Keyboard Nut Thread

Has anyone had a successful delivery of an RK61 board from BangGood to Pretoria?
Thanks in Advance, I am very interested in this KB

... file down the contact pins... I might add a set of Gateron Yellows to the group buy and try filing them down? Thoughts?
I would try it on a couple of spare switches first. Filing down the Gateron pins is a nightmare as they have next to no structure. Using a dremel with a cutting disc is perhaps doable, but still a lot of effort.

I haven't had that board, but a variety of other odds and ends delivered

Yeah, I fiddled with an old mx blue last night. They bend quite easily.

I was thinking a dremel with a grinding disc, and then making small swoops along the thin part of the contact pin, starting from the tip and going toward the switch body. With the rotational direction going away from the switch body. Should give some control to the situation...

u/shredagain's response to my message gives me hope though;

"Legit, it's just barely filed at all. Like maybe a millimeter or two in total. I'll send a pic when I get a chance."

I've had success with other items, and many of friends in the automotive world order parts and accessories from BangGood on a daily basis. Most of the times it's a success.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Someone posted earlier this week that their order was delayed and eventually they got refunded iirc.

Which nuts on the keyboard is the thread about anyway? Mine only uses screws.

I can only assume then you aren't referring to mechanical nuts? So these then?

My sincerest condolences to your poor fingers internet friend. I pray that you may see the light.

Nut is open for interpretation. Fanatics? Jizz? Food? Whatever fits your narrative.

Why so serious?

I have my R500 mech kb with blues or browns or whatever they are and no issues gaming etc AFAIK. Would have to be nuts to spend as much as some of these keyboards end up costing that's for sure. What would I eat then? I'd have no more money for nuts.

The seriousness matched the magnitude of your transgression.

"... blues or browns or whatever they are ..." I think you came to the wrong neighbourhood....

Neighbrarude! Some things more important in life than little plastic clicky things 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦

I'm pretty sure they are browns, or black and brown whatever that means, I just know they are quieter than my K70 reds were and the TKL helps with my small desk situation. The LED backlights are blue though, hence the confusion. Someone explain to me why I would want to spend more than R500 on a keyboard if it does everything I need reliably?

Before I start,

Can you understand why someone would pay for a leather couch instead of a textile one? Or why someone would pay to have a suit perfectly tailored? Or why someone would pay for the optional extra to have their steering wheel factory wrapped in alcantara?

Of course, leather is easier to clean kids dirt off, the food, spit and that kind fun of stuff, probably, I'm not sure as the only leather seats I have are in the car, so I'll tell you when I buy a couch one day. For now our textile ones we were given are holding up to the kids bouncing on them, and they love them so much. Never needed a suit tailored, but I did have my suit pants shortened for my wedding, does that count, think it cost R100, and yes that was worth it. Never heard of alcantrarananaaaaa, I prefer the one I have complete with the chew marks and all the memories :) But I get your point, we're all nuts in this life that make up the great peanut butter of the universe. I'm curious though, let's 1v1 CS:GO to definitively prove your keyboard spend was worth it. knives only.

CS:Go needs a mouse too right? Let's type and see who's faster?

Why buy a fancy car when a cheap i10/Datsun Go will also get you to your destination?
Why buy an 8k TV when most people can't even tell the difference between 1080p and 4k?
Why buy a flagship phone when a budget phone does everything you need?
Why buy or cook fancy food when cheap food has the same nutritional value and tastes fine?
Why buy fancy headphones when the ones you got with your phone play all the same sounds and sound fine?
Why spend more to build a gaming PC when a console is much cheaper and fulfills most needs anyone could have for gaming?

Why buy a more expensive [literally any item you can think of] when a [cheap version of the same item] does the job?

I tried the less forward method to get the point to @rinners. Luckily he has thick skin.

All of the keyboards will get the job done for you Rinners. In fact, I think you paid too much for your keyboard. Should've bought a standard office keyboard for ~R100? Would've done the same for you. A zelios would be 100% lost on you. You don't appreciate the texture of things, and it seems like you won't spend money to improve it. So fortunately for you, Mech Keyboards won't be your thing. For us, it is a much larger curse than it is a blessing.

For ergonomics and longevity a lot of strong arguments can be made. For the rest, it's a hobby like any other. The different switches, keycaps, cases, boards, pcbs, group buys etc etc is fun for us. As simple as that, fun.

I'm on my keeb for about 10h a day, humans and our devices weren't designed for such high usage. To not recognise that potential harm you're causing your body by doing is a massive shortsight that most people will be paying for at some point.

Smh, qwerty and row staggered keebs. Such a shame that they're the standard - literally designed to slow people down.

Funny me too, must be a flaw with society in general, doesn't sound particularly healthy. But in the mean time while that fixes itself I use an Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop. Do they make ergo mech keyboards? Ones for around the R400 I picked this one up for 5 years ago?

I don't type in CS:GO, sorry that doesn't sound like fun.

TLDR, I'll tell you why below

Joh, Let's not make the keyboard thread our Friday thread.

Exactly, this is a great smack talk thread, thank goodness it wasn't in tech talk forum or I'd be banned :p Maybe, I still would like to try someone's R4k keyboard to see if it's worth it's weight in nuts, but I rather doubt it.

Happy Friday everyone.

TKL office keyboard? Now there's a oxymoron if I ever saw one.

Thanks for wasting our time. K bye.

I tried to source some Mill Max or Holtite locally today... Seems the Kailh sockets are still the best value at ~R2 a switch, I can't find anything cheaper and more user friendly.

If you want to use hotswap sockets in your handwire builds, take a look here:

So after 4 months, R300+ rand shipping charge, getting the order refunded after 70 days before it couldn't be found, the keyboard has finally arrived.

Although I shit you not, I had to listen to the craziest bitch at the post office rant about Covid not existing and new world order blah blah blah before I could get it

RK61 with Red Switches

The non standard corsair bottom row..... I know the feels.

How is the board man? Hard to find fault with a free keyboard. :D

Literally got it about 1 hour ago, so will give a try tonight.

My first 60% keyboard, but reckon I'll have to use both the RK and the corsair since I use numpad for work quite a bit.

Planning on moving the puddings to the RK since it will look a lot slicker!

Bringing over from the KBDFans GB thread.

Here's what I'm working with:

That's a Monstargear Ninja87 XD Arc Light and what I basically want to do here is ditch the shell in favour of something grey/black with a lower profile. It could be 3D-printed or built up from scratch with some light material, not sure what just yet.

Has anyone attempted something like this? How easy/difficult is it to DIY with no real experience?

OMG, that's soooo nice!

I'm currently designing a case for my mysterium builds. I'll let you know how the whole process turns out in the end.
