Star Citizen - spiritual successor to freelancer and wing commander

That could really help. I must start really reading and getting into the game. So far just been checking it out a little bit each patch.

we've got plenty of time to learn, plus the squadron 42 campaign is coming before the PU and it'll act as a tutorial of sorts. By the time you're done playing Squadron 42 and head to the PU you'll be pretty covered in knowing how the game works. I'm not putting too much attention into the game right now. I log in to look at the pretties a bit and see a new ship in my hangar but then I leave it alone for a while. I'll start learning and so on once things get more baked down, and also once they start doing improvements to the performance of the game. I hate seeing any lag.

I see there are some specials on ships. Anything worthwhile?

Have the cheapest $45 units come down in price? Can't seem to see

I won't be buying ships with real world money. I want to earn in game currency and buy it then. It's not the having that I am after, it's getting. 😉

I snuck onto a guy's misc freelancer while he was boarding. When he got out of his seat *BAM* there i was on the flight deck :p

He was jumping and crouching from shock. I took my chance and got into flight seat and bob's your uncle.... but it gets better.

So he's running around his ship while i am flying. Warp to comm array - shoot some pirates - he is the gunner's seat - pretty fun. Then he gets out to re-establish the comm array.. :D

...I got that GTA1 rush... i really did... i left him there. In the comm array. And flew around with his ship. :) Did some missions.

Best fun i've had in the game. Hope it wasn't anyone here!!! :p

My friend is playing this but he says its moerse buggy - your experiences on this ?

That's not really a good description. If you have any programming experience, you know that writing code (a game in this case) is about creating functional units. Those units need to be tested and proved correct. You go through many, many iterations. Then the units need to interact correctly. This game (as a whole) is not even in alpha yet. They have some units/parts that are in alpha. You can even sign up for regular builds... it's like the bleeding edge of where the development is. And of course it's buggy - it's not done.

tl;dr

If you want a finished game, wait. If you want to play around with parts of this during development, it's a lot of fun to learn how not to crash :p

And you guys have played this - is there a class system ?( specific jobs to do etc ) I don't want to be a pilot / Captain of something im more a gunner / small attack ship pilot.

But I do understand what you mean - do they have a release date yet ?

No class system. You get to choose what you want to do. If you want to fly small ships and be a bounty hunter or fighter for an Organisation, then do that. On the other hand you can also be a gunner of a friends ship, as you mentioned. Some of the bigger ships even have small fighters docked inside them as well, if you want to fly that. The idea of the game is, that in the end you can do whatever you want.

No release date yet. I believe the single player is scheduled for release this year though.

Intel I5 4590, 8GB 1600 ram and Club 3D ATI Radeon HD 6850 - 1GB GDDR5, will Star Citizen work ok on my system? Been looking at this game a year now when I still was on my core 2 lol. Oh and what speed should the internet connection be at minimum? Does the game load a lot of detail via net every time you play?

Anyone in Pretoria have version 2.3 and willing to share the files with me? Please. :)

MAN 2.4 must come out now. Odd thing, I upgraded from a R9 270 to a Gigabyte Gtx 760 Windforce 3. In everything this GTX owns the R9, but in SC the GTX makes the game more sluggish, whereas the AMD was SMOOTH on high settings. Any tips?

Hey guys. Is there anyone in Johannesburg Northern suburbs that can shame the latest game files with me? I'm in Fourways.

I am in Pretoria, if you want to send my a 32GB USB drive I can copy it for you and send it back via speed services. This is obviously a last resort I reckon, if you don't have the data to download the files or anyone can help you.

Thanks man I will appreciate that. Will a 32GB be big enough?

It should, my installation size is about 28GB. Just see how much free space you have when the drive is empty.

If you haven't been watching the twitch stream of the gamescom presentation, do yourself a favor and catch it on YouTube tomorrow... Cos you will be impressed.

I haven't touched the game in almost 10 months...Then fired it up over the weekend.
Got sucked right back in and now I am the proud owner of a Constellation Andromeda :D

Hi Guys

So ive stumbled onto this game very late.... I am very interested in getting this game and playing it.

I have some questions please if you don't mind answering to give me some clarity:

1 - Trying to download the game but the site requires that you purchase a package first, is this correct as I have seen comments about not buying a ship and only buying one with ingame currency?
2 - How big is the game currently? Is there only a few planets to visit, or are there alot, and do they plan to have a huge system like No Mans Sky or not?
3 - If I purchase a small ship, will I be able to fit better weapons as time goes by while playing the game or are the smaller ships limited in what can be done with them?
4 - Does anyone know when the games release date will be, or have an idea of when?
5 - What would I be able to do now if I purchased a ship?
6 - Do you start the game with your own hanger or is this something else you have to purchase?
7 - Will the game be more focused around micro transactions or not, new weapons require real money to be spent?
8 - Does anyone live in Bedfordview or Edenvale or Germiston that would be so kind as to share the files with me?

From what I have seen, and I don't want to look to much into the game, due to spoilers etc, this game looks EPIC!!

Thanks

1 - You need to buy a game package, which will come with a ship .... you can later on buy extra ships with in game currency. If you do buy make sure to buy a package with star marine as well and not just a ship. If you buy just a ship you wont be able to play

2 - game has currenty got a couple of ports you can land on and run around an buy stuff with the alfa cash, then there are a few missions, mostly flying your ship to broken satelites and fighting the pirates around them then getting out your ship and floating around into the sat and fixing it. you can play full multi player at present with multi crew ships that you and mates can go fight pirates in and stuff. They plan to release some silly number of planets as well

3 - on their site you can see the ships, what weapons are on the ships and if you can upgrade them. My ship i can upgrade 1 of my weapons so far but i have put gimbles on them for better aiming. Some ships you can put better power supplies in and better shields and stuff

4 - hahahahahahahahahahahahah hahahahahahahahahahahahah

5 - see earlier point

6 - when you buy a package you get a hangar(again a package not just a ship) the hangars are up gradable and you can buy stuff for them... like i have a buggy i can drive around mine and a fishtank with fish and stuff

7 - as far as they have said, everything will use ingame currency, you can buy in game currency using real money and use that to buy your stuff

AAAH NUU BRU got it spot on.

the variety of ships might be a little daunting at first as well as the price. BUT you do get what you pay for in terms of in game performance. The Hornet at its premium price being the best Dog fighter, Constellation Andromeda the best medium freighter/multicrew, but it doesnt mean you have to grab one of those (love the Hornet Ghost Forever)The Aurora is a fine ship to use in the open Universe as it is much more versatile than a dedicated role ship and at $45 it is a good place to start.

game is gud

I have tried so hard to get into Star Citizen it's not even funny....
My problem is I keep comparing it to Elite Dangerous.
Server lag is also a killer....

It's so pretty and there is so much coming to SC, but just struggling to get sucked in hey...

and now with elites latest beta release (they aiming for alpha release before christmas) its just getting better and better. SC has has a real threat of being dead in the water before it even reaches commercial release if they take much longer to release
