Description of Bad Deal:
So I wanted to buy a GPU from this guy @quintinwest.
On Tuesday 6 April I sent him a pm, he gets back to me the next day April 7th and says he sold the gpu in the ad but that he has another (MSI 1080ti armor oc). He sends me a bunch of pics and I'm happy with it so I pay him for the card incl shipping for postnet, this is the afternoon 7 April.

He said he will go to postnet the next day 8 April, doesn't do it. Eventually he gets back to me and says he will do it Friday morning 9 April, doesn't do it and doesn't even get back to me.

10 April I phoned him probably a few times and he eventually sent me a message, that he will call back in 5 min, that's the last message I got from the guy that day.

I phoned him (8 Times) and sent him messages on the 11th of April and eventually he sends me some messages asking me to call him later and that he knows I'm pissed. I messaged him and called the evening of April 11 and nothing.

This morning at 8:30 the 12th of April I send him a message and call him a bunch of times till he replied, Says he will call right back, I spent half an hour trying to get this response and have to start work in the next 3 min so I cant wait. I tell him I will call at 9:30. I call at 9:30 consecutively (only possible way I can hope to get a response from him now), he tells me he is waiting for his uncle and then some message I cant quite understand.

@quintinwest has been messing me around for the past couple of days now giving me a bunch of promises that he isn't delivering on, no excuses, doesn't explain why he isn't doing it, Ignores my messages unless I call him consecutively till he does and he isn't shipping me my GPU I paid for on the 7th, 5 days ago.

UPDATE: So i got a picture from him just now that he got it taken to postnet. And so i called postnet to verify that the gpu was there and they opened my parcel and there was just an empty box inside another box. I have the pictures from postnet who also has a video of them opening the parcel. I told him that if i don't have my cash by 12pm today then I am going to saps.

I have screenshots of our conversations that I can post of our whatsapp conversation if that is needed.

All in all this has become a real shitshow. Spoke to my bank to help me with it as well to track my cash if he doesn't pay me.

Refund or not you need to open a case. These guys do it once and will do it again... He clearly intended to scam by sending an empty parcel in the first place!
 
Update: I just came back from SAPS here in Rondebosch and the Captain there phoned @quintinwest and told that he had till this afternoon to pay me back. I will go back to SAPS again at between 3 and 4 to open the case.

I also spoke with Postnet who have a security video of him buying an empty box from them and then getting it ready for posting. They said they will send it to me incl the video of them opening the empty parcel. Only reason I asked them to open it for me was because the dimensions where weird. MSI 1080ti armor is 29cm not 26cm.

@quintinwest also acknowledged what he did in our conversation.

It would still be far better for him at this point if he pays me back my cash before 3pm today.
 
Kinda scary that postnet would open a parcel, even if the right person did ask. Or did they only do it because you contacted them from the number that was given them?
 
I contacted from my number which was given to them. They recorded it on security when he packed it putting a empty ram box in a big box he got from them and when they unpacked it. They sent me the footage as well. I called them and asked them to open the package and confirm its content for me.

Couriers have every right to open a parcel if they have any suspicions. It is in all of their T's and C's. I do not necessarily agree with it, but they do reserve that right.
 
Update: Spent my entire day yesterday speaking to saps, the banks (capitec and FNB) and also postnet trying to figure out what the best course of action would be to get my money back, also I have been gathering security footage and extra evidence of the whole mess.

I went again to saps yesterday evening and spoke also to the Captain, I didn't get my money last night and so far haven't received my cash this morning either, even though @quintinwest has been begging and pleading that he would pay me back.

I wanted to avoid pulling saps in with an official case till now. My day is looking busy and when I have time probably around 12 or 1 today I will go back to saps to open a case against @quintinwest, get a signed and stamped affidavit and take those to the bank to see if they can salvage any of my cash.

Will update again later today.
 
Update: I just got notified a few minutes ago that he paid the majority of what he owes me directly into my account (Seems he wanted to call me while i was with a doctor so i couldn't answer. After that I was then only first made aware of it by the Captain here at the Rondebosch PD sending me the proof of the payment he got from @quintinwest, which I can confirm he did do after looking at my account). Though we did agree on much earlier this morning for him to pay me back, this is at least a good step forward.

I had initially contacted Capitec on Sunday and it seems they got fnb to block his account yesterday. So I will need go to saps to get an affidavit (explaining the situation) for capitec and fnb to assist me in having him pay me the rest and unblock his account.
 
Hope you get things sorted out completely OP.

I think behaviour like this should warrant a ban or at least further investigation into possible punishment for dodgy sellers. If there is clear video evidence of the seller trying to ship an empty box, then that's clearly a scammer... even if they have been on carb for years with several concluded sales under their name.

Imagine somebody new to carb sees something they want to buy from a seller like that. They see the account age and itrader and think it's safe, then this shit happens to them. It destroys confidence in the platform for a lot of people.

Still sucks you had to go through this much effort just to get what is owed. Hopefully you get it all back and this thread serves as a notice that the seller is not to be trusted.

I do actually have security footage of him putting an empty ram box into a new box he had bought from postnet before sealing it.

The waisted time, the stress and effort. Man I'm so tired of the bs @quintinwest caused me.

On a side note his bank is still frozen and I'm seeing that it gets undone soon so that he pays me back the rest that he owes.
Once he is able to, any more funny biz from him and I'm gonna have a damn fieldtrip.

Update: So I got @quintinwest bank frozen at around 3pm. He is once again waisting my time as he was meant to pay me back as soon as it got unblocked. He has started to ignore me once again. He still owes me a large sum of money. I dont know if I can get any more pissed at this point.

@Toxxyc I don't think that @quintinwest will reply to this thread, also he hasn't sorted it out yet. If you have anything that would help me out then I would be very grateful for it sir.
 
I can supply you with SOME info, but it won't be everything and it won't be posted publicly. I don't want to risk doxxing people without need or cause, so send me a PM if you want me to see what I can dig up.

His definitely up to shit. I was the one who bought his 1080ti armor which he sent and thank God it arrived safely and all was well. He then said he has a Ryzen setup for sale at a good price which I bought and he hasn't sent that so I'm basically in the same boat as the OP. I have his parents work address and contact details if that could help
