is this the carbonite Discord or the VD discord?
Sorry, I have to ask
Oh, its the VD discord, I didn't realise there was a carbonite discord.

Been a original cv1 owner for a few years now and its served me very well (right audio issues popped up a while ago but worked around it), I was hoping to replace it with a valve index in the near future. Could someone here who has had one delivered to their door possibly pm me what you paid. I saw a price of 40k but surely that cannot be accurate?
I was guestimating around 24-5k. Will need to sell a kidney or at the very least someone else's.Havent had one delivered but it quotes at around R27k which was just too hard for me to pull the trigger at
This is via an importer who does everything for you,
Which is the argument in favour of Quest2I was guestimating around 24-5k. Will need to sell a kidney or at the very least someone else's.
Anybody managed to bypass FB login on their Quest 2?
It's been Jailbroken as of yesterday.Well someone is offering a bounty to whomever can jailbreak/crack/whatever its called the Quest. But I don't think there is any open legit way to do it.
My past experience with Amazon, when tax was overcalculated I received a refund for what I was overcharged a month or so after the package was delivered. For those wondering... the lower tax and customs charge you get when there is more than just the Quest in your cart is in fact the correct amount. So when the Quest is on its own the tax is overcalculated somehow.
What's your take on the Q2 in person - having come from owning a Q1?It's been Jailbroken as of yesterday.
There are other methods to use a Quest 2 without a FB login - I have one of my Quest 2's working perfectly without a FB logon. Having an issue with my other Quest 2 - I only have one Oculus account and theres no way to create new Oculus accounts
Was just wondering if perhaps other folks know of other methods.
Comfort level out the box is better....owing to the smaller footprint and weight. What's your take on the Q2 in person - having come from owning a Q1?
How well does Oculus Link work on PC? Quest 2 seems like a great device, although I've read that Link has issues with latency compared to using a Rift S for example?
Apparently, there are some settings that can be changed to improve the Quest Link quality (still 72Hz for now though):I would wait until the Link 2.0 (or whatever it is meant to be) update is released. Supposedly it will allow for 90hz, higher link bandwidth etc. As it stand currently a lot of people are saying virtual desktop streaming performs better but that is assuming you have a decent 5ghz router, in the same room, hardwired to your PC, and with the 5ghz channel dedicated to the Quest.
DittoHappy gaming on your new headsets guys!
I'm gonna wait for the G2 though. Hoping it lands in SA next month.

TLDR: I don't have any issues with latency and although currently not as good as a wired VR solution in terms of image quality this is improving (as can be seen with the changes to the current Beta release). How well does Oculus Link work on PC? Noticed it in the afternoon, just before putting it on for the first time that day. Since it's a new piece of expensive tech, I have been quite fastidious in checking the device before and after use. I am very confident there were no visible/external cracks after my last use before failure (there was likely internal failure/cracking at this point).Sigh, I'm enjoying my Elite Strap, but I also have one without the serial and know it can break any day now...
Did it happen while putting it on or taking it off?
So this seems to be all over the news outlets nowNoticed it in the afternoon, just before putting it on for the first time that day. I'm a mechanical engineer by profession and since I have in the past been paid to investigate failure modes I can at least take an educated guess as to what caused it.
I observed the following two things:
1) After taking the photos posted above I removed the strap and placed it in the box. Without touching it again the crack propagated further. Once the crack had propagated almost straight to the other side of the arm I lightly pulled on it causing the arm to separate at the point of failure.
2) During the above process and before mechanically separating it the arm began to show torsional deformation (think twisting a fizzer).
This makes me believe that over time uneven force applied across the cross section of the arms (by the ratchet mechanism and geometry of ones head) causes internal stress in the material. The crack was caused by the material trying to relieve this stress, which is confirmed by the fact that the material twisted as the crack progressed.
The ratchet mechanism itself seems to apply non rectilinear force, which you can test yourself by dialing in the arms when the strap is not mounted. You will feel a slight upwards or downwards force at the end of the arms when they are retracting. When assembled and mounted the irregular geometry of your head causes deviations in the expected rectilinear arm motion causing shear stress . This will cause shear failure (normally seen as cracks) in brittle materials, brittle material being material that can resist compression or tension but not bending or shear forces.
Overall my guess is this is a result of poor quality control in one of the batches.
Will keep you up to date with the response from Oculus. Haven't contacted Amazon yet since the official Oculus response was that one should contact their customer support directly...and I also want to resolve this without haven't to courier things back and forth internationally.
So far my discussion with Oculus has been that they are aware of the issue but require my patience while they investigate further. They pretty much can't send me a replacement until they know the replacement won't suffer from the same issue. So this seems to be all over the news outlets now

Oculus Pauses Quest 2 Elite Strap Shipments Amidst 'Quality Reports' (Update)
Update: After publication Facebook responded to our request for comment with the following statement: “Our teams are working hard to look into the reports we’ve heard, though we still believe this is affecting a very small percentage of Elite Strap accessories.
