Hi Guys

I have a 2023 Asus M16 laptop. Recently I decided to add a 2TB Nvme drive to the second slot inside the laptop, giving me a total of 3TB.

After installing the SSD and screwing the back panel on the laptop wouldn't power on. I plugged the laptop into the charger and then it started fine. The laptop would then only start up occasionally when not plugged in. Unplugging it as soon as it's booted is fine, the laptop stays on.

I can either power it through the main power connector or even using a power bank through one of the USB C ports to get it to turn on. I then immediately disconnect power as soon as it's booted if I don't need to keep it connected.

Any suggestions what might be the issue?

Looks to be a common issue without a known fix

Quick Google search shows many similar instances. Embarrassing coming from Asus in 2024…

Could be a sleep issue maybe? Check BIOS for power options as well as disabling fast startup in Windows maybe (if you use it as your OS)

Thanks a lot.

Seems like its more model specific than an issue with adding the SSD. It only started happening after i installed the second drive so i assumed it was that.

And yeah, quite shit considering this laptop retails for over R50k.
