What GPU brand do you prefer? Just for interest sake based off ZA GPU users.

I believe I have listed most of them here, If I have missed a brand let me know and I will add them in.

This is based off AMD & Nvidia users.

If you feel like giving a reason based off your choice, feel free to leave a comment.

Your choice can be based off multiple factors for example:

  1. Price
  2. Quality
  3. Warranty Support
  4. brand specific
  5. Product use
  6. Appearance
  7. CUD
  8. Whatever

Founders if they were actually sold here, the Gigabyte cards seem to have a bad rep for the have addressed the PCB's cracking from the enormous coolers, the PNY / Palits etc. don't hold value well so in South Africa at least its Asus even though I think their warranty policies are questionable at times.

I've enjoyed the XFX GPUs I've owned, but this Asrock Steel Legend RX 7700 XT card looks pretty and has run cool so far.

You know that this was addressed AGES ago? All affected cards got a revised PCB, and all Super cards have the new PCB. Funny, I don't think one review mentioned this.

It was also an overblown issue to start off with. The cracking is mainly a shipping damage thing, also all the cards come with supports in the box so there's absolutely no reason not to have one.

I couldn't agree more, and it's this sort of thing that makes me like Gigabyte above the rest.

Hmmm, some PSUs seem to be popping at high load? Yeah, check your email, the recall notice was sent before the GN video was released.

BIOS vulnerability that affects nearly 300 SKUs of motherboard? Oh, we had already released BIOS updates for nearly 200 of them BEFORE it hit the news.

Cracking PCB caused by shipping damage (if you've seen how couriers treat parcels internationally you'll understand how and why)? Not our fault, but here's a solution ANYWAY.

It seems to be cool to pick on Gigabyte, though. They're the most proactive and the most quiet (you'd think moving the 12VHPWR connector so as to relax the bend on the cable would be something to make noise about, but not a word) when it comes to fixing things, but the good never makes the news.

Yeah look that PSU issue was a little long term though, the first reports of that was like 6 months before GN did their video, Aries from HWBusters/Cybernetics called it out first. But also it wasn't gigabyte bundling them with stuff it was the retailers. And the fault only occurred after the protection feature kicked in so it wasn't even that they would pick up initially as it was working but was a self destruction and not proper repeatable protection.

Otherwise people just like hating on AIBs, the mobos burning CPUs was an AMD issue not an ASUS only thing even. Can blame GN for a lot of the issues because as much as Steve likes to pretend he is holier than thou he isn't.

Was it, though? What is the time-frame between it being brought to Gigabyte's attention, Gigabyte confirming it has merit, and the recall being issued? Nobody outside of Gigabyte has this info, so it's impossible to say whether it was delayed or not.

That's another thing that makes it a "blown out of proportion" issue. I sold tons of P750GM and P850GM to users of RTX 3080-3090 cards as miners were clearing out Corsair stock. I've just pulled up my ENTIRE RMA history for GBT PSUs dating back to starting in 2020, and I've had three returns on the range:

  1. 750w, failed after load shedding, replaced
  2. 850w, DOA, didn't power on when initially plugged in, replaced
  3. 750w, returned by the customer after seeing the SN was part of the recall, nothing wrong with the unit but it was his right, replaced with one outside the SN range, customer didn't want it, credited

GN's value to me is their factory tours, which is something I can't do myself as I don't have the contacts, resources, or funds to do so. Further than that, his voice cures insomnia, and he THRIVES on drama.

Yeah I just remember from during that time that it had come up much prior to the GN video. What steps were taken I'd have to go look.

Yeah it's not the major issue that it was made to be.

Yeah no disagreements on that.

Interesting to see XFX near the top. Are XFX cards not lower quality cards in general?

This is what I've heard so I've always steered clear of them?

To answer the question though, I've always preferred ASUS cards, they're well built and run silently from the cards i've had

@EKD Online (Pty) Ltd is it possible to change the poll to allow multiple options so we can pick a couple of preferred brands?
Sure thing, Let's get the first few polls in then I will change it to multiple picks.
Founders if they were actually sold here, the Gigabyte cards seem to have a bad rep for the PCB's cracking from the enormous coolers, the PNY / Palits etc. don't hold value well so in South Africa at least its Asus even though I think their warranty policies are questionable at times.
I will add in the AMD & NVidia Founders edition to the poll for picks

If I'm not mistaken, you just got the ASRock the other day ? Very nice card paired with a white system.
Powercolor and Sapphire for AMD cards as they seem to have closer links than other AIBs to AMD and some special features at times.
XFX and Sapphire offer good priced cards to performance you are getting. @thecurto did a nice GPU Cost per frame the other day based off woots pricing on XFX cards. It's just a pity they only come with 2-year warranty.

First choice would be Founders Edition cards. The flow through part blower style cooler design is a godsend for ITX or mATX builds. RIP EVGA so I'd probably go Galax HOF or Sapphire / XFX.

The brands I love, I can't afford without dropping a down a tier. Sorry ASUS/MSI/AORUS.

Then out of the rest (Gigabyte, Zotac or Palit usually), I go with a good all-rounder.
Something that reviews decently temps/noise wise, is not white and is sold by either Wootware or Progenix.

Personally I prefer Palit.

I have had multiple different Palit cards and I've never had an issue with them. Sure they may look cheap and sometimes feel a bit cheap too but they are usually very reliable and they perform on par with other brands at a much cheaper price.

Generally with Palit you can get the Ti or Super variants of a card for the same price as an Asus non Ti or Super variant.

Currently I have an EVGA card and it has been phenomenal, great software and great build quality but when it comes to value for money then Palit is my first choice.

In my experience having owned high-end variants and budget variants, I would say get the one that you like or whichever has a specific feature you may want. I've been just as happy with my Zotac Trinity as I was with my Aorus Gaming X - they both play games without issue, at expected performance levels, with decent temps. I can ask for no more than that.

Fun fact. I just imported my very first intel GPU. Before this I have never heard of the brand Sparkle.

Here hoping it's quality sparkles. :p

Mind me asking what you paid, and which one it is?

Arc A310. About R3k. Just adding it to my Jellyfin server cause it's transcoding beats nvidia into the ground.
I hope it wasn't this one :p

Pallit because: Cheap

PNY seems to also be a cheap brand, but I haven't owned one yet.

Can't speak for AMD as I haven't owned one, but that would be my next GPU if there's damn stock of the stuff.
