He was banned, your friend definitely got scammed.
Write this off as school fees.

Should always try various ways to verify if someone is a legit buyer/seller on every platform before proceeding with a deal. On Carbonite, you can ask the buyer/seller if someone can vouch for him/her if there isn’t any iTrader feedback to reference off of or you can do face to face deal. If the person lives too far then see if you can get someone close by to assist with the deal and then compensate them for the trouble. Many ways to avoid getting scammed… Hate seeing scammers get alway with this.
