GPU Buying power calmed down

Over last week or so I see GPU buying power has calmed down. Cards aren't being sold in seconds anymore..
Hopefully this means prices will normalise for a change.

Or people realising paying 300% msrp is not worth it 🤣

I mean it’s kinda obvious what’s happening. The market is running out of people with deep enough wallets and who are in need of GPUs. So many people have gotten priced out of the market, and the profitability of cards have tanked as of late.

A 3080 isn’t worth R36k no matter how you slice it. It’s just not R36k worth of performance. Perhaps if you’re a miner with a bunch of them digging up free money 24/7.

Just my two cents though.

Well, if you paid 30k for 3080s then you deserve all the pain that’s coming your way.

Eth gas fees are at an all time low because transactions are moving off-chain. Added to this, the next EIP will reduce miners rewards by over 30%. Once eth goes POS, there is no chance of any alt-coins being able to absorb the global hash rate. Difficulty will shoot up and profits will crash. An expensive GPU for mining is now a really silly proposition.

Heard a interview from Stanley Druckenmiller (one of the best investors in history) and he said one of the biggest threats facing the economy is China invading Taiwan after the Winter Olympics... Not sure how likely this is but could also effect the GPU situation in late 2021

@Oj0 your prices are decent compared to the other posts, no doubt your sales would be great.

My post is not referring to sales that will stop btw, just that the availability will rise and prices will drop.
As of this week average international prices dropped from avg 233% above MSRP to 191%. Some cards dropped with 45% - 65% on certain models.

Crypto buying power also declined, ROI dropped from 5 months in January/February to 12 months @ today market prices and mining rewards, excluding electricity costs and loans people made to rush into the crypto market. It has become less attractive for newby miners to buy up all the cards within seconds.


This is actually a good thing for Gamers to get their hands on decent cards for a reasonable price.
Not so good for miners when they try and sell their cards bought at 233% above MSRP.

"A" reseller (don't know who, due to POPIA and general customer confidentially I cannot find out who and don't particularly care ) contacted one of my suppliers and complained about the allocation I was given.

Yes, I did get cards from them - but not only them The quantities I gave are total across multiple vendors - Gigabyte, MSI and Palit. Eg none of the 3090s are from the supplier you contacted - they're MSI.
