so,i decided to try out volt modding, but not on something expensive (i dont have the money to replace expensive things that break...)i was digging around and i found an old geforce fx 5500 agp.so armed with a disposable gpu,i set to work, and in no time i had got the vcore mod done, then when i got to the vram,i hit a snag, there is only one pwm controller on the graphics card...which has led to much confusion on my end.the only possible explanation that comes to my mind is that the one pwm controller is doing both vcore and vram,is this even possible? or am i loosing my mind?

Well,I kind have already vmodded it,turn the pot and the voltage goes up,turn it back and the voltage goes back down.

damn its hard to tell cause of the oldness of the card. It could share the power but i doubt it.

so you did the Vmod and its working? Im loving it! Another vmodder, welcome aboard ^^.

what about that thing in the pic bottom right? isnt that for Vmem or Vcore. that looks like a controller to me

i know,it just doesnt seem logical,i have yet to test if this is the case (if it is then when i increase the core volts the ram should go up too)

thanks :)

i checked and re-checked it,it looks like the controller to me too,but i tested it,its pinout matches the one here: http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/74/74AC08.pdf
i looked and i just cant seem to figure this one out.when i look at the actual components that regulate the voltage i get even more confused, there are 2 chokes (one for ram and one for core)but only 3 mosfets.now from what i understand a regulation circuit generally consists of 2 mosfets,a choke and some capacitors and of course a pwm chip to control them.i am further confused by following circuit traces, all of the mosfets lead to the one pwm controller, but from what i have understood from its data sheet it can only drive one set of mosfets,it does confuse me as it has a pin called "fbl" and its function according to the data sheet seems to be similar to that of the feedback pin.could this one ic be controlling both core and ram?

problem is vram and core usually have different requirements so i dont think the one is controlling both. But why are you struggling to get this mod done ^^. its too hard go for a newer card haha. with pics online!

i know,i doesnt make sense, but heck i will just sent the vcore sky high...

i like the challenge...i dont want to follow someone elses instructions, its not all that complex to figure it out yourself and its more fun that way...

Nice result! The world needs more volt modders, welcome to the club!

One of my favorite volt mods back in the day was also one I had to figure out for myself. It is rather satisfying. :)
