Hi. I recently assembled a pc for my wife and noted now with loadshedding stage 6 that the pc is using same amount of power when off as with idle mode(can see this on the inverter). Anyone that perhaps knows whats causing this or where to start trouble shooting.

Much appreciate any feedback

The power supply is still drawing current, if you want that to go away you have to unplug it. Also, the inverter's measurement is not going to be pinpoint accurate, it isn't a precision measurement instrument.

Lastly, the inverter is an electrical device. It will have current draw of its own.

Just to give an example, not sure how to upload a image. On the left on the inverter under load if nothing is plugged in then it shows load zero. When I plug in the pc thats shut off its showing about 200. Might be that my inverter needs a service

Does the inverter sometimes inexplicably trip?
My inverter had that and sometimes would randomly trip.
I thought it was faulty until my PSU had a massive flashover inside one day.

Have not noticed that it tripped

Unplug the PC and everything else, if the usage remains then it's as @gavin286 says and it's the inverter circuitry

Thanks. Please see above message, if I unplug everything inverter shows 0 load. When i plug in the off pc it jumps to 200. Please note that my pc is also plugged in and load still zero when wifes pc is plugged out

200 might be its minimum reading. Some of the cheaper ones will read anything below a certain number as either zero or the lowest number they can read. Is it draining the battery as you would expect from a 200w load?

If you don't shift shutdown a windows pc it goes into a hibernate state and doesn't fully switch off anymore. Could it be that at all? It would be pulling a tiny amount but it still pulling something Vs a full shutdown.

Yes it seems like it is draining the battery

Hmm - is it indefinitely or does the load reduce to 0 after a certain time. Dodgy PSU with dodgy capacitors perhaps? I'm assuming the weirdness doesn't happen with any other type of load?

Thats correct doesnt happen with my pc when off. It is a new corsair power supply. The load does not drop

Yeah, I think the inverter is reporting correctly. I do not see a way it will misbehave with some but not others.
It won't hurt to confirm, though.
Could be the EMI Supression caps are dodgy.

Okay so just tested it. I plugged in my pc and on idle load was 150. Plugged in my wifes pc that is off and it was running at around 170 load. So not sure whats going on but seems like its fine. Just not sure why when only her off pc is plugged in that its running on 200 lol
