Holy Crap. Are you living in a box with Internet, dry bread and water? How do you afford all that?

Never mind. My Aurora and I will just mind our business over there. :p

Anyone currently playing this or Squadron 42? What is it like? Worth buying now?

What are your thoughts on the fact that at the moment, it's pay to win, despite the community's arguments?

*sigh*

You go first: how is it pay-to-win?

Secondly: what is your expectation when buying this?

You can pay $10 000 for every single ship. That seems pretty pay-to-win to me, mate.

My expectation as of now is that I'll pay R850 and get an arena to play around...

You can also pay real money for things like more insurence on ships and fuel etc. I'm skeptical that players who don't have a couple of dollars a month to spend on this game are gonna have to grindddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

Ok. I think you're definition of pay-to-win is different from mine. I can explain it to you if you like, but I won't bother if you aren't open to reconsider. You're entitled to your opinion. But something beyond cosmetics costing money is not necessarily pay to win. It can be. But I believe in this case it's not. For the record, I only own an Aurora.

Your expectation is good: this not even an unfinished game yet. It is modules, parts, building blocks of what will become a game. And some of the blocks that I have had the privilege to play around with aren't even available any more. Having said that, the modules are already amazing. Flying the ship has a steep learning curve so I'm happy to get to learn that now already.
There's the hangar which has always felt like your home in all this vast expanse. Where you see your vanity purchases and whatnot.... And your ship. Sometimes I just lie in my bunk bed in my Aurora and think about freelancer (the game) and the good times we had how all this will feel when it's done.

The social demo, ArcCorp is also pretty cool and gives an indication of what it might feel like in populated areas. It feels a little like Mass Effect's Citadel but with more interaction and detail, even though it's far from done.

Then there's Port Ollisar (probably spelled wrong). At the moment this is the most exciting part as its like a small slice of what the universe will like. Missions, multi-player, dogfights, Eva, a little freedom, some warping... getting into someone else's Misc Freelancer and then high jacking it when they Eva out on a mission. That sort of thing.

This tech demo that will become a game is definitely a good purchase. Even now. It's fun to follow the progress and there's fun to be had.

Thanks for telling me what I can really expect.

I still don't see how you think it's not pay to win though. If I want to spend R5000 on a really good ship, with good weapons, good shields and engines, and more insurence, then essentially I'll be able to complete better missions, kill harder npc's and other players. I'll be able to do this way easier than someone who spends R400 on a ship.

so after the comicon release video....wow.....I decided to drop some $$ on SC...

Lets see if its worth it

So you will be able to complete the missions sooner than the person with the weaker ship? Because your R5000 ship will be purchasable, in game, for the person with the R400 ship within a few weeks. I think the said those high end ships are like a months worth of "grind" so not like you are getting much.

As well as the fact that there is no winning in this game? You can't win it because there is nothing at the end. There isn't even an end. It just keeps going there will always be more stuff to explore and more things to trade and sure if you have a big ship those are easier but at the end of the day you can do all that with a small ship.

You're just buying convenience when purchasing a bigger ship. Star Citizen is about living out your space fantasies not rushing towards an end game :p

In my opinion anyway.

Iv spent around R1500. I have played a decent amount already and feel that i have got my moneys worth out of the game and the game isnt even close to being complete so everything i do from here is a bonus. I have bought so many R600 - R800 games that i played once or twice and never touched again. So as far as i am concerned its a cheap game for the time i have played, its well worth the money you put in. You dont need a super cool expensive ship (the game will prob be more fun with a shit ship anyways). And to the pay to play thing, as the ships get more expensive you need more people to run them, ill take out a lot of big bulky ships that dont have people on the turrets fairly easily.

Are people still playing this and is it worth the buy?
Also hows the latency?

Still? No, sir. It has even started yet. We're still a long way away from an alpha, but if you've followed development you will know it is being released in modules.

Yes, definitely worth the buy. No, I mean, like, really. No, like this is another level.

Haven't had issues with latency.

It is in technical Alpha 3.0 stage (youtube search Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 and watch the fantastic, live 1-hour demonstration. It beats No Man's Sky over the head with a piece of side-walk concrete and wears it as a jock-strap).
Ignore the ridiculous "there is no single player!" hype articles. Indefinite != Never. The single player is coming, the due date is undetermined.

Cannot speak on latency.

But early access is available?

But early access is available?

Cheapest starter packages are $45.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/fly-now

If you purchase one of these you can download the client and start playing now.
As far as I know any ship your purchase will get you immediate access to the MMO portion of the game.
Squadron 42 package is for the single-player campaign.

Hmm might get it later this month ill probably choose aurora and gather resources

yip, you need to go to their site and buy a game package https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/game-packages which will come with a ship that you will use (can be upgraded to better ships later on if you want)

There are a couple of features available to play at present, pvp spaceship fights and fps fights (team vs team) you can solo que or play with mates, vandal swarm (pve, group of players against swarms of ai). then shapship races which is really awesome. Then there is the open world which has a few ports you can visit, a full working space station then a couple of saterlites and stuff that you get to do missions and fight pirates or other players both in spaceship and first person with guns and stuff.

On a bonus note a really big new patch launches today which has some cool stuff (12v12 fps games and stuff)

They realese new ships to fly often and often let you test out ships you dont own

I play quite a lot because its like having a bunch of games in one, however it is still in alpha and the netcode isnt quite at its greatest so the server can have quite a bit of lag which causes bugs like getting stuck in your ship and stuff

Can i become a trader currently? I want to grind enough to get a better spaceship

I was actually watching the video clips from there site about release date. Can n fly around and mine stuff at the moment or is this just pvp and pve like drop in and kill or be killed no chilled space travel?i KNOW its coming and there is going to be a squadron 44 and fps mode this is gonna be the greatest game ever created has everything a person will wanna do :)

Just like any MMO based game you get dicks and cool players. SC unfortunately has dicks, most of them on these free pass weekends and such, then I normally steer clear. The server is not yet optimized, so here and there expect jerky gameplay.

there is no mining at present it will be with one of the next big updates along with farming and all sorts of stuff.

there is chilled space travel where you can fly around, there is quite a decently large area that is "gun free space" where you cant shoot and you can fly around and run around and stuff and then there are missions that are kinda pve (you can shoot other players but because you are in governed space the penalty for it is basically not worth doing it at present so people dont kill other people). Then there is a port that is outside of this space which is a free for all

here is a link to whats coming https://robertsspaceindustries.com/schedule-report .... if they get all this right its going to be insane

and dont expect anything more then 20-30fps no matter how beastly your machine is.

Optimization will only be done before final release.

linki?

all i know about is 2.6 being release hopefully next week

So is there no way to grind moola currently?

If you want that now Elite Dangerous is waiting for you. If you are prepared to wait Star Citizen will have it. BUT grinding in SC does not sound easy, you have to watch a number of things while grinding or get NPC or other players to help.

so i am trying to purchase the game must i chose one of the ships and then the game is just $15+($45 for ship ) ?
