Gaming FPS drop

Thanks bud, I have disabled Superfetch as I am using SSD - Both the games and windows are installed on the SSD.

When I googled average temps of the card it does seem low in comparison to what other people have recorded online.

I haven't looked too much into VSYNC but yesterday I actually turned it on and I see it also locks the FPS to 60 - It actually seemed a bit smoother but I have been advised to turn it off before so was just testing it out. On MW3 I see FPS can be locked in the menus, in game etc so I locked it to 85 FPS initially but down to 60 FPS to match the monitor. Forza when playing online locks to 60 FPS due to the game, offline it sits around 100 FPS but does drop here and there not too badly though, only once it trips itself out and jumps to 100% utilisation then it drops to 40 FPS until I switch apps.

I will have a look regarding VSYNC globally as I am not sure if it is disabled there tbh, thanks will test this tonight.
Based on what you said you probably don't have it on globally, which is good. For shooters a frame cap is better than vsync, it still helps reduce tearing but the input lag is not as bad as with vsync.

85 fps cap would be silly, 90 would be better, multiples or halves of your monitor's refresh rate will help reduce tearing, so 90 is 1,5 times your refresh rate, with 85, you will introduce tearing somewhere as your monitor will be grabbing a fraction of a frame sometimes.

But so far I agree with the others, everything is pointing to software, hope you get it sorted.

The 2060 Super and 5600G are both still very capable, it more so seems like a software related to me as well.
DDU to get rid of all drivers and reinstall everything maybe.

Id also consider a windows reinstall and checking task manager for anything else that could be taxing your CPU.
Like I say I'm no expert but I've done some research before building the PC and from what I understand to run 80 FPS @1080p and medium/high settings basically, it should be sufficient.

I think a fresh start is going to be the answer by the looks of things, thanks bud.

I’ve had issues with some RGB software cause FPS issues too. NZXT cam especially

Howzit man, this is very interesting, the calculation. I have not considedered this and maybe overlooked it.

Essentially I believed if I had a 60Hz monitor I would lock my frames to 60 FPS. In terms of screen tearing I have only noticed it on the big map when parachuting in for the first time there is a bit of screen tearing, thats the only bit I have noticed but Ill definitely look into this as well. Thanks man, yea hopefully can get it sorted soon.

Hmm this is also something I may have overlooked, I have RGB software (iCUE and MSI Mystic lighting) one essentially for the LEDs on the MB (they are not even noticeable tbh) and the other for the RAM sticks. The balance of RGB is controlled by a controller as well as the tower itself (thanks @goldfritter for your advice on a previous post). Thanks maybe this could be causing an issue I did not think of that.

Hence why I said to disable vsync...

I'm still rocking 60Hz but run around 120fps with competitive shooters. But I agree, probably a software issue. The 100% CPU Spike is unusual.

I was playing something less demanding and had the frames capped, this caused my driver to keep my GPU memory at its lowest state, causing heavy stutters, I disabled the lower states and the game ran fine, re-enabled the lower states and capped the framerate a bit higher and the problem was solved, I'm on AMD yes, but NVIDIA has similar "performance" or power levels, I could imagine that some bug is causing it to stay in the lower levels instead of maxing out the core and memory clock speeds. As for the spikes in CPU usage, switching apps can have that effect sometimes.

One last thing @Vanjs06 I know you said you disabled the iGPU, but it may still be allocating RAM for it, go into your BIOS and check that the iGPU memory is set as low as it can go, you probably had it set to 2GB before you got the discrete GPU, that means your available system memory would be 14 and not 16.

Hope you get things sorted ey.
Sorry I missed this reply, will have a look at this also. Thanks Man

Appreciate all the responses everyone thanks alot!

Will test out this evening/tonight and give some feedback.

RAM speed? I always advise to make a new user profile and try replicate the issue there. If it replicates it could be h/w or s/w / drivers. If it doesnt, then likely your Win User profile is corrupt.

I'd also look at using DDU to completely remove your CPU driver, and reinstall the driver from scratch. YT is your friend here :)

Reviving this post after some time, sorry been a bit busy lately.

Long story short I pretty much tried all of the above, and basically in the end a fresh install of windows seems to have done the trick. I haven't spent any time fine tuning any settings just basic ones on MW3 and it runs now around 100fps but does drop quite a bit to 80fps at times. But I need to sit and fiddle a bit but overall no issues like before so far.

I have been installing apps one by one and just watching for any issues as I go along. One thing I have noticed is that the CPU seems to run a bit hotter than before now at around 70 - 72 degrees (used to sit around 64 - 67 degrees) - but it makes sense as now with windows refreshed it is actually using the CPU properly. An aftermarket cooler will come next for piece of mind.

Haven't really tested as thoroughly as before and have minimal on my PC now, but I can see a definite improvement.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions.

80-100 fps variance is normal.
Two friends had performance issues on Warzone when they ran discord at the same time. So might be an app to watch out for.
