Hi everyone,

I am having a super annoying issue at the moment with my displays.
First off, I am running a Gigabyte GTX 960 4GB G1 Gaming which has plenty ports to support my monitors.
The Displays:
1 x LG W2343 (23inch)
2 x LG W20M35 (20inch)

The Dodgy Part:
I cannot afford amazing screens therefore I am using adapters to get them to run off my GPU which has no VGA. So for the one W20M35; I am using a VGA to DVI adapter. For the other, I am using a VGA to DisplayPort adapter (active).

The Issue:
Let me start by saying that it was working before just fine then I moved my PC and cannot reproduce it. Basically when I plug my 23inch in via DVI, it works. I plug my DisplayPort-adapted screen in, it works. But as soon as I plug the them in at the same time; the DP turns off and says check signal cable. It does this regardless of which one I plugged in first. The screen running the VGA/DVI adapter has no issues whatsoever which leads me to believe it is a digital issue. Another thing pointing towards the adapter and the digital signal is that I tried the "non-working" screen using the VGA/DVI adapter and it worked fine. So I think that somewhere and somehow, the DVI and DP signals are conflicting.

What I have tried:
- Restarting PC
- Checking Display Settings (Tried "Detecting" - nothing)
- Enabled High Performance in Power Options
- Turned PC off, unplugged everything and booted with just DP then shut down and plugged in DVI and started up again. Did the same by starting with the 23inch DVI.
- While the PC was on, unplugged everything and plugged them in one by one in all configurations.
- Changed cables and checked power
- Tried all the different ports on my card
- Reinstalled GPU drivers
- Tried the adapter on a different screen.

I know that it is a pretty mishmash combo and it does not seem like it would work; but the thing is that it was working before I moved my PC. I just cannot remember what I did last time to get it working because there WAS a way.
Any help would be appreciated :)
Cheers

What if you us an adapter for the main screen, it's cable to the one W20 and the other adapter for the 2nd W20? To me it sounds less like a signal conflict and more like the one W20 is identifying as the other with only the one with the superior cable configuration allowed to be on.

Could be that your card can only run either two dvi or just one display port. Not one of each.

But according to OP it worked before his PC was moved.

Hmmm...Might be a windows setting but it's hard to say.

Does your Mobo/CPU configuration have onboard video output? If so enable it in BIOS and try with that as well (ie get the two screens working on the card then try the 3rd on the mobo)? If the same issue persists then i think you could at least rule out graphics card, which would mean its a software/settings issue...?

Agreed. I have checked all my Windows settings and nothing seems to have fixed it. I am in the middle of a print right now but after that, I will be clearing my CMOS (suggested by a friend - no harm in doing it) and trying again. Then will try the Motherboard output as I do not game on the two W20s but only on my W23.

I think I can confirm this because I just plugged the DP in again to check - with no avail - however I then plugged my DVI (W23) in and it would not let me adjust the resolution above 1600x900 (the res of the W20)

The annoying thing is that it was working fine but I remember that there were a few steps that I needed to take in order for it to work last time. I just cannot remember them. Typical.

I agree that clearing CMOS can't hurt as long as your comfy with fiddling with Bios (it may jumble up your boot order etc.)and you not worried about having to OC again

If you do fiddle around a bit with settings, try fiddle around with the scaling settings in Nvidia control panel, like change between GPU and display scaling and aspect ratio/fit to screen etc.

1 x DVI-I...try to stay away from that one with any adapters.
Thw screen going to DVI-I is the one running from the VGA/DVI adapter and is the one never giving issues.
The issues are coming from DVI-D for the W23 and the DP for the W20.

I will give HDMI a go now.
Thanks for everyone's help so far.

Okay, update:

I tried the W23 in the DVI-I port and suddenly the W23 AND the DP W20 worked but the adapter for the VGA/DVI-I does not fit into the DVI-D slot.
However...

I managed to find a DVI-I to HDMI adapter and plugged it in, suddenly everything works. Thanks DoDo , this worked for me and I guess it is not a huge issue. Just another adapter amongst my many xD
Thanks Mast3rBlast3r for your help too :p Everything is working now so I am not going to touch it or do anything different xD

Obviously I would like to still find out why it suddenly stopped working but it is not a huge issue I guess.

Oh.

I thought your setup was like this
W23 connected natively through DVI-D
W20 connected VGA -> DVI (turns out I)
W20 connected VGA -> DP

And the two W20s were knocking each other out.

So it's actually the natively connected W23 and the adapater W20 fighting it out? That MUST be a limitation on active port types on the GPU. Something like Top Row only or Bottom Row only or having to make a choice between DVI-D and DP.

Edit: Missed that it's working now. Nevermind XD.

Yeah sorry, I should have been clearer. My mistake :) But it is fixed now so that is the main thing

Just restart to make sure it really is fixed XD.
My 1080 gives priority to HDMI over DP so every time I restarted it would switch main and side display around till I got fed up and disconnected the HDMI and started using DVI and DP together. Then it correctly remembers priority.
