Keyboard Nut Thread

I got to say my Pale Blues have ruined any other clicky switch for me. Jades "pale" in comparison.

As for tactile switches... I just can't deal with browns. The holy panda fakes that I have are very very pleasing to use and feel slightly better than my Halo Clears. I can't decide what I like more for gaming though.

Also my linear collection sis expanding with various versions of the yellows so that'll be interesting.

You prefer pale blues above box jades?

I'm linear gang - the smoothest possible actuation is my kink - so my first time trying a tactile, I attempted to lube it and immediately lost the bump lol.

I know it's heresy around these parts, but I use a K70 RapidFire (MX Speed Silver) at home for around 80% gaming and 20% work - and I love it, I don't feel the need to use any other switch.

All our tastes differ and what works for you doesn't work for someone else.

As you can see the tone is not confrontational but rather lighthearted with the people above exclaiming their switch gang is the best.

Nothing wrong with a K70 as far as exposed switch boards go.

I currently daily Kailh Speed Copper in my ErgoDox. The tactile bump is lovely. However, their springs ping like crazy! I don't experience the same on any of my ~4mm travel switches. Only this ~1.1mm travel. Not sure if it's even related.

Have some burnt copper box switches I've been meaning to try in my ergodox as well.

Soooo, I did my first custom board :D all parts imported from China / Japan

Case: Idobao ID80
Keycaps: TaiHao Sakura Michi
Switches: Novelkey x Kailh Cream (lubed)
Lube: Krytox 205g0 on stabs, 105g0 on switches
Stabilizers: Zuggear (Durock)

Excuse the shoddy iPhone mic audio, but wanted to give a bit of a typing test :)

Damn, the ID80 is fucking gorgeous. Makes me regret the GB I eventually went for lol. Nice one. :)

Thanks my man! Well it might make you feel better to know that the GMMK Pro was announced a week after I finished my build... :D

It's selling for an insanely good price for what it is. Worth checking out if you like this 75% form factor :)

@lil_syba Sick build! The Idobao ID80 is on my wishlist!!

Did you bring it in through aliexpress?

Omg, I'm so jealous
I actually brought it in through the official idobao website, because Aliexpress shipping is borderline extortionate these days.

I used Amazon for the stabs, kprepublic for the lube+switches, taihao official site for the caps and idobao official site for the case.

Biggest tip I can give is to avoid epacket / "standard delivery" at all costs! I'm sure you guys know this already. But Amazon shipping, DHL Express or FedEx are the only reliable ways of getting stuff here within 2 weeks. Usually runs you down about $20

Ooooh very nice!

Why the decision to use 105g0 on the switches and not 205g0? 205g0 would make those Kailh Creams so creamy you would cream every time you press a cream.

Honestly, the decision was based on the kprepublic website's recommendation, but I guess it's never too late to try some 205g0 in these puppies. Could be a nice Sunday project. Btw, do you know a good local place to source 205g0?

My comment was more meant in jest bud. No need to re-lube those switches, it's going to be a headache to get the old lube out anyway.

No local places stock any keyboard lube unfortunately. Sad noises. There were talks about using silicon oil as an alternative, but apparently that only lasts about 6months before reapplication is necessary.

Cherry MX Browns, at least the ones on my Shine 7, feel like someone stuck a membrane in the middle of my mechanical switch's travel.
That's a fair description. :ROFLMAO: I think the majority of the keyboard community is still trying to figure out what is up with these switches. The Kailh Coppers I daily in my ergodox definitely has a much quicker and more pronounced bump.

But, I won't lie. I enjoy my boards with browns. I game with my Ducky TKL, which has MX Browns. I still enjoy them. At the start they were a bit iffy, but after 2 years of nightly forum abuse and reddit rants they are much better. Or I am thoroughly acclimated. I've been tempted to solder in some fancier switches but every time I type on the board I can't help but grin.

I also need to spend some more time with the Otemu Browns in the RedDragon I bought. Initial impressions is that their bump takes a bit long to 'complete'. Starts about the middle of the stroke and then only ends way at the bottom.

Browns feel like your keyboard has been to the beach and didn't get all the sand out 🤢
Topre is dopre (yeah yeah I see you coming with your 'rubber domes')
