Hi guys,

Hoping someone can assist.

I have a fairly old combo I am testing and having an issue whereby the system boots up after shutting down.

I have the same result when shutting down within Windows or pressing down the power button on the motherboard.

The combo seems to shutdown as you would expect, but powers back up a few seconds later. The only way I am able to switch it off and keep it off is to hold the power button.

I have updated the BIOS, checked various settings, but getting the same problem.

Any ideas?

The combo is a MSI Z68, i7 2600 and 8GB RAM running Windows 10 Pro.

Thanks for reading, any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards,.
Rory

Try to unplug the case power switch and reset switch. Then power down from Windows. Let us know
Hi Bud,

Thanks for responding.

The board isn't installed in a case at present, I just have it connected to the PSU. Nothing is connected to the front panel connectors.

The board has an onboard power and reset switch, however if I shut down within Windows or press the power button, the system shuts down completely, but boots up a few second later, see photo for reference.

I’ve had an issue with power management settings in windows once. Will see if I can find which one it was.

Edit:
I’ve deselect this option in power management setting.
Turn on FastStarup (Recommended)

This probably won't help much, but I had a similar case a few years ago. A power surge damaged my motherboard and after that it would also switch itself on after being shut down. In that case it was a 3rd gen socket 1155, so similar period. It might be worth testing to see if it is something similar. The surge also blew the usb 3 ports on the board.

I will try using different components and Windows 7.

I suspect it may be a hardware issue as I have tried changing all the settings suggested within Windows 10.

Thanks for the help :)

Does the lan port on that mobo work ?
Hi Patrick,

I will test the LAN and all the other ports. If I don't come right I will ship it to you with some other boards I have.

Thanks for the help...

Try a different PSU?
Yes yes, I know I say that for everything, but I once had a PSU that was dody like that ok?!
My PSU recently gave up the gost. But a month before exiting stage left, my PC also started up all by itself after soft shutdown via Windows or using the case power button. So you may be quite right: CHANGE THE POWER SUPPLY!

Hi Rory,

The reason i was asking about the lan port is because i have come across with a faulty lan port that causes the same issue,
In most cases, the lan port will be non functional or have the orange light on even if there is no lan cable connected to the port.

Check if the last power state in the bios isn't enabled, or it's set to stay on.
