The game that got your started, it hooked you, changed you. It opened this new world of gaming that, for me at least, provided countless hours of entertainment on rainy days.

The first one I remember was Sim Tower. Even without understanding it fully when I was very young it caught me, and computers became a big part of my life. I can still remember those sounds fondly and installed it the other day on dosbox for another go :)

What was yours?

Solomon's Key on ZX Spectrum
Ultima 8
Star Control
Doom/Quake
Space Quest
Kings Quest
Police Quest
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat

There's so many. this can easily go into lists of games/genre's on different platforms.

But if I had to single one out specifically, it has to be Riven. I'm big into adventures and puzzle games. While Myst was good, Riven to me was and by any standard today still is the best adventure game yet. I played it over 6 months first round just to finish it, and it blew my mind.

I have to mention though, more recent it was The Witness. While the graphics on it was more Wii like than anything marvelous, the game itself is astonishingly good. I am yet to find something that hooked me as much as The Witness or Riven has.

Mig-29 Fulcrum. It came on 2 5.25" disks :)
My Dad bought it for me for Christmas 1990 along with a Logitech Wingman and my gaming life was changed for ever.
Not long after that I went half-half with my folks on my first Pentium (14" CRT, 100Mhz CPU and 500MB hard drive are the specs I can remember). After upgrading from 128MB to 256MB ram and overclocking to 120MHz I was ready for Wing Commander IV; but only if I booted using my custom Autoexec.bat and Config.sys, making sure to load MSCDEX into HIMEM otherwise I'd run out of base memory.

Quake 1 (OMFG I can look up!?) and both Dune I (RPG) and Dune II (RTS) stand out strong too.

Ah i played plenty games when i was a snort nose kid, from Supermario on the nes to Dangerous Dave on pc but C&C red alert and half life made me a believer.
Money was tight back then so games were scarce but thankfully Makro/Game used to sell demo cds for dirt cheap 😑
Sometimes I had to use my imagination and role play c&c to reward myself fresh entertainment.

I remember the days trying to sneak around during a school nights to play games🙃 but unfortunately my p2 was too LOUD
I would get caught all the time 😐

Warcraft 3

Can't say for sure, played a lot of demo's when we got our first PC because they were free :)

Ahh I remember monster truck madness, I paid R15 for that game
It included an inappropriate flash video with the Flintstones 😂

For me it was the mountain track - "The snow even sticks on the windscreen!"
...and it had to be the Ford Indigo. Thing went around corners like it was on rails.
