Hi all,

So I'm looking at getting a second hand Suzuki SX4 2.0L AWD/4X4 either a 2011 or 2012 model.

Does anyone have any experience with Suzuki in SA? What's their reliability like, I hear they're very strong cars.

What's the general idea around them? I'm in two minds....

SX4 is a lovely car, but depending on what brand you moving from, you might feel that the body panels don't feel very strong.

Also, 2 of my cousins owned Suzukis (1 an SX4 and the other a Swift), both complained about the after sales service not being up to par (Roodepoort and Boksburg dealerships seperately).

The guy with the Swift had to wait 3 weeks for a part replacement as well.

My cousin with the SX4 just bought a newer model SX4, the other guy sold the Swift and bought the new Hyundai i20.

Guys I need help

2009 SX4 , battery got killed by a carwash Saturday and replaced it monday but now she's struggling to idle.

Starts fine but idling drops to like 600 rpm which is chocking the 2.0 motor. tried reseting with a friend's obd tool but no error codes.

Driving fine and had zero issues before the car wash.

Anyone that can help in Kyalami area please get in contact :)

Warmed up 900 ish

Like its not killing itself but it feels and sounds like its going to when standing still

If it's straight after an engine bay wash, check if water has not collected in the spark plug wells. I have no idea what the Suzuki engine looks like, or if it even has a normal coil-on-plug situation, but water has probably gotten in somewhere. Take a hair dryer and dry out all the electric connectors you can find.

I'll try but not too sure about this

Engine bay wasn't washed , so like the bonnet stayed closed throughout

and I've driven the car is some horrific storms and its never missed a beat other then the accessory belt maybe winging for 2 mins the next morning , the type where these fortuner tannies put on their hazards and drive 20kph in the fast lane

Car wash killed the battery? How? If bonnet was never opened & engine wasn't washed that makes no sense.

Sounds more like a TPS issue. Pop If you're in Kyalami area pop in to Suzuki & ask them - it may be a 5 minute fix. Otherwise you can go to Nathan's just up the road from them & ask Graeme to have a look.

Moron moving the car forward in the line never switch it completely off , discovered this when i got a call later on and couldn't hear the person. Phone was connecting to the bluetooth due to electronics being on

This was after sitting waiting for nearly an hour.

Quite a bizarre necro'd segue thread this :ROFLMAO:

When you pulled the battery, the ecu must have reset, and you need to perform 'idle training' from scratch.
Some cars you can just let idle for ~15mins and let it figure it out, but seems the sx is more finicky.
Have a look here: SX4 : Throttle Body Adjustment on drive by wire

My sister had a Jimmy and I have had my Swift for almost 5 years now. Excellent service, no issues. Only hear good things. Good value for money if you are not too bothered about some stuff being a bit "plasticky", but overall super reliable.

battery mainly affects your vehicle starting.
if you car struggles to idle, it's likely something else.

check your coil/coil pack. likely a weak spark causing your issues or the spark plugs themselves, but I'm ruling that out assuming you service the vehicle regularly.

if you let the car idle in the dark, sometimes you can see the spark on the coil. also, if you are brave, you can feel around the coil pack, but you may get shocked with what you find. but if you do, then that's the issue

This solved it thank you

Found another solution on the thread that didn't want to work for this car

Disconnect batt for 5 mins , reconnect , turn key half and listen for the throttle body to calibrate for 1 min then turn over

But that didn't do anything

Thanks for the other suggestions 🤘

Holy Shit this post got severely robbed. LOL

New to Suzuki, have been quite happy. BUT my other 2 cars that Ive had for a few years is an Alfa and my other car is a FIAT Tipo, so haven't had the experience with part availability as with VW and Toyota owners. In saying that there are a lot of Suzuki's on the road, cant imagine parts being an issue.

These idiots are now trying to come at me with "defamation claims"

If I am simply to remove " defamatory " statements am I still liable ? Am i even liable in the first case ?

@TheJudge will be able to offer some advice.

Glad you cam right though & that it wasn't a major hassle.

Seeing as you're in the Midrand / Kyalami area - which carwash was it? Asking for a friend of course.

Can't answer cause their lawyers seem to be lookign at me ( not..)

but since you're friend is asking its not located between the entrance of the track and entrance of the business park

I've had a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.4 2012 for the last year, really enjoying it.

It has permanent AWD and a low range transfer case with diff lock. Ride height is great for pot holes and over all vis.

Only issue I've had is the power steering fluid was old, so had to be replaced. Something the dealership didn't notice. They wanted to charge me R1000 just to diagnose it.

They're fun vehicles, with a lot of customization available. I'll be installing a 2 inch lift kit, some camping drawers and a front runner roof rack (possibly a roof tent).

Overall I'm very impressed with Suzuki's, but then again they did produce the SPRESSO which is trash.

Damn, you’re building my “attainable” dream project car. *cries in regular Swift ownership*
Enjoy it man.

I’ve always wanted to kit out a Grand Vitara with some overlanding gear and a small suspension lift.

I hope you ryou reach your goal :)

I still have a long way to go. Have my eyes glued to Facebook marketplace for cheap deals. Picked up a battery box and a drawer system for under 3k. Also got 4 All terrains and rims for the GV for R2400. Plan is to sell the 18inch rims and go 245/70/R16. The Black raptor lift kit was a gift from my SO, parents and brother. Had to be imported from the UK.

But maybe, we should leave it at this. Don't want to hijack OP's thread😅
