Hi Carbies,

need some advice on where to buy some good copper speaker cable for my home theatre. Not the crazy audiophile stuff that "makes things clearer" (LOL) just great oxygen free copper wire at 2.5mm. Not the CCA stuff....

Oh maybe that's the express store, our builders is huge keeps almost everything lol

Builders carries sub std stuff that is marked up. i.e for the same price you can get better wire. Wire is wire at that cost level.

You did not specify your location.

There is no scientific basis to support Oxygen-Free cabling. Normal store-bought copper cable is 99.9% oxygen free as it stands since it's encased in a molded plastic encasement, and paying a 500% price premium for 99.99% (0.09% benefit) while your ears don't notice the difference is quite simply ludicrous. It's only really important in plasma deposition uses, or in a particle reactor - Not your sound system where you blare our music that your neighbours probably harbor deep resentment towards.

Spec the cable gauge according to the length of the cable run together with the expected current handling and voltage that the amplifier pushes out. Then go to Voltex and get the audio ripcord from them. Audio cable's plastic is less rigid, so the cable is easier to route. For reference, 0.5mm ripcord is good for up to 150W of power handling at around 5 meters. More than that, the impedance becomes an issue.

contact Toms Cape Town (the guitar place).

They have good copper at reasonable prices and they helped me out when I rewired the sound system in my old car.
