Good day carbies. I'm a bit clueless here.

I noticed yesterday that one of my ram sticks was not picked up by task manager or bios, so this is what I did:

* Reseat both sticks. Original slots
* Pc boots up, but only one ram stick is still detected (slot A according to bios).
* swop ram sticks

Since then, my PC is not booting. Pressing power causes:
* lights on, fans spin, no beep codes, black screen

This is what I've tried:
* redo all power connections: mobo, gpu, cpu
* remove and replace cmos battery
* reset cmos using header
* try ram stick one in slot a then b and ram stick two in slot a then b individually. no configuration posts
* I added in a motherboard speaker. When I power it on, there are no beeps but still a black screen.
* Took whole system apart except for cpu and fan since I don't have paste
* I plugged out ram and gpu both. Pressing the power with just the cpu and its fan gives the same result. Black screen no speaker beeps

The motherboard has leds for cpu, dram, vga and boot. Only cpu turns on when i press the power button. Manual does not give info on meaning.

MB: Biostar B660 gtn
RAM: XPG Dazzle 2x 16gb 3000MHz

The system has been working since I built it in December.

I assume motherboard failure (biostar isn't exactly the most premium). I could test the ram and gpu in another pc, but I am slightly scared of causing damage to the other motherboard.

Any advice?
Is it worth buying thermal paste to reseat the cpu also?

I know you said the rams worked but not after swapping them.
I've had an issue where the RAM speed did not match the board speed.
Getting correct RAM that corresponds to the motherboard, is what solved it for me on 2 separate builds - symptoms were the exact same as you explained.

Wouldn't the fact that it has worked since december rule this out?
Thanks for the input

Get some paste.

Take out the cpu, start without that too and boot, then reseat and boot( no need for cooler/paste yet) without ram/gpu. If you still get no post codes you might have a serious issue.

Also, specs?

Reset the ram again, clear CMOS , take out the battery put it in your mouth for 5 minutes to discharge the current and put it back , it should start right up!

I'll see what happens with just mobo and nothing installed.

Well, essentially nothing should happen, but it does reset the motherboards knowledge of the installed cpu, so when it is reseated something may happen.

not necessarily.. I was working on a friend's pc - had 4 ram sticks and the pc worked... I took them out but didn't check the order, it would not boot after i put them back.. i did some research on the board (it was an older board - ddr3 rams) The manual referenced 1600MHz but he had 2400MHz in there.. Luckily i had spares - I changed out his RAM for my ram and it booted first time and every time after that.

Thanks. I tried without cpu. (MB only) and still no beeps; same mb LED behaviour. the speaker is confirmed to work.
tried with ram and gpu again after cpu reseat to no avail.
I assume that makes MB fault very likely

that's interesting... website actually says Supports 2-DIMM DDR4- 1866/ 2133/ 2400/ 2666/ 2800/ 2933/ 3200/ 3600(OC)/ 3800(OC)/ 4000(OC)/ 4133(OC)/4333(OC)/ 5000+(OC) up to 64 GB Memory

(No 3000Mhz??) will try other ram

This shouldn't matter. Ram can always be downclocked. Also, the fact that it supports higher speeds means it is very likely to support 3000mhz as well, but it is odd.

The idea was, and perhaps I did not clarify well, first without cpu, then with cpu only to see if you get post codes.

From your description of the problem it seems to me you have a very rare case of catastrophic ram failure. I think your ram failed, which damaged the ram slot. When you put it into the other slot the same thing happened to that slot. Unless you know which ram is the bad one, I would not try putting them into another motherboard as the same thing may result. There should be no issue with the cpu and gpu.

If you get no post codes with the cpu installed, the problem is either cpu or motherboard.

yeah no you were clear that's what I did thanks.

So since I get no POST codes in any config and the cpu is very unlikely to be the problem:
the mobo is almost definitely not 100
the one ram stick is likely gone and the other ram stick maybe too.

I think I'll try my luck with sending both mobo and ram under warranty and just tank the shipping costs if something ends up being working.

Thanks again.

Have you tried your RAM in another board to see if it's the ram or the board? Could be an easy elimination
