again see links below), all uses Bluetooth.

EDIT: Also, you are on a second hand site with great people and great prices, why the fuck would you go to Cash Crusaders?

whats your budget? I'm also on the lookout I can pass you some deals I may find.

for the xbox 360 controller you will need a specific dongle.
If you go for the XBOX one controller, there are 2 versions.
1 requires a specific dongle, the newer XBOX one s controller just uses a run of the mill bluetooth dongle.

There are various types of Xbox controller and various ways to connect them to PC.

Xbox 360 controllers are quite old and can only connect to PC using the older Xbox 360 wireless dongle - those are not easy to find.

Then there are Xbox One controllers. The first and second generation ones need an Xbox One PC Adapter wireless dongle to connect to PC. The third generation has Bluetooth and will work with any Bluetooth 4.0+ adapter. See here for differences between first/second vs. third generation (the clue is the bit at the top where the Xbox button is - if it's shiny black, it's 1st/2nd gen; if it's matte and the same colour as the rest of the controller, it's 3rd gen): List of Xbox Wireless Controller variants

Then there are Xbox Series controllers. All of these have Bluetooth.

The Elite 1 controller needs the PC dongle, the Elite 2 has Bluetooth.

All of the One and Series controllers can connect to PC with a USB cable - micro-USB for One, USB-C for Series.

When it comes to generic controllers, if they say Bluetooth, they will work with PC with any Bluetooth dongle.

Overall (FYI @moedeez) the Series controller probably has the best bang-for-buck out-of-the-box solution of any controller for PC. Some people like the PS5 controller but you need additional software to get the haptic triggers working correctly and not all games support that feature.

That does sound like a bargain. Are they the Xbox 360? Just keep in mind you need the receiver.

Ive had my PC Xbox 360 controller for almost 15 years and it still feels and operates great, even the rumble motors are still going strong.

Wish all peripherals were still made like this!

There are a few on Takealot at the ~ R 400 price point: Takealot
Just be careful of the Chinese clone receivers. They can be a real pain to set up.

I know OP is sorted with a controller but additional info for others looking:
The xbox one controllers (V1 and V2) have stronger rumble than the series controllers. Series was toned down because the strong rumble was also loud and could be heard on headsets. I actually thought my series controller was faulty when I first got it but this is normal. This is very noticeable in games where constant rumble can be initiated from in game actions, drifting in forza for example. The feel is not the same.

I dont game with a mic on so it didn't affect me but I prefer the V2 rumble, I actually would 100% recommend a V2 controller. However if type c is important, it is to me, the series is the best choice over any other controller (playstation, razer, msi, whatever)
