Good Day All

Im looking into getting a Dedicated gaming server PC at my house and i need some advice.

Needs to be able to run games like Dayz, Ark etc.

I need to know what is a good affordable build to do this not cositing me an arm and a leg.

Wht internet sppeds would be reccomended for a 30 to 60 slot server.

Thank you

Whatever requirements the game needs for server hosting, most cases it is a multi core cpu and lots of ram. You probably don't need dedicated graphics, motherboard you would just need enough vrm to power your cpu at max load that maybe has an nvme ssd slot if you have a lot of [big] files that get swapped often.

From my experience running a zomboid server a general thumbsuck you probably need a six core cpu and 16gb ram if have lots of mods and/or players. You might be better off renting a vps from somewhere to try out first.

That's typically for the end user player, not the server. Having said that, try rent a virtual private server with those minimum specs, a 6 core cpu and 16gb ram, for a month and see how the performance works out, then based on the results decide if you are willing to pay for the equivalent performance for a dedicated home server.

I cannot speak much for internet speed cause we have a massive line from the landlord.

For the rest. I run a old OLD i7 930 cpu with only 14gb ram on it.
And I host servers for ark survival, valheim, satisfactory and so on. all dedicated servers running on steam host.
We are about 8 people that play on the servers during weekends and we have no performance issues what so ever. Even our one buddy with his 4090 joins in and says its running smooth.

Mind you I don't run all the servers at the same time. only when we decide what we want to play I start the server up.

How many servers do you want to run at a time? maybe I can assist that you host a server on my side for a week or so and see how the performance is. then you can make a decision based on my extremely old hardware that I run the servers on.

Afraid not, maybe another user can make a suggestion. Generally any vps provider will work, costs aside the main issue is latency so you would want a vps host in sa. Not sure if AWS or Azure have a local node in sa you can host from.

This will 100% depend on what you want to host. You mentioned Ark. Ark SE has 10+ maps, thats over 100GB of RAM to host those maps. Ark SA has less maps, but all still coming out slowly, and they are already at 16GB+ of RAM. This will also depend on the player count you are looking at for any game, as RAM usage will jump with each player.

Internet speed, you really dont need much for most games, but again this will depend how much of the game files and mod files gets pulled down from your server to the clients. Most games you can easily host with 10mbps up/down, and dowt let peopel tell you you cant, because I have done this, for 10 Ark Maps with 40+ players, and no one had issues regarding my internet line speed. The problem is updating servers can become a issue with slow speeds.

You will also want a dedicated IP from you ISP, otherwise you are in for some extra work and headaches.

You will 100% want fibre for a good experience. LTE and 5G will be a bad experience for any clients on those servers.
