Hey Carbies! So, here's my problem:

The game doesn't launch. The splash screen comes for a few seconds, then it closes itself. No idea why. Been digging into it, seems to be a somewhat common issue but no one knows how to fix it, so now I'm stuck unable to play a game I paid for.

Drivers are up to date, Windows as well, and no sketchy software installed on my rig.

I did however look into the Event Viewer, and I came across something strange. I keep getting this warning:

It seems to be coming up whenever I try to open the game. Not seeing any other strange stuff. Anyone know what this could point to or how to fix it?

--Updates:

  • Tried this to change some DCOM permission setting, but that didn't work.

Playing through Xbox, I have GamePass Ultimate Until March 2025 I believe
Oh, it sounded like you'd paid directly for the game lol.

Anyway I thought I had this issue before and solved it but I can't find anything about it in my browser history. Will keep looking.

In the meantime have you tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and then also installing on a different drive?

My fibre isn't the fastest, so I've been avoiding the whole reinstall 😂😂 but I may have to try that tonight. I haven't tried installing on a different drive, I don't even know if it's possible to move around the current install?

I don't think there's a feature to move around an install, and the UWP apps make it difficult to manage the files.

Try the full reinstall when you have the stomach for it.

The only link I could find in my history was this:

And I am pretty sure reinstalling it on my C: drive was the solution. But it was a while ago so I'm not 100% certain.
