I want to purchase a new machine which means new GPU but i'm hearing alot of talk about waiting for the

RX 7800 XT

RX 7700 XT

So the launch should be in September but how long does it take to get to resellers here in SA? And what's your general thoughts on what you've seen so far on the cards?

We haven't really seen anything about the cards so it's hard to say. What resolution do you play at?

It'll likely come down to budget, but a 7800XT is probably around 4070/3080 performance I think.

I am going to take a shot here and say a bit higher. Maybe even 4070ti < ?

I would think as a bare minimum it will be quicker than 6900xt as well as 6950xt which itself is 3090 territory.

Could possibly be very close to or on par with 4070ti?

Depending on demand here in S.A we usually get stock before launch day and once embargo has lifted they will be available for purchase.

From previous analysis it does seem that more Nvidia cards are available than AMD from brands like Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS. However I'm pretty sure there will be more than enough XFX stock on launch day.

7900XT is 4070Ti performance so I'm taking a wild guess that the cheaper and slower card will be cheaper and slower.

Yup, and then AMD launched an RX 7900 GRE which is very similar in performance to the RX 6950 XT so this has limited the performance gap of where the RX 7800 XT can realistically slot in. All signs are pointing to RX 6900 XT performance (approx. 10% faster than the existing RX 6800 XT)

We should get some answers tomorrow at 12pm SAST as AMD is streaming an RDNA 3 announcement at Gamescom in Germany. We should get actual launch dates and prices so you can then decide from there.

My prediction is around $600 for the RX 7800 XT 16GB and around $500 for the RX 7700 XT 12GB which I'm hoping to be wrong about, as this wouldn't provide any real value over the existing RX 6000 series.

FSR 3 is also rumoured to be announced and still open source, so there's a good chance it will work on the the RX 6000 GPUs.

TLDR - The RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT are shaping up to be another meh launch with very little performance improvements over the previous gen, sticking with the 2023 GPU trend. The saving grace will be if AMD can price these cards really aggressively.

If they price them right, this could be a massive launch for them.

But they won't, so it won't. Which really sucks, marketshare is something they could use more of and a drop in price would likely see them move large numbers of units, especially considering the nVidia offerings and prices.

Saw a great quote in the HUB YouTube comments:

"AMD never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity"

I recently received all the SKU sheets and pricing.

My only comment is "sigh"
